  • met layne back in late 92. seemed to take an instant likin to my mississippi accent.talked and drank for a while.laughed about mississippi and country life.seemed to be having fun. wish i could have stayed in touch w/him (before cell phones)mike mcready is a bad ass guitarist!! the gell of this band is bad ass!!

  • i love stayles beard =)

  • Whether or not this is like Alice in Chains or completely different, I think people miss the whole point. They are a bunch of talented musicians and artists who absolutely love playing together, be it in Alice in Chains, Mad Season, Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dog, Brad, Screaming Trees or whatever carnation it was or still is created. Its something that will always be with me and something that has touched me as a musician is the scene they've created. Past and present

  • layne must of had one of the best screams in rock history

  • Freeking awesome!!! Love it. I miss him big time. One of my top five albums!!

  • mad season and aic are totally different, the lyrical content might have similar topics but its what was going on in his head, u tink u get another band and start tinking different????

  • imagine being there....

  • Bloody hippy music - it sucks

  • @555julianfairbanks please get cancer u asshole. not only r u a douche but a fucking racist ive seen ur comments on black comedian videos and they are fucked up u piece of shit u should have been an abortion.

  • layne was the fuckin shit.... mad season is fucking awesome and i believe so was everything layne touched..... AIC fucking rules and so does Mad season

  • I'm not covering any new ground in regards to Layne, but anyone who can sound this good live , better than the studio version... Perhaps the most unique rock voice ever.

  • Layne Staley, did die too young, but his voice I'll always hear.

  • i lived with him 1997 till 98 in Seattle above the Rainbow bar. The last year of Alice and Chains I would stand stage right on the speaker and dance 4layne

  • @eveliofazewife Nice! My good friend was at his dealers pad,

Layne came by to score, my friend answered the door.

He was like nice hair Layne just gave him the fuck you stare.

  • @skyehoyt1971 Bullshit

  • @nolson4062 crowshit

  • i lived with him 1997 till 98 in Seattle above the Rainbow bar. The last year of Alice and Chains I would stand stage right on the speaker and dance with my best friend Elizabeth..

  • I would amputate a body part just to see Layne live once more. His voice fucking KILLs me

  • What I never got was that Mad Season was an extension from AIC. There didn't seem to be much experiment to it, as one who breaks from their band to preform in another-"why do in another band what you already do in yours?" is my point.

However Im glad anyway because I love this record. Its timeless. ''I don't know anything'' is fucking bad ass. I listen to that shit everyday just to get my evil power full, lol

  • @mike74ny UMMMMMM.....this band is very different from AIC....it's a blend of a few styles of grunge....you hear AIC, Pearl Jam and even some old school Mother Love Bone

  • @salemsdad76 Exactly. Im saying usually theres more experimentation to an artist going outside of his band.

Dont get me wrong though, this record is great! I love it! But it doesn't go far beyond what Lane was already doing is all Im saying. He could of done this with AIC no problem...

  • @mike74ny not musically though.....don't listen to the singing or lyrics.....just focus on the music, totally different from anything AIC had done.....but, I do understand a little bit of what you mean

  • @salemsdad76 you could have 50 different bands playing the same song and they would all sound different playing it. different people in this band created different music from aic

  • @mike74ny i think of madseason as laynes personal feelings on his current state. kind of like how the unplugged show was to nirvanas frontman

  • @mike74ny Old comment i know but, while i agree with you to a point, perhaps Layne couldnt have done quite so much with AiC as we may think. Jerry being a massive driving force behind the band there were bound to be clashes , it just happens like that. Still, all that said, i personally love em all. Cant get enough.

  • @mike74ny you dont know what you talking abt this is so much different than aic mad season is more rock/blues and aic is more rock/metal/grunge but what can i expect from somebody who doesnt even know how to spell laynes name its LAYNE not lane

  • @mike74ny nah man mad season r so differnet from alice in chains, it gave layne a chance to go in a completely different direction and they fucking rocked hard

  • @mike74ny

It isn't about "doing something different than you already do in your own band" all the time, dude. Hell-o...

A prolific songwriter will often have dozens of songs that never get recorded, either because there are other songwriters in the band or because the songs don't pass muster with the other members. And THAT is how side projects and solo careers come to be...

  • see ya in the nxt life!

  • Amazing Quality. Layne will never be forgotten! Great band.

  • this song rocks i love it!!!!!!!!!

  • where did you get this footage??

  • I've always hated double guitars until now.

  • Was a bit mashed in the early 90's myself, but i remember a bloke called Layne Stayley walking onto the stage in the Ulster Hall and saying, "Sorry guys, but im out of my head" and not moving much, 92 i think, tho, it could well of been the 1800.s tho im sure i saw a 2 that year!

