Whenever my sister and I get into a bad fight in front of our father, my dad always says "Staff Sergeant Barnes(her) Sergeant Elias(me) you will stand down!" she doesn't really get it and becomes annoyed by the reference, I fuckin laugh and salute him everytime.
I don't buy Barnes shooting Elias. Even though they hated each other, Barnes would've wanted to survive as much as anyone...I don't think he would've wasted a soldier as good as Elias
He should have gotten an award if he didn't. He played his character very well. I remember watching this and understanding what it must have been like for my Dad and Uncles. I remember crying really hard. It was that real.........
@MarcoSnow88 Actually I wasn't referring to the song being German. I was talking about the clips from the film were in German. At least I thought they were the first time I watched it. I can't remember. I was really high. :)
Sergeant Elias has always been my favorite character in this movie. Its men that are like him IRL who really make you appreciate what it is that true soldiers go through, both on and off the battlefield.
Elias knew that there was a possibility that he would be killed, just like everyone else, but deep down he believed like every other soldier that goes to war that he would make it. When his time came..., I think that he could'nt really believe it, and stuggled to his very last breath to live...he wanted so desperately to live, but felt death overcoming his entire body and he fought with all his might to keep the darkness of death from enshrouding him. His gesture "why now..why this way?"
yeah, the good thing about this movie is that there are 2 supernatural beings (hypothetically), Sgt. Ellias-the angel and sgt.barnes-the demon. Using this theory its good to know that elias would still be in heaven.
P.S. Thats why i like the credits, showing footage of all the soldiers in their best times in Vietnam
possible but that would be out of character for him. In my opinion Elias was given or had in him a last bit of effort to show to people on the choppers that he was alive. and i think he might have been asking God why, because he did not deserve it. there are many possibilities
Yeah, this is hitman's score. Adagio for Strings fits this scene and the movie. Actually Adagio for Strings fits any war movie if you ask me. Sgt. Elias in some ways is similar to Jim Caviezel's character in The thin Redline. Both men were initially idealist and crusaders. And in the end both were killed, while the realist and the hard of heart continued their way, if not for Pvt. Taylor that gave Barnes what he deserved.
Ave Maria does actually match to this scene, because it is as sad and dramatic as the original score (which I do like too). Problem is that most of the people associate the music with the Hitman Game. In that way, it doesn't work out. But thats only my opinion.
It 's make me cry...I love Elias.

Is it possible he was gesturing to the helicopter? Sort of telling them don't leave me here, as if reaching for it would some way bring it back.

I think what he was getting at was that this song/score was created before hitman was created.

music is good, but not for this scene, the adagio for strings is good for it
t66wood 3 years ago 2
Actually, the music is "Ellens dritter Gesang."
The difference: one is sung in Latin and is of the Catholic prayer (Ave Maria, or "Hail Mary")
This version is the original and is sung in German and is based on the poem "The Lady of the Lake."
