psssh, the firemen did all the work. I wonder if he'll share the pay with them. Also, if you ever want the fire dept. to trim your tree, just get stuck in it haha
@TheDARJAMRAN when a palm hasnt been trimmed in a long time, there could could be 20 feet or more of old fronds.. if they were to sluff off all at the same time while a climber is ascending the trunk with a harness and flip line , the wieght of all the fronds will crush the climber, pinching him between his harness and the tree, with so much pressure he wouldnt be able to undo his flip line, thus trapping him,, scary stuff
I don't have palms in my region but that skirt can slide and tear your guts out...I can only look at afew of these mishap tree vids..cuz I know the show and the chance we take every time we go out
Nasty, not sure how he got under the skirt when the trunk appeared trimmed further up. The teeth on the petioles are vicious and draw blood every time I trim mine, but don't have to use a ladder... yet. though.
i read the discription buteven if some of the fronds fell on him how did he get stuck are the fronds heavy or what wher i live ther arnt palms so i dont know.
These palms that have never been trimmed or not trimmed in 10-15 yrs. should never be climbed. State cities are now requiring a license and insurance from a contractor to performs these duties. Only hire licensed contractors who have bucket trucks and insurance so you dont have some dumb dead guy to remember hanging in your palm. Be safe tree workers and think... How much do you figure he made on this job? How much did he almost lose?
@edjiew6 somebody had to hire the bucket truck owners before they had bucket trucks, or they wouldn't have made money to buy a bucket truck. What happens when the tree is not accessible by bucket truck, do you still hire contractors that have a bucket truck?
I've participated in a rescue similar to this. I was under the trapped tree trimmer and we were able to pull the branches (fronds) off one or two at a time until the remainder fell off the tree. The fronds are practically woven together but not attached to the tree. They dislodge and slide down, trapping the trimmer. Even with a running chainsaw this man was unable to cut himself out. I'm interested in others professional expertise and advice on these dangerous rescues.
No palms here in Western Pennsylvania. Looked like the climber and firefighter were under alot of stress and discomfort. I guess it would of been good to have a climbing line attached atop the fronds if possible??
So, what happens with these palm trees is that sometimes when you have a lot of old dead fronds. When they dry out there isn't much adhering them to the tree any longer. The climber pulls some of the bottom ones off, and the rest can give way. He has flip line around the tree to his harness and spikes in the tree. They all pile up on his face and chest, pushing him backwards and sometimes breaking his back.
Aside from the obvious does anyone know if the climber was okay?I do alot of palms and yes even while cleaning i spike them i ain't trusting fronds with my life.

Wow that is amazing. That is one lucky guy. I sure hope he thanked the firefighter who supported him the whole time. He probably doesn't realize what the firefighter went through.

I would say you definitely have a one of a kind rescue video. Not because it was in a tree, but what happened in it. Two thumbs up and five stars!

Now that is original content! I've never scene a high angle rescue like that. I didn't know palm trees were so dangerous.
