I would agree with you but! Sadly, Cliff only made 3 albums and were amazing but he didn't get to show his talent entirely. And Rob only has one album with Metallica so far, so we still have time to see his potential :) but yeah, Jay was/is a genius :)

the effect is wah with volume swells, i'm not a big expert on wah pedals but i think there are some that do the wah effect and control the volume.

i really have no idea what a bass feels but is anesthesia really that hard? im not saying it sounds easy but many people can play the hardest metallica songs on the guitar. i would think jason newstead and trujillo would be good enough to play that song. unless anesthesia was an impossible song that only Clifford Burton was good enough to play i dont see why they cant play it. or is it just because it anesthesia uses a different style of playing like slap or whatever.

just not his style. jason has a different feel to his style than cliff or Rob, who are more in common with each other. cliff was a music theory kinda guy. cliff is a better fit sure, for the style of music they were playing back than. now rob is the better fit. its not that one is better, they are just different. hell dave may be better or worse than kirk, if he stayed in the band, but its just different.

The reason why none of them plays that solo was because it was Cliffs signature solo. It didnt oficially have any connections with Metallica and therfore was something that both of the suceeding bass players Jason and Rob wouldnt have any relationship to.

i think if you play bass with a plectrum it's not that hard to learn (if you play already guitar). I mean, i play also guitar and i learned this bass line on my guitar and tried it once on a bass and it was not that hard to play. It's a different feeling. I think its really difficult to play with your fingers, as Cliff did. I also want to buy a bass now :)
