  • I saw this when it first came on and loved it. I had forgotten about it till the mid 90's when I ran across it on some channel one Sunday evening. I got a VHS copy of the movie off ebay a few years ago and have just seen where amazon has it on DVD. However I am sad to say the reviews of the DVD say it sounds like a bad copy :( I wish Disney would remaster and release it as a real DVD

  • I always had a scene from this stuck in my head and could never remember the movie. I always got it confused with Watcher in the woods. I was on Amazon looking at the list of "new" Disney movies they are offering and this one came up, thanks to your review I know it is the one I have been looking for all these years.

  • One of the best forgotten gems from Disney.....for being a PG movie, it scared the hell out of me the first time I saw it when I was 12. Loved it.

  • I have been searching for the name of this movie forever and finally found it on cafemom, Then looked it up here. Have to watch again, to see if I feel the same way as I did watching it as a child.

  • this movie traumatized me as a kid lol. thanks for posting this!

  • @vixenkw Yeah, me too....freaked me out. Dunno why i suddenly looked this up!

  • i loved this movie brought back memories

  • I was 7yrs old and this movie scared the $**t outta me! I cold only remember a blue glass doll. Amazing in this day and age i'm able to find childhood memories instantly.

  • WAKE UP

    watch?v=GYuhcFHmmVc

  • I still have this in the white clam shell VHS case. Slightly tamer than WATCHER IN THE WOODS it had the same vibe as did much of the "get of the house" haunted house movies that came out a decade earlier such as Dan Curtis' BURNT OFFERINGS and DARK SHADOWS. However the Disney movies always had a much more upbeat ending.

  • I loved this movie when I was a kid!!

  • I remember this one.. it was really good when I was a kid, but I haven't seen it on tv in years. There was also a Boogeyman movie made in the 80's I think that I haven't been able to find info on. All I remember is he was in the basement and got sucked into a vacuum too. Oh, and a statue that broke... vaguely remember the mom being possessed. It might be Disney. If anyone knows what I'm talking about please let me know. ;)

  • I loved this movie as a kid!!!! It's really good

  • Oh my gosh I loved this movie. But the book is much better. "The Ghost Was Mine" by Richard Peck. First in a series.

  • can you do a review of "The Watcher In The Woods"?

or did you already do that?

  • I saw this years ago, when I was probably like 7 years old..

A quick google search "girl ghost movie can't remember title" led me to both the title and a copy of it. Awesome.

  • is this in disneys vault

  • I had been searching for this movie for almost 30 years. I think about it all the time. Today my search ended. What is it about this movie that captivates us so much that we can't forget about it 30 years later. I can barely remember my phone number!

  • I saw this during the early 80s on tape. It one of the few really unique Disney movies that do not fit with what is generally a Disney movie today. It a great movie and one they should shame for not having released on DVD.

  • Weeee-ird. I just watched the Little House On The Prairie episode 'Sylvia', and the girl who plays Inez was the same girl who played Sylvia.

  • Perfect!!!!

  • This was my favorite Disney movie when I was a kid and have always remembered the riddle also. I keep hoping they'll release it on DVD one of these days. The copies I have found on the internet have been pretty expensive.

  • I saw this movie the year it came out. The only way I remembered the title now was that I remembered the riddle. That's not right, I can't remember something from last week but I can remember a riddle from a disney film I watched 38 years ago. I hate getting old. lol

  • i miss that movie i haven't seen it in years and would love to see it in dvd form(that is legal)

  • loved this movie when i was a kid.

  • Awesome movie... This has stayed in my memory since i 1st saw it. Probably saw it the year it came out.

  • One of my favourite Disney TV movies. Loved it, loved the riddle. Think I saw this twice as a child....too long since I saw it last. Hope Disney people finally realize that it would be a good thing to release on DVD. I would by it in a moment.

  • I love this movie! I've been looking for it for years, and have given up on it. It was a great movie along with other Disney Movies that I haven't found on DVD.

