they should have the electronic moving platforms for loading passengers onto the planes like the do for the luggage platforms an lifts. One thing that is really bad about flying is the slow boarding and exiting of passengers. WE need to start loading and unloading passengers from all sides of the airplanes. Open every exit. I flew Air Canada this week. I intended to fly to St. John's, Newfoundland via Halifax. After waiting almost 24 hours in Halifax only to be told that my flight was cancelled, I turned around and flew back to the States. Sorry Canada, I did intend to spend several thousand dollars in your country but Air Canada screwed that one up. On top of that, they lost our luggage!. Pathetic!

@albertabeefcowboy84 depends if you get one with flight attendents who are having a bad day and have been working for 16+ hours straight and sometimes there just old hags but most of the time there pretty nice the food is pretty good on flights i have never been on a flight that was late just early and most of there planes dont need fixing and my luggage has NEVER been lost... mabey your just unlucky and also when was the last time you flew air canada?
The food is not free anymore. Its expensive and its like $ 8 for a tiny bread-like thing. On a 9 hour flight they didn't serve food or drinks and the company does not give a damn about their clients.

@albertabeefcowboy84 well i am in france and the 7 hr flight from toronto to paris was fairly nice i flew on there biggest airplane and on the seats was a pillow and blanket (it was an overnight flight) and we got served supper for FREE it was a choice on chicken or penne i had the chicken it was very good and we also got a banana muffin for breakfast and somthing to drink overall very nice the flight i didnt like was AF a321 the had no recline and the seats were small w no entertainmen
Ok when I take it next, I will compare my service to yours and see whats better. Porter airlines and westjet is lightyears ahead of air canada any day so I probably will end up taking one of those instead unless I dont have any other choice.
@albertabeefcowboy84 Both WestJet and Porter don't do long haul international flights, so you can't really compare to Air Canada on the transatlantic service. For domestic service however, I agree with you.
Yeah, perhaps I should have stated that above. That is what I was referring to when I said I don't like Air Canada. Now with the added cost for baggage at Air Canada, I really will go out of my way to avoid Air Canada and would prefer to take AA or something of equal value.
Not to mention that there is a strike order going through now too, but I am sure Air Canada is happy being dead last in customer service and satisfaction.

i remember when on a flight form heathrow to toronto the aircraft was holding short of the runway and i am the kind of guy who panicks about thinking scary thoughts inside my own head and was scared about thinking about the engine failing on takeof and was paranoid by just thinking these thoughts might cause bad luck then the pilot made an announcement and said something and all the crazy thoughts and worry in my head totally vanished. it was as though he had some kind of power that helped me

i flew from heatrhow to toronto on air canada then from toronto to vancouver. THat was an amazing couple of flights. I like flying so much i always choose a connection flight rather than a direct flight. I always find it strange remembering being up there months later and remembering the flight makes it seem so special. It's weird remembering being back up there. The memory of it makes it seem like a trip to another land due to the size of the journey

there somethign very special about flying i always find in every long flight east bound. FOr me its the unique feeling of being that high and exposed to more uv rays even though that has its inherent risks. Everytime i look back at my photos of toronto airport of the ground taxiways it reminds me of the straneg sensation on the flight. For me its pleasure combined with fear and the strangeness of being in a pressurized cabin and remembering being up there. Its very weird indeed
@Vekoma1261 Economics I would guess. the 767/777's that have replaced 747's on intercontinental routes have an edge in operating cost. Moreover with greater competition there may not be passenger demand to warrant the larger 747. It's a pity, there has never been a better airliner than Boeing's biggest bird. In three to five years watch for 787's to begin taking over the longer intercontinental routes. A/C has ordered more than three dozen of them.

I looked behind me and nobody was standing there! I know many folks praise A.C but I bet they have nothing to compare it to. air canada must be losing money. on our flight from toronto to london heathrow we got given a chemiocally flavoured bannana muffin for breakfast and nothing else. the breakfas from london heathrow to toronto was better. FLying was fun for a while but its hassles are becoming more evident. THe flying is fun but airports are not. the worst airport has got to be london heathrow. terminal 3 for air canada is just a mess and is not tidy at all. we found the staff very reluctant to help

I don't mean to sound negative here, but we flew A.C several times and it was a far cry from a pleasant travel experience. The flight is usually in time and the planes are safe, The scheduling is good and the bags almost never get lost.
The issue is with the employees and their attitude. I am not comparing AC to "luxury" carriers like Emirates or Singapore AL, but even a discount Airline like Westjet, EasyJet or WizzAir has friendlier service than AC. This Company needs a staff overhauling.

@albertabeefcowboy84 depends if you get one with flight attendents who are having a bad day and have been working for 16+ hours straight and sometimes there just old hags but most of the time there pretty nice the food is pretty good on flights i have never been on a flight that was late just early and most of there planes dont need fixing and my luggage has NEVER been lost... mabey your just unlucky and also when was the last time you flew air canada?

