Different brands of corsets will be made differently and/or put their labels in differnt places. Is your corset shaped the same at the top and the bottom? Try turning the corset the other way and see if the fit is better or easier to put on. Even on the Laced brand, it can be worn "upside down" and it gives a different fit. Some women with large breast find that this works better for them as it provides a little more support.
I got a corset and, though I wear it with the inside tag at the top (under my bosom), the busk has a double closure at the top; that is, two clasp closures that are closer together than the rest which are equally spaced out. Is this right? This is my first corset, but I thought the double closure went on the bottom of the corset (near my hips) and not about my bosom. <3!
@ElMagAquaVing - Your age really doesn't matter. I sell corsets to girls as young as 8 and women as old as 94. in the Victorian era girls wore corsets at a very early age. Wearing one now would depend on how your Mom feels about it. Most of my younger customers are involved in Single Action Shooting or Mounted Shooting Competion and their families are supportive. Just be sure not to lace it too tightly!
@GoodNightMoon19511 Indeed they are! I'm fourteen now, but it really looks like my laced goal is approaching - I got my mom to somewhat-grudgingly agree that I could buy a corset(own money, of course) - now all I've got to do is find the right occasion to actually make the purchase, as I need her credit card... but hopefully I'll make it. But I'll stop talking about myself - I'm so impressed by you, making your own is so cool! Wish you the best of luck. Hope it turns out okay!
You did an excellent job of teaching. Now I am ready to do it myself instead of always hoping to find someone who was smart enough to do it for me ! Thank you!
I just bought some corsets after years of wanting them, but the task of putting them on, particularly myself was very daunting.
This was a fantastic tutorial. I got the concept after watching it once, and laced up my corsets with ease!
Just a question, though...Both my overbust corsets have the gap at the back. I'd like to somehow make one of those little flaps that covers the bare skin at the back. Any suggestions as to where I might be able to get info on how to do this?
I just bought a bunch of corsets that lace to the top and the ribbon is way too short to try doing the loops in the middle. I need to replace it, what type of ribbon and about whatr length should I use to replace them? Thanks for the video, i was going nuts trying to lace the thing thinking I was too big, but it was the ribbon.
Most anything can be worn over the corset, with the exception of skin-tight clothing. Because the corset pulls you in and smooths out the "lumps" your clothes should fit looser. You can even tuck the corset into your jeans or pants. Just experiment with your outfits to see the difference.
@ashleeeewinnie When wearing it under your clothes, you can tuck the strings into the back of the corset at one side, or poke the ends up under the bottom of the corset. You're right - you don't want a "tail" hanging out from your top!
I'm finding that the skin on my hands are becoming sore from pulling the laces. Am I grabbing them the wrong way or do my hands need to get a little tougher?
@bishonenrancher If you put the corset on & off often, then yes, you will notice that your hands will become sore. When I do this all day, putting corsets on my customers, I get "rope burns" to the point of my fingers cracking open and even bleeding. You should not experience anything this drastic, but your hands may toughen up a bit after may repetitions.
They can be worn under the clothing for shaping and support; but it is in fashion right now to wear them on top of your clothing. Go to the site listed to the right, next to the title of this video. If you go to the page, "gallerystyles" you will see a lot of different outfits and get some ideas on what you can try.
@JMysticStar7 I have a denim corset that I sometimes wear on the outside with a blouse with a decorative top, but during the day, at school I have to wear it under my shirts as the university considers it underwear and the male faculty find it distracting.
@0Valessa0 Maybe it would help you when you put the noose which she holds infront of the body on a door latch and step forward. so you have two hands free to close it more
Thank-you very much for your video, I have recently been considering getting a Corset, but weren't fully sure on how to go about tightening it properly.
I appreciate this toutorial alot, all the best! Xx
If you wear your corset consistently, you will see a difference. Never wear it so tight that you hurt yourself. But continual wear will reshape your waist and improve your posture. You will find yourself standing straight and keeping your shoulders back.
You can find several site that have corsets, just make sure that they have steel stays - not plastic. My website is listed above in the "about this video" section.
The reason for the gap in the back is to create a way to tighten the corset. If the two sides meet in the back, you cannot tighten the corset any further. At that point you have to buy a smaller corset in order to tighten more. As to the tag, I am sure that the tag is placed in other brand of corset in various locations. I made this video originally to help my customers - Laced customers. And in the Laced brand corsets, the tag is at the top.
heelo there i have been wearing corsets for years but do have to question the reason for having the gap at the back? i do tightlacing and my waist in now trained to fit into the smaller sizes but i dont see the need for the gap in the back? however i do think your video is helpful for others but with the tag being at the top like you mentioned this doesnt apply to vollers corsets they go to the bottom generall unless they are bespoke thanks xx
If you can re-do the laces, it will give you more flexibility on how you tie it. It is called bi-directional, meaning that you can pull the bottom tighter, leaving the top a little looser, or vice-versa. And yes, you might have had yours tied a little too tightly! I will be putting relacing directions on my website withing a few weeks if that helps you.
