I think that I can now appreciate the fact that acid-base reactions aren't especially intuitive; this trick is very much not intuitive. what would happen if you had a beaker of this indicator dye type stuff and then you had near it a charged rod, would it change colors in some parts of the glass?

At my university(Eindhoven University of Technology) they showed us also a clockreaction, but that one changed constantly from black to colorless and back again. The reactioen went over and over between the two substances, it went on for fifteen minutes. It was really amazing to see personally!
