It's not that they got old, it's that they abused themselves so badly. Chuck isn't fat, he's morbidly obese, and he's lost his old energy and voice. Kim fucked herself up so badly with booze, drugs, smokes, it effected her voice and personality.

Do you know how much energy it requires ? No you don't, you have no idea. He's much stronger and has more charisma than a lot of thin people. Actually Nirvana was formed when Pixies was starting (circa 1987). It was an influence on its later works. Go check Nirvana's first album to see how different than Pixies they were at the begining. The whole Pixies influence issue was more a "Nevermind" thing...