Still, the guy blew me away,he didnt move, unless it was to drink water, but that voice will never leave my head, fantastic concert, fantastic voice. Belfast was a good place to be that day :o)

  • nails

  • nails

  • I find that most ppl who bash AIC and Layne to be younger people who werent even in junior high yet when Layne died. I saw AIC twice and mad season once. hell i even saw nirvana after In Utero.....just because the bands now mostly blow..ya dont have to hate on Layne. R.I.P. Layne Staley

  • @NeckbrokeJamez I'm 16 and I feel a bit ofended by what you said. You make it sound like every kid my age listen to pop...

I love grunge, classic rock, alternative rock, hard rock, blues, country and my friends also listen to this.

The only bands I listen to that are still active are The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Wolfmother, and a few others...yeah only a few bands are good nowadays

So don't think that all teenagers listen to the shit that's popular now, many teens love this kind of music

  • @TheBeckManiac Agreed. I'm 16 as well, and sure, lots of people at my school listen to terrible music. But AIC is my favorite band and has been for many years. Glad you posted that comment.

  • @NeckbrokeJamez I was 12 when Layne Staley died. Didn't really even know about AIC at the time, but now I love 'em.

  • @NeckbrokeJamez

Yeah... Strangely enough, I don't see many of these green peas (e.g., born in 1995; never knew a world w/o YouTube, etc.) listening to anything recorded prior to their own birth! Its like some kind of neo-narcissism, or something. When I was a teenager, I soaked up everything, especially the classic stuff like the Doors, the Stones, the Who, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix...the list goes on. I simply will never understand this new one-dimensionalism

  • Anyone who bashes layne Staley is a fucking moron! He was the real deal! Or Jerry for that matter. Maybe these "bashers " should get up there and "give er". Probly fucking can't eh???? Didn't think so!!!! Why don't you all go bash Robert Plant?, fuckin can't either eh??? Go bash your selves!!!!

  • Did Layne ever have the pipes or what. RIP Layne.

  • thats lane stayly

  • LOL, Cobain was not that different. It was then, and still is now, only about the music. Performing gets really old and boring after a while. Sometimes the crowd will phyc you up, but you want stage entertainment, go watch your New Kids on the Block VHS tapes.

  • with a voice like that that i couldnt give two shits about stage presence...though thats kinda how it goes when you can barely stand up, lotta those guys have a definate fuck all morrison vibe

  • Dude, you must of been seeing them in the later years. From the start of AIC to 1993 Layne NEVER stood in one place like he did in '94 to '96.

Layne would be EVERYWHERE on the stage, and I mean everywhere! Even jumping in the crowd! I don't know where the hell you got that, but that was just plain foolish! No offense.

  • @RammsteinMann13 "Must of been"?? Must HAVE been! For fucks sake. I cringe every time I see that. How the hell can people write that without seeing that it's wrong? It doesn't even make sense to have "of" there at all!

  • @OniJsF

    Sorry about that, lol

My English seems to fail me from time to time.

  • @RammsteinMann13 Hahah, I'm sorry too. I think it was the fifth time I saw that spelling error in ten minutes in various places so it just had to come out.

  • @RammsteinMann13 uhhh dude/chick, idk who you're talking to, but you just apologized for saying someone is "foolish." that's not how youtube commenting works, friend ;)

  • Shut up

  • @Cuahetemoc1

well, with the kind of dope he could probably get, who wouldn't wanna be jammed on the floor?

  • this whole album is awesome. front to back. anyone know what the rest of this band is doing now. please reply back to me if anyone knows.

  • @ref103 yea layne is dead mark lanagon is a solo artist and mike mcready is still with pearl jam

  • they broke up following the bassist's death

  • The bass is ridiculous!!! Epic! Rip John B. Saunders!

  • Whoaaa(:

Amazing, and I love Layne's look!

  • Yeah darknes7800, he seemed to go downhill extremely quickly

After 96' he became a major recluse, but if you search the web there's a candid pic 2 fans took with him on the street during a rare time he left his condo, dated late 99'.

He looks horrible in that pic. No "meat" on his face what-so-ever, just that skeletal look you see on 90 year olds. He looked happy in the pic though. Huge smile on his face an had all his front teeth still, just very brown, like they were starting to rot.

  • Comment removed

  • @Abasuto

do u gota link to this pic dude?

or any sort of info to where i can find it?

  • Could you send me the URL or link to that photo...Ive seen tons of photos but didnt find the one from 99. Thanks!!!

