  • Well Done !

  • Lovely! Thanks for sharing this.

  • Aia Gil Galad, heru ancalima !

  • so i was palying around a bit with this melody and played my little arrangement for my piano teacher. she wasnt expecting the flat five and cringed. she didn't believe it was acutally written like that so i had to find this video and play it for her. =)

  • The BBC radio series from the 1980s will allways be my favourite LOTR adaptation in the world <3. This song is up in my top 5 from the series to and I quite like your video. good job.

  • i don't think this song was in the movies and personally i saw no need for some of the songs in the book to be sung in movie form luv the vid tho

  • DerKaiser92 i love this song, it makes me cry. Please make more lord of the rings songs. You got a new subscriber because of this video. I reccomended it to all my freinds. It is so beautiful thank you so much i watch this every day. I love this. I also would like to know where the scene from 0:39 is. This is my favorite video on youtube even over smosh.

  • @theeyeforgames The scene comes from the Mirror of Galadriel :)

  • Totally wonderful! I should have known it was u or a sis. :) Great vid!

  • i thought gil-galad was dead i so confused ????

  • @TheKagash He is... He died a long time before the events in Lord of The Rings. He and Elendil were the ones who formed the last alliance. They both died in the battle against Sauron.

  • I remember listening to this when I was a kid (far before all of the movies etc), fantastic

  • Gil-Galad was the father of Elrond given the ring called "vilya" by Sauron, one of the only three granted to the elves. You can see him for about two seconds in a scene of him killing an orc at the start of the fellowship movie. He formed the last alliance between elves and men, befriending Elendil and forever cementing the bonds of fellowship between said races. He died alongside Elendil in the the Battle of Dagorlad, falling victim to Sauron and passing his ring to Elrond.

  • @captainhunter123 i'm not some know it all smarmy git, but the father of Elrond and Elros was Earendil the mariner. Gil-Galad entrusted Vilya to Elrond. The rest of what you write is spot on :) it's great to see someone interested in Tolkien to this extend, it's nice to see. I love this, it's from the bbc radio play sung by Bill Nighy, but you might know that.

  • @lamlyn Your correct, my bad, i prefer Gondorian lore to elvish to be honest

  • Aglar Aran!!

  • beautiful, i always loved this song

  • almost sounds a bit like peter gabriel.

  • Doesn't sound like the Bill Nighy of today.

  • @KapernicusI I know, it's hard to believe. Then again, it was 30 years ago next year. He would have been about 30.

  • Nice job

  • This is so good. The Song of Gil-Galad is one of my favourites from LotR.

  • wasn't Bill Nighy Davy Jones in PotC?

  • It's been a long time since I heard this

  • who's Gil-Galad? i cant think of a Gil-Galad...

  • @f4llenSk4ter gil-galad is an elven king who lived in the second age and died at a great battle (it might have been the battle from the beginning of the first movie by peter jackson) the song is about him and he died in mordor or something

  • Very nice, but I'm a little confused at the sheer number of shots of Sam in this. I get that they spliced random scenes from the ext versions of the movies, but Sam seemed to be the only character to get a chameo (with the exception of shots with both Frodo and Sam).

    Hmm, either way beautifully done.

  • @Bellsify the voice singing is Bill Nighy as Sam from the BBC Audio Drama. So he's featured because originally his character (most of them actually) recited a lot of song and poems.

  • 0:28 can someone please tell me where is that scene from p.s. nice vid :D

  • i do believe its from the battle at mount doom where isildur cuts the ring off sauron's hand

  • If you're referring to the shot of Gil-Galad, then yes. It's the prologue battle, right before King Elendil holds up his sword and before Sauron appears.

  • @XDEICHINA from the fellowship of the rings... in the prologue

  • It's from the first scene of the Fellowship of the Ring, during the first battle. Gil-Galad appears for like one second only :)

  • @XDEICHINA beggining of the fellowship

  • Could use some music... But still awesome...

  • lovely!

  • i listened to the bbc version pretty much every night for 5 years to the point that when i bought it agian 6 years later i still remember most of the words but i did not have any idea it was Bill nighy untill i was reading the hot fuzz trivia on IMDB.....brill book, radio play and film

  • This version is superior to the other ones like Anois and Tolkien Ensemble.

  • The BBC dramatization was really good! I loved the voice actors.

  • can't stop listening it:D it is so cool:D

  • Awesome !

This song teleported me to the Middle Age.

    I Love it .

  • Thank god I found this song on here! I started singing it in the kitchen earlier and had to hear it :) Thanks for posting x

  • wow is a good song, i like it.

