  • @antonettedelacruz25 With the syringe you can manually control the pressure. Just be careful not to pull the plunger too quickly, you can easily hemolyze the blood. Also keep in mind how much blood you will need for your collection. You will have to draw more for 6 tubes and blood cultures, than you would for say just a single tube. If doing more than one tube I suggest using a 12 ML syringe and if you have any extra left over, place that blood in a red top tube for extra blood.

  • @antonettedelacruz25 If you are talking about what I am thinking about, it is where you will attach a syringe to a butterfly, or in some instances I will use a syringe with a 23 gauge needle and directly draw out of the vein. Its up to your employers and their policies. I find that when you have a patient with bad veins (such as the geriatric, or neonates) the tubes/culture bottles pull too much pressure on the vein and will collapse it.

  • Ολήκληρη διαδικασία κάνουν στο Εξωτερικό για να σ πα΄ρουν αίμα για 5 λεπτά.

  • the iodine is not exactly necesssary. the alcohol is fine, as long as it dries.

  • wth??? why u shake the tube????

  • @chichilove88 to mix the anticoagulant

  • Why would you put a finger above the puncture site? Number one, you're contaminating the site, and number two, you just shoved a needle toward your own hand. That tourniquet was on at least a good three minutes, so your samples are going to be all messed up--not that that matters, since you shook the tube like a martini--hemolysis, anyone?

  • @jessthep1rate i was thinking the same thing

  • treat everyone like they have HIV

  • well done!

  • when youre a beginning phlebotomist you should invert em all 8 times. red ones not necessary.

  • Everyone has their own technique. Switching hands is acceptable if you have that dexterity. (if you're a spastic do not try this at home). I do disagree with the finder above the needle. But she does a very good job narrating the procedure.

  • @TheRyanStoneShow ur right. and as a beginning phelbotomist myself i use one hard and put the tube in before i take blood. it works for me.

  • @TheRyanStoneShow Exactly, I am an EMT-IV and almost finished with Paramedic school. I work for two different ambulance services and recently got a part time job as a phlebotomist at one of our local hospitals. I always cross over after doing the stick, it comes natural to me where I have done IV's for so long. My supervisor didn't like it, but after seeing the other 3 phlebs he just hired (they have no experience) constantly miss and I rarely ever miss a stick, he has got off my back.

  • wow.. i seen a few things wrong! finger above site... like someone said below and ummm and u should not be switchin hands between the vac holder... and she should NOT have been shaking the tube! she should INVERT! :) o welll everyone makes mistakes i knw i have! :)

  • she did good until she put her fingers above the needle, bad! Good way to get a needle stick.....

  • Alright I have a confession, I don't have the strongest stomach when it comes to watch blood be drawn. I used to vommit when someone would burp or pass wind or even seen a roach (yes all thats true when I was 10 up to 20 years old) now at the age of 24 ive been volunteering in day surgery rooms and telemetry and icu units where everyone has to have blood drawn and I can deal with it now. and its funny I never thought I would be taking phlebotomy. anyonelse had that prob?

  • I can show little kids what these are for and demonstrate it on a doll.

  • I've never been taught to use Iodine and alcohol for venipuncture. I normally just use an alcohol swab. But then again it is a training video, they probably don't want to miss anything. And want to be very precise.

  • Good video but you need to release the tourniquet after you find the vein then re-apply when you have everything assembled. If you leave it on how she did it was cause hemoconcentration and give false results in the lab.

  • I've been hunting for a good training video for a while and this one is typical: the comments teach so much more than the vid. Cheers all.

  • Protective eyewear? Hahaha.

  • yes sometimes you need to wear a protective eyewear esp. drawing blood from patients inflicted with HIV

  • and i've never been taught to use a povidone iodine swab for routine venipuncture. blood cultures maybe, but not something as simple as two tubes.

  • Super !

  • But I also think she left it on that long for demonstration purposes.

  • so what if im drawing 13 tubes. do i wait til the last one is halfway full to finallllly release the tourniquet?? lol

at least she cleans the site, im disgusted by how many dont, or clean it then touch it with an unclean ungloved finger. siiiiigh!!!!

the phrase "Sanitary Conditions" should NOT be a new concept people!!

  • Never leave the tourniquet on more than 1 min..it will definately leave a hematoma.

  • thats not necessarily tru, but i was being sarcastic. thank you anyway. :}

  • you cant say that.....definatley, bot more likely but not for sure, i have left them on for some time with no problems....sorry

  • Would not recommend this demonstartion to any new Phlebotomist.

  • She left the tourniquet on way too long. She also covered the venipuncture site from herself. It's poorly done.

  • ha ha and you need to invert the SST tubes 8 times to make sure the anticoagulant mixes with all the blood. Dont shake it....that can cause hemolysis!!!!!!

  • not really.........

  • The technique is bad, phlebotomy is not done like this..Have you ever heard of anchoring the vein?

You are holding the needle wrong too...a really good example of what not to do!

  • hmmm its ok ......I've seen worse