Mine ties at the bottom, very challenging to do alone and seems complex to re do to try having in middle. With mine if I fell I would be an upside down turtle, very hard t dive in, mine has metal bones-I call itthe "iron lung" maybe some folks tied it too tight on me?
The ones that tie at the bottom can work, but not as effectively as tying at the center. You can try to relace it to tie at the center. Your corset may have plastic stays rather than steel. If so, probably you will have the same effect whether it ties in the middle or the bottom.
mine doesnt open in the front at all, or tie in the middle of the back. it ties at the bottom. should i try to re do it with the ends in the middle? or does it matter...
Don't be afraid. The corset is tight, but it is not designed to hurt you in any way. It is actually very comfortable - like getting a good hug that lasts. In my corsets the stays are made of steel. Most of them are flexible steel, so after they warm up and mold to your body, the corset becomes more flexible. I feel protected when I am wearing mine. Try it!
Yes, I will ship internationally. The rates would be determined by how you want it shipped, First Class or Priority. The cost would vary from $13.00 to $27.00.
If worn correctly, corsets will damage you in any way, but rather help you. Yes, you don't want to pull the corset so tight in the chest that you cannot get a full breath. But the stomach area should be pulled tighter, where it gives great support on your back, forcing you into good posture.
corsets r very beautiful, and i want one sooooo bad but im still a teen and my mom doesent think that they're healthy and costly... and if i ever get one, should u pull it just enough so its tight-ish around the rib cage and ur able to take deep breath or is that too loose? and the for the stomic area is it laying close to it or really tucking it in? @.@
i like how corsets look like <3 they have this victorian touch which i'm totally in love with^^ but u shouldn lace it too tight... its unhealthy :( but i like them anyway<3
You should never lace them so tight that you damage your organs or that you can't breathe. You want them just tight enough to give you wonderful back support, posture and to pull in your waist a bit.
yes of course but some lace them a bit too tight... because its unhealthy if ur chest part is laced too tightly^^ some poeple dont know thats what i wanted to say^^ i do know :P
bad thing is, that corsets are very expensive most of the time :(((
hey, I love corsets and your video is great. The corset that I have is not one that ties in the middle, but I like the ones that do tie in the middle better.-Is there anyway to re-lace the corset in a bidirectional way??
Wow, thanks very much for sharing this - I always wondered how on earth to do it alone. I kinda figured it worked the way you were explaining it but it never seemed to work when I tried it (I think I know what I was doing wrong now *heh*). Actually seeing it done definitely helped - I'm sure next time I try it I'll succeed thanks to this. :)
Yes, your ribcage will compress a little bit, but you just adjust the lacing to fit your ribs. Do not pull it so tight at the top & tighter at the waist and hips. You will be surprised how your figure changes!
The distance between the lacing will vary with each body. Due to the anatomy of women, the corset is typically wider apart at the top, narrowing at the waist, then wider again at the bottom. It repeats the "hour glass" shape. Women whom are very thin with few curves will have a more even lacing. And men will be very even from top to bottom.
if the corset has been properly tailored to your body it will be able to fit with even space between the sides all the way down. it will also stay even as you continue to slowly work it closed.
however, if it's a poorly tailored or off the rack variety, it will not be even.
How much would shipping one of your corsets to the UK be? I had a look at your site, and I'm quite liking what you have there.
Also, is shipping per corset? What if I order more then one, or (more likely), order a skirt or a top as well- how would the sipping charge alter there?
ive just ordered a custom one and now i'll know what to do with it! thank you sooo much, very well done. yours is very pretty with those roses - it matches your skirt nicely. i guess it's best to wear something under the corset?
Wearing something under the corset. . Although mine are designed to be worn on the outside as a fashion piece, I have many customers that wear them under clothing for support and shaping. It's a good idea to wear a thin cami or tank under the corset to avoid getting soil or lotion on the material. Wearing a bra is your call - depends on the look you want. If you are wearing the corset as lingerie, wear whatever you want!!! I have more tips &tricks on my website.
I don't know of retail stores in your area, but you can order one online. For authentic corsets there are many websites, including mine! U can buy "faux" corsets in local stores (ones w/plastic boning)

ive just ordered a custom one and now i'll know what to do with it! thank you sooo much, very well done. yours is very pretty with those roses - it matches your skirt nicely. i guess it's best to wear something under the corset?

Wearing something under the corset. . Although mine are designed to be worn on the outside as a fashion piece, I have many customers that wear them under clothing for support and shaping. It's a good idea to wear a thin cami or tank under the corset to avoid getting soil or lotion on the material. Wearing a bra is your call - depends on the look you want. If you are wearing the corset as lingerie, wear whatever you want!!! I have more tips &tricks on my website.

Where can I get a corset in New Jersey!

I don't know of retail stores in your area, but you can order one online. For authentic corsets there are many websites, including mine! U can buy "faux" corsets in local stores (ones w/plastic boning)

You're welcome. Corsets are not that difficult to wear - movies have just made them seem so dramatic and difficult.
