Wow ik dacht dat ik al zo'n beetje al je opnames had gezien, maar het zijn er nog zoveel xD Ik denk dat ik morgenavond maar ff terugkom ;) Bedankt voor al de hulp al deze avond :)
I've played that song probably a hundred times and NEVER used that finger position on the sig riff. I play it down the neck utilizing more open strings. Good job overall tho.
I APPRECIATE YOUR CLIP VERY REWARDING FOR MY PRACTICE. STOP AND YOU SULLPY TABS .? EMAIL ME PLEASE JOHN . I really would like to play this song exactly like you...many thanks
Just curious. I have taught myself to play this using alot more open strings. It does not strain my hand as much. Why do most bassist seem to not play with the open strings that much?
The reason behind this is that it gives you more control over the note you are playing. That's something i've learned over the past eight years of playing bass
You want to try to avoid playing open strings because you will notice it doesn't have as smooth as a sound, rather than holding the 5 fret (with exception to the E string, where it's always going to be open). Open notes tend to have more of a metallic note and it's a bit harder to control the note, like when you have to stop it. Also, it makes it much easier to go up and down the neck since you're just basically playing the same pattern of notes, just at a different location. BTW awesome cover!
Easier to mute them. Just take your hand off the (5th) fret and it stops vibrating.
Most people also like playing up the fretboard because the frets are closer together, allowing faster playing and you don't have to stretch you fingers as much
Thanks everyone for the comments. As I move forward in my learning of the bass, I really need to stop working with the open strings. Everything you guys have told me makes sense about muting and all. I have developed some techniques to mute the open strings and still play fluidly, but I am concerned that I am taking on some bad habits.
Man, one of the best on youtube, can't stop watching your videos.