  • Layne sound great!!!!!! I was just watching videos of his last live show with AIC in 1996. Its amazing how weak and frail he became from 94 to 96. BTW, most of the Rubio book has been ruled BS.......RIP LAYNE RIP........

  • whats the rubio book?

  • The writers name is Adriana Rubio and the book it Layne Staley, Angry Chair. I have not read the book, but most reviews on Amazon are highly critical that is reads like an obsessed fan..not the facts. It also contains a much repeated, but never verified phone interview with Layne 2-3 months before he passed. Where she wrote that Layne said "Dont try to contact the other members of AIC, they arent my friends". I disagree that he said that to her, as it is the only place the comment shows up.

  • ok thanks

  • @darknes7800 She actually wrote an updated version of the book called Get Born Again.

I disagree with you about your characterization of the book as being an obsessed fan. It reads like a really good biography.

  • @darknes7800 You sure talk a lot about a book you've never read.

  • @jmelkis _IMO, looking at 200-300 people who have read a book gives a much better cross section review, than the interpetation of a single reader, because everyone has a differing opinion.

  • @darknes7800 Sure, that might make sense if you are thinking about buying the book or not. But it doesn't give you the right to spout off about things you know nothing about.

  • @jmelkis _ The reviews are posted by HUGE AIC fans who bought the book and they are the best source of an aggregate review...much better than a single reviewer! You dont like it because it differs from your take on the book, but one glaring point still stands out...the Staley family pulled their support after it was published. Simply put, the world knows more today about Layne and his life and death, than what Rubio (with all her "research") wrote in her book!! LOL

  • @darknes7800 LOL!! They don't like it because they don't like what it said about them. More importantly, they don't like what Layne said about them himself in his final interview. It's like looking into a mirror, and you don't like what you see. Unlike you, I've read the book, and I can tell you that there is no way that Rubio could've made that shit up. If you choose not to believe me, that's fine. But don't pretend to know something you know nothing about.....

  • @jmelkis That is to say, don't pretend to understand a book you haven't even read.

  • @jmelkis Let's face it, the truth hurts....

  • @jmelkis LMAO!!!!!!!!! Now you pretend to "know" exactly what the readers are thinking, aren't you doing exactly what you accuse me of??? Anyway, the review comments do not specifically speak to Laynes last words, only that the book is poorly written and full of BS that has been discounted by Layne's own family (which I have read in other articles).

  • @darknes7800 Laughmyfuckingassoffuntilithurts!!!:-):-):-):Dhahahahahahahahaha

Again, speak of which you know nothing!

This mentality of speaking of which you know nothing about is what led to Layne being trashed so much by people....

Say what you will in response. I no longer care.

  • I´m so proud, Barret Martin accepted me as a friend in his facebook, and Adriana Rubio also did (adriana was the only person Layne talked with in his last months, she wrote 2 books about him)

  • all right all ready but some would like to peep in that page of fecebopok, otherwise , nobody is interested un your gay`` s love affairs, ok?

  • ok be cool, no ofenses! I was happy and wanted to share. Anyways adriana told me to buy her books, nothing more. It´s just a dark part of me that wants to know bout his last days, before he died.

  • @FrankMustaine hey who is adriana rubio? also barrett martin wat is his facebook i would love to ask these people ?? about layne staley.

  • ok search for them in facebook, you can say to barret you admire him from mad season era, etc; he will surely admit you. good luck. And adriana rubio has a page on the net where she sells her books on cd.

  • is this before AIC or was he in two band at once? can someone please school me! thanx

  • Nah man this is pearl jam and screaing trees with layne singing formed in 1994. Alice formed in the 80s.

  • He was in this band while AIC was on hiatus in '95

  • thanx dude!

  • Perfect example of an artist doing what he loved.... thank you Layne. May God bless you with the peace you so richly deserve.

  • LAYNE = LEGEND

Mad Season's ABOVE album is EPIC 'Must Have!!!'

RIP Layne - Thanks for the music!

  • fucking awesome. layne's voice was so unique. Such a talent. I miss him more after hearing this. Thanks for the post!

  • Mike Mcready from pearl jam on guitar. ohhh what. nice

  • Rest in peace Layne.....this was one of my favorit singers. Too bad such a talent, wasted in drugs....

  • what year was this show

  • 1995 :)

  • might just be my favorite band.

  • MAD SEASON IS THE SHIT!!!

    it stands alone!

  • First off awesome band. Great combination of band members.

I just have a question. And I'll probably get thumbs down for taking up for the weak, but who thumbs down people that asks questions about band members? Too bad everyone isn't an all knowing douche bag. I mean cut them some slack jeaze.

