  • i planted my seeds in seed compost, when will they need added fertilizer?

  • where do u buy the seeds

  • @coreen1400 our website: surfmonkeycoconut com, you can buy there or click the link to our ebay store. $2.97 shipped for 500 seeds and full color instruction booklet!

  • Tobacco seeds need sunlight to germanate thou

  • @Curiousitykillzs need sunlight to grow after germination. Germination is just the seed activating with moisture, most seeds do this under a few inches of soil, with no sunlight.

  • Guys, I am from Maldives a remote area in the indian ocean...here the climate is very different, but average is sunny. Will I be able to gro these plants here?

  • Hi there! Most interesting video! I'm planning on growing some tobacco here in the UK. Have just bought some Virginia Tobacco seeds from Ebay. Just wanted to know what the best time to sow is in the Uk? Also, should I use a greenhouse since I'm in the Uk? How long do seeds stay fresh or useable? Also I heard 40 plants is enough for a years smoking, is that true? I would appreciate it if anyone could please answer this for me. Thanks! :)

  • @TheToddy30 Awesome!! You should sow your seeds about a month indoors before the last frost, if you have a really short growing season, I would sow 2 months prior so that you can plant outside as soon as the weather turns to warmth! You could get a greenhouse if you plan to do winter growing, but I don't think its necessary to grow outside of the summer months. Seeds should last for about 3 years in a cool dry place, however it will lose germination rate as time goes on.

  • @SurfMonkeyCoconut do you have to be 18 to grow because am 16 and i dont want to smoke it i just want to grow. its just a plant

  • @ylerspina Seeds are not a "smoke ready" product so all ages can grow them, however its not really a decorative plant and there may be more exciting ones to grow over a tobacco, like carnivorous plants! As seen in this series, tobacco gets very large so you will need either big pots or a lot of space, full sun and it grows best during the summer. Also if you do grow it, it is dangerous to pick a leaf off the plant and smoke it, because again its not smoke ready, and at that point

  • @SurfMonkeyCoconut you may run into underage possession legality issues!

  • @TheToddy30 plant in Feb indoors in a south facing window place outdoors when last frost has been...they will grow outside or in a green house and can go 7ft high. 40 plants is plenty for your own consumption.seeds will stay usable as long as they are kept in dry dark place like your wardrobe in your bedroom. greenhouse will give more vigorous growth and probably longer growing time due to temperature drop towards oct. your green house will have to be massive for 40 plants!

  • do i have to water the plants while they're covered with the tin foil?

  • @Tedy8989 if you have water in the tray at the bottom, under the seedling tray that will usually be enough depending on the specific soil you are using. If the top soil seems dry you can mist with a spray bottle.

  • @SurfMonkeyCoconut thanks for the answer :)

  • i here a kitty kat

  • @LegitXTrinny Oscar the "tobacco patch" cat.

  • I grow my own Virginia Gold. Can you help or give ANY tips on the fermenting process please. I lost my whole crop last year, This year, I made a homemade Kiln out of a black box. I use a pierced bottle with sponges to hold water for humidity and try to keep the heat at about 100 to 125 degrees. I use the sun for heat. So far so good on my first batch but I still cant get it right. Trying to be patient but im ready for a big batch now and I dont want to screw up another crop. Any advice????

  • @smooretogo YES! We will do a vid series on this coming up at harvest time. But in the meanwhile check out our surfmonkeycoconut channel on instructables. We wrote a whole article about the fermentation process. Its the best and cheapest method we've used.

  • @SurfMonkeyCoconut Thank you, You are one of the very few to at the least answer me.

    I will study on it.

  • This video is wrong on so many levels. You DO NOT use soil with Miracle grow to GERMINATE seedlings. Your seedling with grow very "leggy". Also, you DO NOT cover with foil. It's best to create some type of greenhouse environment. I also find that germination in "partial shade" works very well.

  • @mindstate30 There is more than one way to make an omelet. Its not a question of right or wrong but different methodologies.

We are promoting low cost solutions with readily available substrates. The moisture control soil works far more effectively than inert mediums such as jiffy pots for 1/20th the cost. Seedlings will not be leggy if grown in sufficient sunlight (your leggy sprouts are a result of the partial shade you mentioned).

Covering is the fastest method to germinate these...

  • @mindstate30 ...seeds, we are not saying its the only way. Traditional sowing works fine, however will take up to 2 weeks to germinate. The cover method will germinate in 2 days. Commercial tobacco growers do not use this method because they don't have the time and resources to concentrate on such a small batch; but the home grower does so why not use the most effective means, especially when most people are sitting on 'pins and needles' waiting for sprouts anyway.

  • love your products

  • @sh0ps90 Awesome! Thanks! Hope to add more soon!

  • why grow tobacco just grow weed.

  • @TheDYABLO777

    some people prefer tobacco

  • @JackJackKcajify Its harder to grow tobacco.

  • @TheDYABLO777 or better yet do both :)

  • @amosyboy Connecticut tobacco leaves make a great wrapper leaf! ;)

  • @SurfMonkeyCoconut and if it looks like a cigar cops wont suspect it :)

  • @TheDYABLO777 LOL! For the challenge, I guess!

