@frecloud - ahaha, I just Google'd it, you're right - I don't know what I was thinking, guess I just read "Werchter" and thought German (it does sound more German than French/Belgian).

I stand by my original comment, but I now have respect for the Belgian fans! Though I know German fans are hardcore. Must've been the hyped up crowd and the word "Werchter" that made me think they were Germans!

it's Matt's VG-8, Guitar synth system. You use a special pickup and it can turn an ordinary guitar signal into a whole variety of sounds, e.g. trumpets, piano, acoustic etc.

actually i've just watched it again and I think it may be the Digitech Whammy WH-4, a pitchshifting effects pedal, making the signal go up an octave (or 2). Matt uses it a fair bit, like on the New Born solo, and more :)
