  • I saw these guys once, they were great. After one song, someone in the crowd, also blown away by the set, screamed out,"God damn!",Micheal very meekly approached the mic and in a child like whisper,"Please don't use our Lords name in vain".Everyone looked at the person standing next to them, confused, uneasy.I think one person laughed.

  • He's played in about a million other groups, most of which have videos on here and now he's a DJ

  • JET FIGHTER MANNN IS WHAT I AMMM!!!!!!!

  • I am sexually aroused.

  • RIght on! Saw them in Boston @ Storyland probably this same year. They covered the Byrds' Feel a Whole Lot Better. Striped pants, Beatle boots, mod hair, great band, really rocked out!

  • I loved Mike...what became of him?

  • I have the vinyl of their album when they were called Salvation Army. Great band.

  • this is like a retro imitation of 80's music except it's the real thing.

    great stuff.

    I'm sorry I missed it.

  • @CRAPCANNONS Even better, it was an 80's retro imitation of 60's music.

  • is it just me or is this the greatest pop song ever? i love the teaser chorus harmony!

  • @apt0984 It's not just you. Even as a snotty little 14 year old hardcore punker I could not resist this song, I used to sneak into my older sister's room and listen to this EP when she was gone. It was my secret shame!

  • @Druffmaul Hahaha! That's funny! I used to do the exact same thing with MY sister's Material Issue tape (which oddly enough... the two bands have striking similarities).

  • i wish it was 1966 all over again!!!

  • 1:57 - wearing the same boots and skinny jeans right now.

  • @zoltar5282 Wow, how new

  • Sounds like The Byrds, teleported into the 80s.

  • I loved The Three O'Clock. Michael was my hero. If you can find it, give a listen to The Salvation Army - even BETTER than THIS!

  • Does anyone know where I can get neo-Edwardian clothes like that??

  • Salvation Army !

  • I see this band has a thin leg policy

  • I loved this band in the mid-80s. I dragged my friend to see them open for REM and it took me a while to convince him the lead singer wasn't a chick. lol

  • LA had a lot of great bands in the early 80s. This was one of them.

  • PLEASE OH PLEASE post: Look into our eyes!!!

  • Gotta dig those clothes, man!

  • double retro...hahaaa

  • Luv it. Would a vid-savvy soul upload some more Salvation Army stuff, especially While We Were in Your room Talking to Your Wall??? Pause it at 1:57 -- that's an album cover!

Hey Anton, nice bumpin' into ya here! Thanks for the Fillmore!!! Yes, five exclamation points.

  • i was a teen when this came out--loved all the paisley underground bands.

  • @earinsound

    same here. Still love em!

  • Early 80's neo-psych

  • I'm so glad I wasn't polluted with shitty bands like Pearl Jam or whatever. I graduated high school in 2000 and I listed to fantastic music like this, the Beat, the Nerves, 20/20, the Plimsouls, the Smithereens while all my friends listened to Pearl Jam and the Ice Cold Chlli Peppers. Power pop is the greatest.

  • Beyond the beat - where did you get this??? love it!

  • LOVE!

  • Sorely underrated, and robbed of their chance to dominate pop, in favor of the Bangles, et al. unfortunately. I will remember and cherish them always.

  • we love you forever.

  • I remember seeing this back back back deep in my past, it was the first moment I'd ever seen the Three O'Clock and thought "Well who is this!?" Ended up the most giant fan. This video is brilliant, if not only for the closeup of Quercio's boots. Thanks for posting!

  • Good lord, where the hell did this come from? The first 'live' footage I've ever seen of them, and I've been a fan since the way back when.

  • This waws simply wonderful. Never would have guessed something this obscure would be on YouTube. Never saw the vid ever. The only reason I knew of them is that they had an album of the year back in 83/84 on the college radio I listened to so I bought it. Blew me out of the water.

  • Michael Quercio I haven't seen you in 30 years!!!

  • Michael you signed both albums for me when i was 14....thanks to Hope & Wanda.

  • Jet fighter was on here it has been removed!! CIRCLE CITY alumni !

