i had a fist fight with bill oddie over a girl in a bar in ely 1981. he was a pretty hard guy but i managed to get the better of him by breaking a bar stool over his back. he didnt get up after that. he was with this right flirty bird and when i got talking to her he got all shitty about it. he was giving me the daggers for an hour or so then came up and was all like "outside" and when he turned to the door i got him with the stool. i managed to knock him clean out. it made the papers.

Check out his songs "Ironing my goldfish", "The knitting song", "The funky gibbon" and all his fantastic work in "The Goodies". I later years, he is mostly known as ornithologist, but for me he is primarily a comedian.

Ah great to see marks talent again hes wonderfull to listen to on his own hes fantastic, he occasionally showed what hes really capable of but this is just pure wonderfull. Didn't understand what? Are you sure? Put things in perspective: Bill Oddie had pop hits on the charts before Mark did. He is songwriter, trummer and saxophonist, and a great singer as well (at least he was in the 70's).

Bill Oddie is just as much a living legend. At least he should be, primarily as a comedian. His parodies of various music styles are wonderful.

Anyway, "Money for nothing" peaked at 4th place at the british chart. So did "The funky gibbon" 10 years earlier. Dire Straits sold more records and the number of hits is bigger. Bill still had hits and sold many records. He had several hits - six in 1975 alone! Unknown in the US, didn't sell anything there. Biggest in UK and Australia.

I saw this whole programme when it was televised, quite frankly if Jimi had been resurected Bill Oddie wouldnt have taken his advice. He sacked his guitar tutor on the misconception that she wasnt any use to him.He went ahead and did his own thing,gyrating and posing like some guitar hero.The final outcome was he produced a track that any beginner would be ashamed of but I suppose his ego told him it was gr8.
