I should have also said: vena genii, or rather, "uno talento vero". The "vrai esprit" de Beethoven is alive in Korea. So much to remind us in these variations also of 109 and 110! Thank you.
You are a true musician Mr. Yoel Ahn. There is much inventiveness and originality here, with some reference to Beethoven himself who loved to make variations. Waren Sie in 1833 geboren, Herr Ahn?
See, I just don't see the need to make more variations on this... the whole finale of the Ninth were variations on this! And he'd written this theme in previous works, each in slightly varied ways - the 4th piano concerto, the Choral Fantasy... all of those variations on this theme were MUCH better.
i am sorry but you play very well, but i just find the arrangement terrible, its not Beethoven, his 9 in what you played is much more light and free flowing and soft, and your is too violent, i love and study Beethoven, and i dont see this has his 9th, and i think Mr. Bernstein would also agree that this is just not Beethoven.
also, this guy has got some crazy a** hand eye coordination. it was really cool when he brought his hands about a foot up in the air and brought them back down somewhre else around 5:20. Video qualilty was a bit off, but it was worth it. This guy really knows how to play piano.
Good ideas. The one thing I notice is that you really only repeat the theme over and over. I know there's variation in the counterpoint, etc. and those variations are very intelligent. However, you have to space the melody out a bit - in the Ninth, Beethoven only gives you the full melody a few times, and spends the rest of the movement building fragments of it. Same is true of other great variation sets - Paganini Rhapsody by Rachmaninoff, etc. Try not to repeat the same melody too much.
Did you, however, have the intention of writing a scherzo? These variations, I sense, are brilliant. I hear Beethoven's own style in these variations. You owe it to your natural talent to develop your abilities and ideas to the highest level possible. This is, I believe, one could say, your duty.
The only problem is this: nowadays, there is only rare appreciation for such brilliant talent. You should then compose for future generations.
@AristonMenHudor You and I are of the same mind, Ariston! Perhaps were are the same man? Anyhow, Mr. Ahn makes us long for 1825-30. He will be immensely celebrated in 1845, and everyone will know his name in Germany.
bravo
