@phanders88 It is loud, but not louder than my wind trainer and I think the ride characteristics are well worth the trade off. Is it too loud for apartments? If vacuuming is allowed in your building, then you should be fine with two of these running in your place. My dog has fallen asleep next to the fan, so It's not unbearable.
@JoelITGM and @sawink you can get it configured with it's own Shimano/SRAM compatible 12/25 10-speed cassette, so you just drop out your rear wheel and link the back of your bike directly into the trainer. If you think removing your back wheel is too difficult or annoying, think about how many tires you'll save from the wear and tear of normal roller trainers. Small price to may, I think. And the experience is just completely different – Orders of magnitude better than other trainers.
It's a good idea and I guess...I'm in favor of supporting Lemond but...there are a few flaws. (forgetting about the fact that, YOU have a Mountain Bike attached to this for some reason!!!!). I'm not taking my back wheel and cassette off every damn time I want to train on this. Unless you buy 2 identical bikes and one for road and one for this, it gets too involved which turns most people off. Good try though. Just buy a trainer back wheel and tire. I get that it's a better concept
@sawink this is the first of seen of this trainer so i dont really have an opinion on it either way, but you know you could just buy a cassette that stays with the trainer. that solves that problem.
@megacanam For me, the versatility of this thing has got me interested... Road/Mountain 26/Mountain 29 all could be used on this trainer. And I bet that the noise is equal or slightly better than my mountain bikes on my aluminum rollers.