  • :) loved this

  • Gil-galad was an Elven-king. Of him the harpers sadly sing: the last whose realm was fair and free between the Mountains and the Sea. His sword was long, his lance was keen, his shining helm afar was seen; the countless stars of heaven's field were mirrored in his silver shield. But long ago, he rode away, and where he dwelleth none can say; for into darkness fell his star in Mordor where the shadows are. Hail the Mighty Tolkien...Hail!!
  • @erydiam wonderful!! :D!

  • @erydiam i agree Hai the mighty tolkien, i love lotr my favorite series to read, watch, and music

  • Oh. So manly voice. I like that<3

  • who's singing? nice voice

  • It's Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin)...

  • It's Samwise Gamgee but it's not Sean Astin it's Bill Nighy. BBC radio dramatisation.

  • at 29 sec in to the video! where did you get that clip from?! becuase istn it Mark Ferguson?!

  • It's Gil-Galad in the prologue battle in Fellowship of the Ring. No idea who the actor is.

  • yeah i know that gil-galad was played by Mark Ferguson, and it is Gil-galad in your video. but in the real movie it was elround. so i just wondering where you found that clip?!

  • It's right before King Elendil raises his sword in the air before Sauron steps out.

  • okey weird! any way thanks for the answer, love you other videos, mister bilbo baggins, ringwraits and uruk hai!

  • No problem and thanks! :)

  • @Jedihunter226 it's in the extended version of the film

  • @Jedihunter226 when Galadriel says... "Victory was near" the next sound you hear is Gil Galad finishing an orc... and you see him with his lance and the orc in the floor... awesome isn't?

  • Good work!

  • cute song

  • Great song. I am looking for an older version of this song. I am not sure but i thinks is from an audio dramatization in the sixties with the BBC. can anyone help me?

  • its so short :(

  • this song.. is awesome

  • Holy Crap!!!It's Bill Nighy!!! I heard him sing twice...but not like this!!!I think im gonna faint!!!

  • OMG, where has this song been until now??

    Fav it

    I couldn't find the 10 * so 5* must be enough

  • A true tribute to the greatness of the elves.. long live elrond

  • Is this relly seriosly Sean Bean singing this?

  • No, it's Bill Nighy, the voice of Sam in the audio dramatization. And btw, Sean Bean is Boromir in the movies; Sean Astin played Sam. ;)

  • opps right you are thanxs for the corection.

  • Comment removed

  • No, Sam in the BBC dramatization. Try reading the description. ;)

  • I did. lol I don't know what that was though. I thought it might have been like a special edition of the movie or something. hehe My bad.

  • The BBC is a broadcasting service in England that sometimes does dramatisations. Often very well. They did this one many years ago- Ian Holm (Bilbo in the films) was Frodo in this

  • Awesome!!!!!!

  • Love the radio version, gotta go listen to it again.

  • I love this! Thanks.

  • Wow, you really can believe it's Sam himself. Thanks for loading up.

  • this is just great i have seen much versions but this is relly the best

  • I haven't watched this in a while, so I just watched it again. I was shocked that I hadn't favorited it yet.

  • I have just finished listening to LOTR for the umteenth time. I still cry at this song and Bilbos at the end. Thanks for sharing

  • "But long ago he rode away..." is absolutely beautiful.

  • Thank you so much. =') That made my day!

  • where is that first part? were sam stands up

  • In Lothlorien, when he's talking about Gandalf's fireworks.

  • The extended edition, first film.

  • This is by far my favourite recording of the song, it's sung really well and is the only version that properly captures the sombre tone of the song and the tales sense of loss. The whole BBC dramatization is exellent, much better than the movies in my humble opinion.

    Thanks for uploading this :)

  • I agree,

The BBC dramatization is the best.

  • Wonderful!! Sam's clips were beautifully arrayed and edited; his expressions gave the feeling of the song!

I'm really impressed how you found footage to match this beautiful song, considering Gil-Galad had 4 seconds of screen-time in the Prologue.

0:38 was fantastic, with the nimbus of the stars turning into the mirror! :D I also love "but long ago, he rode away"; it so bittersweet. 5 stars and fav'd!!

  • This is great! Awesome I love your editing and style! :D My favorite parts were when Gil-Galad rode away and the end "in Mordor where the shadows are."

Wow, I don't even remember seeing Gil-Galad in the movie! Thanks!

  • Wow, I love this. This is a good song, especially when he sings low and the music starts, faintly. All the clips matched just right.

I even have a feeling of honor and respect to this elven king. (I like videos that tell stories very much!) ***** and soooo fav'd

  • Really well done!! Applause!! I want to listen to the LOTR audio book now:)

  • Sweet, first comment and rating and 3rd view :) Really good job on this and I really like how all the clips fit in perfectly with the song.