  • Oh my god!!! I saw this movie like twenty plus years ago on the 'Old Skool Disney Channel'!!! Holy shnikes! Thanks for the memories! I've seen all these movies you have photo stills of at the end, fantastic!

  • Thanks for the review, man, you were right, newer heared about it, but now, interested in watching it!

  • i have been looking to see this movie

    and couldnt figure it out

I do believe its the one with the girl in the well

    thank you

  • is this the movie about the girl in the well? Something about the china doll she had stood out......

  • its more or less a murder mystery taking place in 1970's involving the death of a child that happend 150+ years ago. has ghosts as characters to keep the plot going, very good movie.

  • omg i love that movie..i think it could have been better if they had stuck more with the book...since it was originally based in 1913 and stuff but yeah i still love the movie...amory timmons was fantastic

  • I forgot about this movie! This was ages of ago.

  • this was a staple as a kid!

  • I saw this in elementary school and loved it then. I did try to to get it on dvd with no sucess. However I found it on Amazon on VHS, an old, old, copy :> and it is still in decent condition. I agree with your assessment of this movie its a wonderful little film. Although in slightly in the same vain as Watcher in the Woods I think it is better.

  • that is the WORST french accent that i have ever heard in my entire life

  • It's cajun french, different accent. its a southern type of french

  • I agree this is one of the better disney movies of the late 70's. I saw it in Oct. '78 and it's been a list fave along w/ Escape & Return From Witch Mountain. I agree TreJowy, I had a crush on Olivia Barash(Inez) back then too. She was a superb and multitalented actress then, only doing a few movies and tv spots since.

    Peace

  • I remember it too, i had it when it was on here but the person who had it on had their account suspended. I will not stop untill i find it again

  • This was a great film, and I remember seeing it on Disney's Sunday Night movie in the early 1980's.

  • Count me as another who saw this film many years ago. I've seen it a couple times over the years, but it was always hard to catch. I finally found a copy a while back. Not the best, but perfectly watchable.

  • I saw this movie on TV in the 70's. Love this movie. The scene with the girl singing Frère Jacques is unforgettable.

  • Sweet.

You know. I recall this one being on tv ALL THE TIME! I can't remember if this bugged me because it frightened me or because I was sick of hearing the Frère Jacques song. Surprisingly, thats all I remember other then the well scene. You think a ghost would be memorable.

Thanks for the review and the clips.

  • Somebody actually put the entire movie up on Youtube and I watched the whole thing about 6 months ago or so, but I guess it's gone now for some reason. Great film. Loved it when I was a kid, and I loved Inez too....I wanted to save her myself!

  • Excellent! What a load off my mind, finally finding this movie! I had such a crush on the ghost when I was a kid! lol

  • Hey I remember this! Growing up we were the first ones on the block to have cable -- and the Disney Channel. I thought this movie was cool back in the day!

The coolest part was when the kid found the doll down the well. . . No shit.

  • Yes, what a wonderful movie and a great story as well. "I will not tell you, I will never tell you!"

  • i search for the movie (in GERMAN) so many years!

    can someone help me???

    please!!!!!!!

I really LOVE this movie <3

  • This has always bugged me. I have always remembered a girl on TV singing Fere Jaques to a china doll. I was probably 2 or 3 when I saw this movie. Very cool.. I guess I'm not nuts after all!

  • My Gawd,

    Thank you for posting this.

I sure did hear of this movie. I would have been about six or seven when I saw this movie. I'm pretty sure that I saw it on The Wonderful World Of Disney.

For the longest time I could only remember vague little bits and pieces and it was only recently due to the internet that I was able to 'discover' that this movie actually existed and had a name.

Now if I could only track down a copy.

ps. thanks for the quick review

  • I remember watching this video as a child and it scared me to death. I have had that image of that ghost in my head since then and I forgot all about it until recently. I must watch it again some day.

  • Thanks for taking a look and hope you find the film again.

  • Wow, good review, but this movie blows