The food is not free anymore. Its expensive and its like $ 8 for a tiny bread-like thing. On a 9 hour flight they didn't serve food or drinks and the company does not give a damn about their clients.

@albertabeefcowboy84 well i am in france and the 7 hr flight from toronto to paris was fairly nice i flew on there biggest airplane and on the seats was a pillow and blanket (it was an overnight flight) and we got served supper for FREE it was a choice on chicken or penne i had the chicken it was very good and we also got a banana muffin for breakfast and somthing to drink overall very nice the flight i didnt like was AF a321 the had no recline and the seats were small w no entertainmen

Ok when I take it next, I will compare my service to yours and see whats better. Porter airlines and westjet is lightyears ahead of air canada any day so I probably will end up taking one of those instead unless I dont have any other choice.

@albertabeefcowboy84 Both WestJet and Porter don't do long haul international flights, so you can't really compare to Air Canada on the transatlantic service. For domestic service however, I agree with you.

Yeah, perhaps I should have stated that above. That is what I was referring to when I said I don't like Air Canada. Now with the added cost for baggage at Air Canada, I really will go out of my way to avoid Air Canada and would prefer to take AA or something of equal value.

i remember when on a flight form heathrow to toronto the aircraft was holding short of the runway and i am the kind of guy who panicks about thinking scary thoughts inside my own head and was scared about thinking about the engine failing on takeof and was paranoid by just thinking these thoughts might cause bad luck then the pilot made an announcement and said something and all the crazy thoughts and worry in my head totally vanished. it was as though he had some kind of power that helped me

@presstrigga That's impossible. To hit the Atlantic, it takes at least 2 hours depending which route you are taking. 7 minutes??? It's probably lake Ontario ( it takes about 30 minutes to cross the whole water land.)

Listen before you all start causing social wars with each other. All American Airlines are respected, but even if you have a lot of aircraft compared to Air Canada, you can never outsource the service, crew, handling, and safety to them. Air Canada is a superior airline. If they left Star Alliance, Star Alliance would've gone through the biggest lost in the world.

AIR CANADA murders customer service!!! Like dealing with customer service in INDIA? Have fun. They lost or allowed my tandem bike to be stolen at the Brussels Belgium airport . How can you lose a 70 pound heavy duty case? You can't even get any information on anything despite filling out their claim forms.
Got luggage? Avoid AIR CANADA!!! Customers have NO rights here. Beware!!!

i flew from heatrhow to toronto on air canada then from toronto to vancouver. THat was an amazing couple of flights. I like flying so much i always choose a connection flight rather than a direct flight. I always find it strange remembering being up there months later and remembering the flight makes it seem so special. It's weird remembering being back up there. The memory of it makes it seem like a trip to another land due to the size of the journey

there somethign very special about flying i always find in every long flight east bound. FOr me its the unique feeling of being that high and exposed to more uv rays even though that has its inherent risks. Everytime i look back at my photos of toronto airport of the ground taxiways it reminds me of the straneg sensation on the flight. For me its pleasure combined with fear and the strangeness of being in a pressurized cabin and remembering being up there. Its very weird indeed

@Vekoma1261 Economics I would guess. the 767/777's that have replaced 747's on intercontinental routes have an edge in operating cost. Moreover with greater competition there may not be passenger demand to warrant the larger 747. It's a pity, there has never been a better airliner than Boeing's biggest bird. In three to five years watch for 787's to begin taking over the longer intercontinental routes. A/C has ordered more than three dozen of them.

It's wierd an aircraft can fly around the whole world but only at the expense of not being able to see as much. It gives you an idea how huge this planet is. this planet is so big that no human being can see all of it in their lifetime. its still great but the view is from a different perspective.

@GEORGIOS798 - Yepp, Sounds like a typical Air Canada attitude. Once in Ottawa a check in woman told me that I am holding back the line and should have done self checkin. I looked behind me and nobody was standing there! I know many folks praise A.C but I bet they have nothing to compare it to. I've flown with many many carriers, like Lufthansa, KLM, Northwest, Malev, WizzAir, Air-France, Alitalia, etc and trust me Air Canada is far behind of many when it comes to courteous customer service.

air canada must be losing money. on our flight from toronto to london heathrow we got given a chemiocally flavoured bannana muffin for breakfast and nothing else. the breakfas from london heathrow to toronto was better. FLying was fun for a while but its hassles are becoming more evident. THe flying is fun but airports are not. the worst airport has got to be london heathrow. terminal 3 for air canada is just a mess and is not tidy at all. we found the staff very reluctant to help

I don't mean to sound negative here, but we flew A.C several times and it was a far cry from a pleasant travel experience. The flight is usually in time and the planes are safe, The scheduling is good and the bags almost never get lost.
The issue is with the employees and their attitude. I am not comparing AC to "luxury" carriers like Emirates or Singapore AL, but even a discount Airline like Westjet, EasyJet or WizzAir has friendlier service than AC. This Company needs a staff overhauling.
