What I like best about Jeff is what many people don't get. He is a true musician. He's continued to grow throughout the years where most guitarists rest on their laurels. It's always fun to watch his hands because it doesn't look like he's playing what you're hearing. He doesn't get near the respect he deserves.

Beck is Beck. There is only one, and every time I have ever heard him play, I get the distinct impression that he has virtually no limits. Not in the sense that he may have trouble playing in this or that style, but in the sense that any idea that he has he can transform into that amazing attacking playing that ALWAYS commands you to be hanging on the edge of your seat to hear what's coming next. Try as I may, I am never ready for his next idea. He always take me by surprise.

Okay, why are Slash and Clapton regarded so highly as non-shredding, "feeling" players when Beck is clearly so much better on levels of melody and technicality. It seems so many of us get caught up in the exciting images of players who lead high-profile exciting lives like Clapton and Slash, and seem to attach how good a player is with how famous he is. Beck is is clearly a better player than either of them, but since he got less exposure, people dont realize how much better he is.

I really don't know how else to describe it either. I am about the same age as Jeff Beck, and listening to the story of his playing through the many years and changes he has undergone is amazing. There is not one single period of time when his command of the guitar didn't shine through.