  • Good Lord, how far ahead of the curve were these guys? There are so many bands who are now trying to emulate what these guys had a grasp on, what? 20 years ago? Fantastic!

  • i had such a crush on Greg in Catholic school. Never woulda pegged him as someone i'd be seeing on stage somewhere. But he always had a certain soul about him. Good to see old friends livng their dreams.

  • That Michael Quercio is only five years older than me makes me want to cry. He's done so much and I've... drank a lot of beer. True believer, great talent.

  • seriously - best band ever!

  • bummer these guys didnt make it BIG.. my buddys & I would always see them play in L.A

    Rudy R Los Angeles

  • Oh crap! I used to have the EP this was on. These guys were all over the college radio back in the day!

  • Can't believe "Jet Fighter" is nowhere to be found on YouTube. I was always surprised that this band didn't really make it to the big time.

  • You can`t find Cantaloupe either on YT. It is about rights and royalty distribution. The VID from mv3 was great while it lasted. Jet Fighter can be found on the Rhino comp box set Left Of The Dial. I recommend this.

  • nice neo-constructivist stage-setting.

  • I saw them open for R.E.M. in 1985 at state theater in Kalamazoo.

  • In the summer of 1985, I saw them open for R.E.M. at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Crazy show, 3rd row seats! Now, back to my walker, nursing home room, and jello, sigh...;-)

  • What's up tommyrock, send me a message bro!

  • Michael is the shit!

I just got tons of Permanent Green Light and The Jupiter Affect in the mail :D

  • Great bass sound!

  • Whatrever pissings there are between bandmates and lawyers. Cantaloupe Girlfriend is my fav song. Release the early stuff. Eveyone makes money and gets air. Make it happen.

  • the bass player is rockin at 1:43

  • Dying for THE SALVATION ARMY!!! Anybody have anything on VID? Looking for She Turns TO FLowers!!! killer song. Later called "Before the Three O' Clock".... after i guess they were sued by the real Salvation Army....

  • This groups has nothing.

  • learn how 2 spoke

  • Good point, you slag. Pick up the typo. Fact remains: this group has ZERO.

  • This is quite ahead of its time for that date.

  • I've got a copy of "Baroque Hoedown." It's actually considered an E.P. consisting of only five songs (for 1982 anyways). I remember I bought it back in 2000, got it home, put it on, and couldn't understand why the singer sounded so funny. Then I saw I was supposed to play the record at 45 RPM!

  • When did Jason Falkner (of Jellyfish) play in this band?

  • 1987-1989. He's on their last album Vermillion.

  • 1980's College Rock at its finest, when the stations were run by students, instead of "professional" programmers playing pretentious AAA singer-songwriter dreck.

  • cool song

  • Jason Falkner was once O'three O'clock?

  • they look like old school Emo's, cool! :p

  • No way!

  • want his boots

  • It`s a shame that band pissings are making their videos dissapear from here. It`s not like they are The Who or something that grand.

  • what a sweet band. i jsut wish their stuff wasn't so damn hard to find!

  • GREAT post--this video makes me think of "Listen to the Flower People" era Spinal Tap and the musical interludes in the first "Austin Powers" movie. T3O were a GREAT band--my best friend got into them in a huge way and quickly sucked me in too. Finally saw them live in '84 or '85 opening for General Public at Irvine Meadows. This and "With a Canteloupe Girlfriend" were my favorite songs. Great stuff. Long live the Paisley Underground!

  • congratulations. today this video was selected by the NYC Punk Rock Evolution Foundation. groovy.

  • love

  • Brings back memories! I remember seeing them live back in Riverside, Ca. at the Fox Theater. Thanks for posting this video!

  • i never realized how awesome this band is!!

  • brilliant band.

  • Jellyfish 10 years before they were, um

    Jellyfish.

  • jellyfish were boring. these neve were

  • Blasphemy.

