"Out in the open" is a misleading title. When describing the crime the reporter omits to mention that Newsome was raped in the house prior to being murdered. The closing remarks by the prosecution( available on online) also state that the body of Newsome was mutilated. Also, the Knox Sheriff who interviewed George Thomas( on of the perps) said that Thomas had stated "I don't care what happened to that white bitch, its none of my business".
