  • What a beauty, what a beauty..pheeeeww..:)

  • @takoma5 It sure is a beauty...Dodge really had something unique here...very collectible from day one! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Beautiful truck.Do you have the stock wheels for it?

  • @594bolt It's not my car, and I'm not familiar with the wheels that would have been stock, but looking at them, it looks to me like they might be original. Thanks! :) Jack

  • really cool truck

  • @superlinkarts Hey, Steve! I agree! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Well Jack, you seem to keep pulling up memories. I was 18 and my Best friend Bob From Gardner, Ma. Bought this truck brand new. He just about stole the truck from the dealer when he got it in 1980 cause it did not sell in 1979. We had so much fun with that truck. We both cooked in the same rest. and I was standing outside the truck as he started it one hot sunny day and the Truck with it's tall side stack exhaust sprayed me and my new white car all BLACK hahahaha. I was so mad.

  • @gene978 Hey, Gene! What a connection this truck has to your past! This sure was a fun truck...Dodge had a knack then for offering some neat trucks..including, later on, the convertible Dodge Dakota! I can imagine what a mess that black carbon deposits would have been...can't drive the vehicle away, because your carboned clothes would have contaminated the interior! A true test of friendship! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 Yes Jack, that sure was a test of Friendship. I remember I was just going into work my 12 hour shift and now I was all black polka dotted. HAHA. That was probably the fastest vehicle I had been in by that year 1980. My friend Bob was also a big Fire chaser with his scanners. Used to drive me crazy! The cops would always yell at him to get out of the way. I think back at how silly he was cause he was in the way. I remember him saying that someday that truck will be a collectors item.

  • @gene978 Hey, Gene! That was almost a natural for chasing fires...being red! He was definitely right about it becoming a collector's item...I wish forecasting that was a simple matter! Thanks! :) Jack

  • i remember those trucks and i always liked them. i know doing voice over takes more time to do on these videos, but im glad you decided to go that route.

like i said, it makes it seem like we are in your living room watching home movies. hope you continue to make videos.

  • @XboobtubeX Hey, Bob! I agree..I liked the truck when I first saw it! Thanks for the words of encouragement! I will continue! :) Jack

  • Agreed, very toy like, this one appears to be in excellent condition, can't remember if it was '78 or '79, but this truck was the fastest domestic vehicle for the year!, even quicker than a Corvette of the year! but that's the '70s, vehicles really suffered in the power department, due to stricter emission standards, anyways thanks for sharing Jack!

  • @BRENTHENRY1989 Hey, Brent! Yeah..this is what Dodge needed at a critical time...some collector interest in the brand which had been so hot a decade earlier!

Whoever decided to develop the truck had some good marketing sense....I wonder what ever happened to that person! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Nice!! The wood trim on the bed sides look awesome! Cool truck! :D

  • @JesseAndMike Hey, guys! Wood accents were a big deal...too bad the bed wasn't visible..that was nice hardwood too! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Very nice, jack, I love pick up trucks, those exhaust stacks look excellent :)

  • @drewerz01 Hey, Mike! Yes indeed..the exhaust stacks are probably the most attention getting part of the truck, beside the flashy red paint and trim.....a sure way Dodge had to generate interest! Thanks! :) Jack

  • What an awesome example of a rare truck! With that famous 360 under the hood, there's nothing you can't like about the truck

  • @4wheeler14 Hey, Scott! I definitely like this truck...very cool..and wanted to buy one when it was new...but no money! Thanks! :) Jack

  • It's a 1979, Jack. The 1978 models had round headlights and the 1979 models had the stacked headlights.. There are quite a few here in North Carolina, including a local Drag-Truck made from a real Lil' Red Express.

  • @Sarcasticscum Hey, Nathan! Thanks for the id..and I'll change the title. I've seen a few here too...I think it was one of those vehicles that stood a good chance of preservation because it was bought as a "toy" in the first place. :) Jack

  • Jack, Sorry for two comments. You can clearly see from 0;30 to 0;39 a four barrel Carter "Thermo Quad" carburetor. The black center piece in the carb is the phenolic fuel bowl. It was designed to keep the fuel cooler, thus helping it atomize more effectively. Although there were some warping problems, it was an effective (for it's time) way to increase performance and reduce emissions, one of the first times that emission enhancement and improved (vs. deteriorated) performance were married.

  • @jferg7159 Hey, Joe! Thanks for your detailed knowledge about the carb! A case here where the engineers were right..and it worked! :) Jack

  • That truck is a 1979, they had the square headlights. The 1978 modells had round headlights. Very cool truck.

  • @Villxe Thanks for the correction! I'll fix the title! :) Jack

  • very nice pickup.Nice paints and still intact

  • @7784Patrick Hey, Patrick! Yeah, the truck was in great condition..looked very original! Thanks! :) Jack

  • These were brought out late in the 78 model year and were doing quite well until the gas crisis of 79 stopped the demand for these hot little pickups. The 360 had a hotter cam and without all the pollution control it was quite hot. This one is sure in great shape.

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! Ah, that helps explain why the demand died down for this great truck! And as I remember it, pollution standards weren't the same for cars and trucks. Thanks! :) Jack

  • Great Truck. I've always wanted one.

  • @jasonsg4111 Hey, Jason! I'd love to have one like this! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Thank you so much for posting. I have never been able to see one up close. Great job.

  • @MIGHTSPIKE Hey, Dwingt! I see these trucks from time to time. Glad you enjoyed! Thanks! :) Jack

  • One guy in my town had this truck, I always loved it! Thanks Jack:-)

  • @1DRock37167 Hey, Daryl! It sure is an attention getter! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Jack, Interesting that you note the "toy" quality. Dodge marketed this and the earlier Warlock as 'Adult Toys". This truck is reputed to be the brainchild of Tom Hoover, father of the 426 Hemi. Tom was concerned about the lack of performance in the Chrysler stable, he found a "loophole" in government emission and fuel economy regulations that allowed the E58 360 police spec engine with modifications like 1968 340 heads and a four barrel carb to be used. This truck is very original and nice.

  • @jferg7159 Hey, Joe! Thanks for the history on this, and the detail about the engine! It is a nice "toy" indeed! :) Jack

  • awesome truck. are you using a plug in mic on your camera now because of the "supposed" copyright violation?

  • @brace06 Hey Brace! I'm editing the vid...muting the original soundtrack and adding one at home. Thanks! :) Jack

  • awesome TRUCK ! I want one. I might make a clone. Thats more in my price range.

  • @k73mrviking Yeah...I see no reason why that couldn't be done...basically their regular pickup...I think the "wood" trim might be something of a problem on the side of the truck...could be painted possibly. The exhaust stacks would be another element that would have to be copied. Thanks! :) Jack