  • I don't really know where you're gettin' at but I'll take a guess. First off, coincidence or not, they do not sound like Jellyfish but if you want to be nit-picky that's perfectly fine. "Psychodelic"-wise.. yes.. but that's it. The coincidence part- depending on what you're gettin at- is that Jason Falkner(Jellyfish) played and sang on 3 o'clock's last album Vermillion...

  • Oh, I can get nit-picky and say "psychEdelic." ;)

Just messing with ya. I played in a similar band back in the 80s. We were all inspired by the retro sound that The Three O'Clock created. Many tried before them, but this was right on.

When Jellyfish came out, it was similarly inspired. Although, I don't think 3 O'Clock rubbed off on Jason. It was the other way around. He still makes the best brand of pop in the world. He was born with it. For better or worse. Ask him.

  • Can you show me how it is the other way around 'cause they dropped out of the public eye after their time with him. Are they writing music similar to his?..and what band were you in? Suffice to say, I respect your opinion!

  • I too begin to get "wild"

    at 3 o'clock. . ./

  • /-\ |\/|

  • Holy **** this song is like passing a joint back and forth to to my memories. I'll take it this way!!!!

  • Good christ - this video is beyond cool.

  • I saw them open for Adam Ant in 85.

    What an Awesome band!!!

  • OH thanks for putting this up cool song, had no idea a video was made, great to see it

  • i played a show with these guys,..maybe '83. they showed up, asked what we played (ska) and michael says" how about you play a set, get them going...we'll do half our stuff and then you jump back up and we'll finish it off at the end". so obvious but never saw it or did it before or since. it was fantastic and the energy built up so high by the time they finished we we're all in a collective dream. really nice guys and killer live musicians.

  • I have watched all the 3 o'clock videos and sure get the impression that these guys were unusally tight players. More amazing since they seem to be about 14 years old ;-)

  • She looks like Astrud Gilberto :)

  • um, "she" who? There's not a girl in this band!

  • astrud gilberto's voice isnt as high.. i know i will go to so cal mod hell for that comment..

  • Very XTC-ish. I love it!

  • Or perhaps to be more precise dukes of the stratosphere?

  • Can't argue with that!

  • Michael has so much mascara and Lois looks hot! I love this band, even 25 years later.

  • it would appear alan MaGee was spot on with the influence on the magnificent stone roses, even if the band themselves don't agree. Perfect chiming guitar pop agogo!

  • Perfect 60's song written and recorded in 1982.

  • very talented!

  • I bought this EP back in 1983.I started gobbling up all the related underground stuff such as Rain Parade, Long Ryders, Pandoras,Bangs, etc. However, this is my favorite song from that era. Thanks for finding this.

  • The Bangs... Were they not the orginal name of The Bangles?

  • Yes.

  • Indeed, if you grew up in the mid 80s and were "tuned in" you were into the paisley underground. Love all the bands, and have their records, but I would like to add to the list the Dream Syndicate and early Green on Red as well as the Droogs. My thanks go to beyondthebeat as well for this classic clip.

  • thank you so much!!!!! this video is awesome :D

  • "giant tv screens/many window panes/many things will never be the same."

    brilliant.

  • Splendid! Simply splendid!!! Michael Quercio was so f'ing great!!! Good call on the Who-like sound to this song. The harmonies are pure Carpenters. Thanks for posting this...

  • This was my favorite 3:00 song! Thanks for posting it!

  • Great song. Real Who. The guitarist sounds a bit like Honeyman-Scott of Pretenders. Is that a Telecaster with the Bigsby tremolo or something else?

  • Thhis is pretty cool, but is this really from the 60's? Looks like 80's Mod revival to me...but still pretty cool.

  • 1984 I think

  • I think it is mid 1983, shortly after the MV3 performances.

  • They're lip-syncing to a track off their 1983 "Baroque Hoedown" LP.

  • It is from 1983, and it is part of the 1980s "paisley underground". This was one of the group's first tunes -- not one of their best, in my view. I liked them a lot, though. Check out some other tunes of theirs.

  • The sound of this reminds me of another song but I can't think of it -- anybody else?

  • Sounds like the Eyes of Mind, from L.A.

  • Thanks for finding this clip!
