doin a hellava good job, looks great!i restore muscle cars and biuld street rods at my bussiness.milner's speed & custom shop.your work looks good.i hope you finish it and keep for your kids to get to know about them old badass chevy's
@Mr1963chevy Thank you sir very much for the compliment . I have not had much time to work on the 55 this year , i had to build a garage so i would have a place to work on it and that took any funds i had saved up to finish the car out . oh well . One of these days , the time and the money will come one of these days , until then she is sitting high and dry in a new garage.
thats really neat guy, yeah im 24 and have a belair gasser...kinda started like u did but mine actually looked worse..lol...but had a lot of help with my pops and uncle and miller....check mine out if u wish...but exactly..build it how u see fit...right on buddy and take care
I wanted to get a 55 chevy SOOOOOOO bad and do exactly what you are doing. But then I saw the prices and decided to settle for a 65 mustang lol. Awesome work keep it up! Are you going to make it a cross between a stock and racing interior with the guage pods? Good luck it's going good!
Thanks again guys. Im still saving up the money for a blower and to button up the 396 , Hoping to have it 98% finished by the end of summer. It will be a streetable but for special occasions i picked up a survivor 4 door 55 to be used as a tow car to take her to the dragstrip , it oughta be a pretty neat sight to see rolling down the highway.
this coming from a strictly no chevy guy, i think i'd drive that bow tie when finish lol. you are going to throw a ford engine in that right j/k good work though
thanks for all the nice comments guys . Ive put the 55 up for the winter months seeing as how i dont have heat in the shop and we are currently coming out of sub zero temps. The 396 is going together for it now , looking for a 6-71 for it at a reasonable price " Any sponsors out there ?" ha ha ha. Will hopefully have some running driving vids about mid summer , im praying anyways.
wow thats really cool. i have a 55' 210 model project that my dad has had for 20 years. i just started working on it a week ago and we are lined up to recieve a free 454 bb. and im only 15 with a permit. and im the co owner. lucky kid ey?
Thank Rich . the only other vids i have as of now are of the interior i finished a couple weeks ago . She wont be on the road until next year but im good with that.
Just finished installing a complete american autowire harness thisevening , actually about 15 minutes ago ha haha . Worked out great.
Hi there. I had alot of guys tell me the 48 -54 chevy truck axle but thats wrong , the springs are angled together at the front and they sit to far inboard to be safe. Sooo i used the axle out of a 57 chevy , any axle from a 55 2NDseries to a 59 will work , the springs are perfectly parralel on those and the spring pads match almost PERFECT with the stock 55 frame. I installed new king pins , disc brake kit , and springs from speedway motors , total cost of axle build was $450.00
Heres is a parts list for my front axle with numbers and prices through speedway motors Chevy flat steering arms = 91632031 $39.99 semi elipticle straight axle mounting hardware kit 91639030 $74.99 1947-59 DELUXE CHEVY PICK-UP BRAKE KIT, 5 ON 4-3/4" Item #: 91031916 Price: $249.99 KT 1949-54 CHEVY KING PIN KIT Item #: 91032123 Will work up to 1959 Price: $39.99 pr LEAF SPRING, REVERSE EYE, PLN Item #: 91033032 youll need to of these Price: $59.99 EA x 2
You can change the bolt pattern on your disc brake hubs to whatever wheels you want to run , i was sticking with the chevy pattern. if you want to spend a little more they have chrome options on some of those parts also . Remember , stick with the 55 2nd series axle to 1959. Also i guess my price was a little off or maybe they raised them a little since i built mine,.
There will always be 2 sides to that argument lol. Some guys like stockers and some like radiused and generally its a pretty strong dislike for one or the other depending on which group you ask. As you can tell i much prefer the radiused look . not a fan of the stock wheel well . The Nomads were great but not the others. Plus , it would been rough on those 10.5w's would been chewing sidewalls out left and right lol.
Plus i honestly think they look so much better, The 55 is considered by many to be one of the first " Muscle " cars and with grandmas wheel opening it just doesnt work. As is obvious with the straight axle , im not going for the typical cookie cutter red 55 chevy rolling on 17 inch boyd wheels with a/c . DOnt want to be just another 55 in a sea of look alikes. Dont want this one to look like it was sponsored by summit or any of the other billet books.

That is sweet. Great job, I guess, the budget doesn't effect the quality of the product, only the time it takes to complete it.

Its not a gasser without cut fenderwells. I do like stock fenderwells on a tubbed 55. As far as gassers go.....CUT IT UP !
badgasser55 3 years ago
should not have cut rear quarters
