It looks like all he is doing is checking, plus the camera isn't even on him for the whole "wipe" so one cannot see any splattering of paint or recoil. Nevertheless I do know a few people who play paintball semi-pro and wiping and cheating is a large part of the game at that point (sadly), so I wouldn't put it past any player once shit gets real.
