Hi Mark- I'm just an average Joe and fan of strongman, but this event is one where I have a couple tips:
1: The arm holding the bell should explode upwards at the same time as the whole body moves downwards: it doesn't work to push up only when the rest of the body is coming back up from the dip. It's all about making it easy to lock out the elbow and then pushing up the last bit as a light standing motion.
2: Try to keep the arms and upper body aligned: capital T all the way.
I saw a vid earlier today wit ha bunch of guys doing this and my mind can not understand how a human can lift such a huge amount of weight like this as if its nothing
hope this helps Im a trainer in San Diego and love this movement. here are two things I can see right away, easiest to correct first-
1. with your right side your elbow is flaring out too far from your torso- looks like your going try a tricep exercise , You can see it clearly @ 1 :40. If you look at your successful attempts on the left side (:42) you can see your elbow underneath the weight.
2. Hard to show on here but torso needs to drop fast like rep #2, when db is at hi point drop quickly
thanks for all the tips & critque guys, from here & twitter & facebook, finally found a balance that works for me, in time for giants live ukraine this weekend.
One thing I notice is how you don't incorporate much of your core in the exercise, leaving maximum stress on the arm. Although I practise with much lighter weights, proportionally for my size it still feels beastly haha but a great trick I learned with the press is to try and get as much of your torso and hips dead underneath the weight on the snatch, very much alike how mikhail koklyaev uses his olympic technique for the barbells.
I have serious respect for you man as thats such an immense weight you're trying to throw up, but they key is definitely in stepping into and under the weight with your body rather than solely using your arm to centre it over your head. Check out poundstone's 200lbs his username is knelly19 presses here you can see after a few reps he leans his torso over to help the arm extension snap. It looks such a tiny slant of movement here but you'll feel it! Let us know what you think!!!

Can't give you critique because I've never lifted a circus dumbbell myself. 0:45 looks like the most solid lift though. Good luck at in Ukraine.

What if you mark the dumbbell handle with paint or something so you know where the best spot to hold it is...

Best of luck Mark. I have trouble using both sides for DB pressin. I am lazy and only like to use my dominant side.
