Land Exploit is a DoS attack in which a program sends a TCP SYN packet where the target and source addresses are the same and port numbers are the same.

When an attacker wants to attack a machine using the land exploit, he sends a packet in which the source/destination ports are the same.

When you get blacklisted more than likely you can visit the site. You just can't login via ssh etc. More than likely that nmap did blacklist him though lol.

The server could have just as easily blacklisted his ip from accessing the website from to many packets being thrown at it.

Arbitrary Denial of Service attacks are not that easy...

You want some insight? Well, here it is. You do not know if he really took the site down simply because of this.

1. He created the website himself

2. You don't know what the script contains

Therefore, he could have had the script just shut down the site (normally as it would) or he could've just turned off his internet.

Getting attacked this way is unpleasant, but insn't deadly, well, it's not if you know how to protect your system. An admin at work decided to show me how unsuitable windows is for server purpoces (i used windows xp sp2 back then) and crashed the entire machine just by targeting port 80. after i transferred to ubuntu, i got the same problem, but the solution was simple: enable "syn_cookies" in /etc/sysctl.conf and sudo sysctl -p to restart sysctl.this helps for a low number of attacks,but many..

And anyway, its their responsiblity to make