  • Great & helpful video, thanx for posting.

  • @razorblade42069 Awesome! Thanks for watching!

  • the seeds need light to germinate properly Dumb ASS

  • @coronapeacock You are getting your terms confused. To germinate, all you need is warmth and moisture, remember nearly seeds germinate underground, 2" under the soil there is NO SUN. Once germinated, the sprouts need sunlight, but they will stretch out of the soil to get this. In this case once sprouted you take the 'simulated ground cover off'.

It is possible to sow these traditionally without covering, it will just take about 2 weeks to germinate rather than 2 days.

  • the seeds need light to germinate properly

  • @djdj2399 Sprouts and seedlings need sunlight to develop properly, "seed germination" needs only moisture and moderate temperatures for the magic to happen, hence most seeds are buried under soil when they germinate, (no sunlight). These seeds are so tiny that they sprout better when not buried, the foil simulates ground cover, and will sprout in 3 days; the sprouts must then be exposed to sun.

Covering the seeds is not a requirement, they will germinate uncovered in 7 days or so.

  • dude your cat sounds hungry...

  • @glennkon LOL! He got the munchies!

  • pay more attention to your cat!

  • i herd from a man thats been growing tobacco sence he was 4 years old and hes 85 now he said not to touch the seeds at all cause it stuns the growth

  • @flabbyboy123 He may have been referring to when you are preparing the seeds for storage. In this case he is correct, any type of moisture exposure, humidity, sunlight, oil and improper handling in general, etc. could cause low germination rates! We process our seeds to their idea state and hermetically seal them from the elements.

But in the case of sowing seeds, its ok to touch them as they will be exposed to water and soil immediately afterwards anyway...JUST DON"T PRESS TOO HARD! LOL!

  • Ok I have some questions I looked on ur eBay and i wanted to no if u accepet Visa if not I have to buy some where else and what are ur top tobacco plant species for smoking thanks

  • @sadlittlebo send me a message in e-bay regarding what items you are interested in! I will send a Paypal payment request where you can enter any credit card you want, you won't even need to have a paypal account, in essence it is a secure virtual terminal.

  • can you tell me what is the miracle gro name also do you think that stuff you use in the Peat trays would work good together

  • @DuckTailRocker Yes, it is called "Miracle Grow Moisture Control", it is their primary potting soil product, you can find it at most all stores. Home depot, Fred Meyer, Wal Mart, etc.

  • Nice vid, ive tried twice in the past to grow tobacco and each time they seemed to grow too slowly and when our fantastic english summer died as early as it usually does, so did my plants. I'm gonna try again after seeing this vid, cheers!

  • @ChannelEden Ahhh. Yes we are plagued by short summers in the city here in Seattle, the key is to start your seedlings very early indoors! typically April is a good time but perhaps March would be better for you!

  • Q: Whats your kittens name? = 3

  • @sweffe96 LOL! thats oscar the tobacco cat! He doesn't smoke himself, nor is he exposed to second hand :)

  • @SurfMonkeyCoconut Haha, thats an awesome name!

  • Thanks alot surf monkey coconut! I ordered one of your kits on a whim a few months ago. Great buy altogether! TONS of seeds, really they are so small there are so many to plant! The instructions is a very nice addition, high quality and clear. Great kit! i have about 15 first sized plants now, and just planted another two trays! I would suggest a smaller tray in your kit, like a 52 plant micro tray instead or the large one

  • @digdugdiggy Awesome! thanks for the advice! How are things going now?

  • @SurfMonkeyCoconut

Great! I have about 5 large plants (size of a soccer ball or so) and many littler ones. My main concern is the coming winter. So far, all my plants have been in pots. We have a decent sized plot in the ground but I'm worried about it getting cold and the plants dying. How good do they deal with cold? I live in Texas. Hopefully I can keep some in pots overwinter in the greenhouse, maybe get my own seeds for next season if I'm lucky. But I still have most of your pack left!

  • @digdugdiggy One thing you got going for you is that typically Texas has a slightly longer summer than the rest of the US. But yes once temperatures get below 40-ish, it will become too cold for further growth, it will be absolutely too cold during the first frost, this will kill the plant.

If you have a greenhouse at your disposal, it will be best to move it in there! The only problem will be, sufficient sunlight and manual pollination of the flowers if you plan to have seeds!

  • yeahhhh we got healthy tobacco!!!

  • @SIMONDUKEN Whooot!

  • hahah nice cat

  • How wet should the grow medium must be?

  • @MdFkR0 soil should always be moist! Easiest way is to set the seedling tray in a tofu container or something similar and keep at least 2" of water in the container at all times, the tray will wick up water from the tray's drain holes.

  • 2:49 MEOW MEOW MEOW [PAY ATTENTION TO ME] MEOW :) :)

  • @angryadrien LOL!! He really loves attention, especially when I am talking to people or on the telephone.

  • do you only ship your seeds to the US?

  • nice explination

  • @STUDENTOFARNIS Thanks!
