  • The love of my life posted this video for me on Fb and told me we couldn't be together even though she loves me and has loved me for years. I see now that our love is a boat and I will row it with her for as long as it takes to get to the other side. Is this what she was trying to tell me.....

  • I'm singing this for school, well my sister is. Wish her luck

  • It's so beautiful i want to cry when i hear it!

  • Até que em fim achei esta musica, ela aparece no 8º episodio da 5ª temporada!!! muito bonita a musica.....

  • Who composed this wonderfull song?

    Quíen compuso esta maravillosa canción?

    Quem composse essa maravilhosa cançao?

  • This song is a traditional English or Scottish folk song, so the tune is by an anonymous composer, however many, many arrangements exist. This word setting is called 'The Water is Wide' but the tune usually goes as 'O Waly Waly'. It's so beautiful i want to cry when i hear it!

  • This is the BEST version of all of them. My second choice would be the acoustic guitar instrumental by Mark Hanson. What a soothing and relaxing mix. The bass line is the power that holds it all together. What a fantastic arrangement.

  • in the league of " Amazing Grace"

  • i remember the episode on alias when this song was played in towards the end.i cried!i love both the show, and this song.thanks so much for making and posting this video.you made my day.

  • Glad to hear it! Thanks :)

  • Esta canción se la tiene que escuchar siempre... todo el tiempo

  • I watched this episode of Alias Last night and I'd never heard a "new" version of this song... Absolutely amazing !!! Just searched for this on you tube today...Thanks heaps for posting :)

  • You're very welcome! :)

  • The same as you. Brought a tear to my eye. What a lovely song.

  • which part of traditionol culture does this song stem from? Welsh, Irish, Keltic?

  • It seems to share some lyrics with an old Irish song - Carrickfergus.

I heard this version a good while ago on the "thirtysomething" TV series' soundtrack - I didn't know the harmony was James Taylor, though.

Great song, great version - hearty & real, not schmaltzy or sickly.

  • Kind of hard to tell, since it's old enough

(17th century at least), that it's swapped

verses and melodies with a bunch of other

    variations of childe ballad #204.

Probably Scottish by way of England.

Check out "waly waly" at mudcat.

  • Yep, I'd read the lengthy stuff on Mudcat & elsewhere. Someone at mudcat though says - "Waly, Waly, or Jamie Douglas - Child #204 is not to be confused with the Water Is Wide or Cockell Shells".

  • This is a Celestial song...

  • my favourite song haunting and emotional

  • Wow! I hardly see Sydney/Rachel fanfics around, not to mention fan videos. You did this beautifully, and I applaud you for that. Thanks for giving this to us!

  • Thanks, I enjoyed making it. :) If you find any good (hell, I'm so starved I'd even take bad) Sydney/Rachel fics around, be sure to give me a holler. ;)

  • This song, so lovely, the way different voices claim the lyrics... and the haunting melody

You can tell the ones where age and experience have enriched their understanding

    Thank you for this version

Her voice carries you through the entire storytelling

    *sheri*

  • who's the girl who plays Rachel?

  • Rachel is played by Rachel Nichols.

  • Only a few can sing sad songs so sadly and beautifully the way she does...

    TRUE!!

  • anyone of u seen/heard Karla bonoff's WILD HEART OF THE YOUNG??

    its B E A U T I F U L !!

i've been lookin for that video over here..but havent found it..

it plays in the background of one of "THE WONDER YEARS" titled "BROKEN HEARTS N BURGERS"

both are beautiful..the episode n the song aswell.!

  • Karla Bonoff with James Taylor singing background vocals...can't beat that!

  • I totally agree. Hers is the best and most beautiful version. And 'Falling Star' on the self-titled album is so.... Only a few can sing sad songs so sadly and beautifully the way she does...

  • You should listen to Charlotte Church's version, then decide.

  • In my opinion, Karla's is the best version of this song ever recorded. I still listen to this song on my original LP. Thank you for putting this on You Tube.

  • OMG, i've been looking for this song since ive seen the episode it was in! LOVE LOVE LOVE U!!! lol, thank you so much!! twas awesome video xxx

  • Hehe... you're very welcome. *grin* The song was just perfect for that moment in the episode, and for the Sydney/Rachel pairing... I had to use it.

  • Karla Bonoff rocks! Best album to have on when making love.

  • I agree. :)

  • Thanks :) And yes, it was. It's a pity it had to end. I would have liked to see another season of Sydney/Rachel *sigh*

  • This was a really sweet fanvid. I just rewatched season 5 this past weekend. *sigh* Sooo good. :)
