Spencer - wow... Prokofiev seems to be very well suited to you. For an 8 year old to be in control of this piece is astounding. Very well done, indeed! As far as I am concerned, this is your most convincing video, so far.
@pianolover1004 Thanks Daniel, you are very good yourself, and we love your music too! We just returned from New York, where Spencer played at AADGT 2010 Winners Concert at Carnegie Hall. Thanks for your support!
Not only do I like his playing, but also the way he rolls up his sleeves, looks into the audience while playing and bows at the end.. What a personality! I think I like Spencer :)
He definitely does not lack character - he "gets right into it" but I do not know how many adjudicators would be able to appreciate it... ;-)) Thanks very much!
Wouaw!!!! IMPRESSING!!! it's one of my favorite pieces!!!!wouaw again!!! playing prokofiev at 8yo! bravo! je ne peux que m'incliner devant cette performance remarquable! ^^
Thank you very much! With Montagues & Capulets, it happens quite a lot - last year in Italy he almost fell of the chair. (l guess all those hockey and swimming lessons are coming to fruition...)
This was not meant to be played by an eight year old, so it becomes a very "athletic" piece. He is at his max. arm reach, as well as his fingers' reach. He is used to it by now.
Spencer, it was great to hear your performance live! The video looks great. I noticed that the bench kept sliding. Almost everyone had the same problem. They should have placed a rug on that slippery floor. Look forward to your future performances. Have a great summer!
Thanks, Abhik very much for your kind comments and enjoy your summer!! The bench always moves on me because some pieces, like M&C, require me to move quite rapidly. I am getting used to it, but it can be a bit unnerving.
Hi Bob. Thank you very much for adding this as a video response. I thought that that piece was played beautifully by your son. Spencer is a highly talented musician and I am sure he will go far in life. How on earth does he manage to play so good at such a young age!?
I will of course want to see him play in the future, in person!
Thanks for watching and thanks for your kind comment. Getting together for a dinner sounds like a plan. I wish there was some planned-ahead activity for parents and supporters.
We didn't get a chance to talk to you guys at the recital. Shame she didn't have a reception for the parents to chat. I loved this piece and wanted Anna to learn it, but I think the octaves are too hard. Spencer has huge hands for an 8 year old.
Yes, Spencer has a rather large hands for an eight year old, but the size of your daughter's hands should not deter you from trying to see how she would handle it - she is obviously an extremely capable pianist, besides if it should cause a distress, you can stop it. Her hands will grow too and it will widen her playing field. She is great!
Kids can have a surprising and wonderful ability to compensate. Thanks again, Bob, mom and Spencer.
This was an emotional trip for all of us, especially for Spencer, that's why words of appreciation like yours, lilly763's and voisong's are very satisfying. Thanks very, very much Lalita!
Thanks very much! I was watching your videos with an equal amount of amazement - congratulations, we will have to spend more time listening to your music - it's awesome! (And thanks to lilly763)
If one didn't look at the video, it would be nearly impossible to guess that such a powerful sound was coming from an 8-year-old! This is an amazing performance.

Now you need to work on your pianissimo ;-)

Spencer, it's not easy work to play Prokofiev on the age of 8. And I like this outstanding performance very much.
Please give us more of you. We wait your new works.