  • u just raped geez

  • oh my god, yes! yes!!!! that looks more orgasmic than it sounded in my head.

  • the drummer is bad ass lol. Excellent group.

    Great singer

    Great guitar

    Great Bass

    Great Drums

  • the one with the double guitar is Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, the bass player was John Baker Saunders

  • The one who is the bass player is the one who is holding the bass.. makes a bit of sense, eh?

  • lifeless dead

  • you heard wrong

  • thank you ,you are right fucking drugs..such a loss damn good band

  • fuck i wish i could been there to see madseason perform..

  • No matter what Layne does in he´s private life... he was a GREAT singer... has a beatifull and unique voice... all my love and respect for him... R.I.P. Layne!!!

  • Love the demon sign at 1.17

  • one of the best voices in music history!

  • I have the old VHS tape of this show, it would be a crime if it never gets released on DVD, if my memory is correct that bass player died of an overdose

  • yeahe died before layne i think

  • mmhmm him and layne staley

  • LAYNE = GENIUS

  • layne is a genius.

by the way. The Moore is in Seatle right?

  • yeh its in seattle

i dont know how i know,

    im from dublin lol

    listen to 1:26-1:30

    that is super human

  • He's wearing the long sleeves and gloves to hide the track marks..

  • Genius

  • Layne sounds amazing here. I think he's clean around this time.

  • Did you give me a negative?????? Just because I said that he looks clean. What the fuck is that about. Do your fucking history. Layne was an addict yes. But he did have periods where he would go to rehab. And being a huge fan of Layne I can see that he is pretty healthy looking here compared to other performances. Next time do some research- because your stupid comments have really fucked me off big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i read that he was in rehab at this period but also that this is his last concert, how's that sound? If he gone better maybe he could do more.. anyway i shared what i know if am mistaken its fine you enlight me and i learn the truth :)

  • This show is from April 29th, 1995. This was his last show for Mad Season. But Laynes final show came over a year later July 1996 with AIC.

  • Are you sure? I thought the last show was in either 2001 or 2002. Remember he didn't die until 2002.

  • No Not at all. Staley remained unactive in a live show for the next 6 years. This was it. Then for ALICE IN CHAINS. July 3rd, 1996. That's all folks

  • R.I.P. Layne Staley

  • Yep McCready and Staley ...good shit... good combo... RIP Layne....AIC is not the same..

  • WOW!!!! R.I.P Layne

  • hell yeah, we miss you brother, you continue to inspire, gone but not forgotten

  • McCready and Staley forever! I'll listen to this shit until I die.

  • Amazing live performance! Layne's in rough shape here... but man... he's still a fucking badass!

  • Layne reminds me of Hyde from That 70's show

  • 2-18-2009 and Im still listening to you Layne... You Are soo F-ing missed brother...One of the Best if not the Best..

  • Nor did i? i thought she said yes cause if you look at most of the AIC vids he has a wedding band on his ring finger on his left hand...

on Wikipedia it said that during this concert he looked really bad but i think he looks good for the confidtion he was in :(

    RIP

  • youre actually right because for awhile they were engaged. what i dont know though is if they were until she died or they broke it off before then.

  • they had broke up before she had died

  • My god I NEED this in mp3 format!!! My favorite live performance hands down!

  • layne lives on through the music!

  • Jesus Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this performance is wat makes life great

  • soft drugs are cool, none of that hard stuff! it will get ya|!

  • lol, no such thing as soft drugs.

trust me. i know first hand.

  • that is correct man, i know as well

  • man that 12 string gibson sounds fookin amazin

  • This album is pretty good, this is one of my favorites on it

Song's definitely about Demri, Mad Season came out right after she turned his marriage proposal down

it broke his heart and basically killed him after she died in '96

    RIP Layne

  • I never knew she denied his proposal...

  • not so much, drugs killed layne

  • Ofcourse, but he became totally isolated from the world after her dead. He started using even more drugs. With her close to him for some more years, he might've stopped using and would still be alive today...

His story is so sad... Just look up some of his last interviews. He felt miserable all day long, shitted his pants, took some more drugs and shitted his pants again. His friends wouldn't see him anymore...

The AiC lyrics were dark, yet the darkest times for Layne still had to come. RIP

  • Staley R.I.P

    You are missed

  • porque chucha siempre comentan los gringos estos videos...cabros no seamos pajeros...jajajaj

    grande staley.

  • i like how this sounds way more then the studio recording, Layne Staley does not need any studio enhancements, his voice was so awesome, stupid drugs

    RIP Layne Staley

  • Shit The Moore Has So Much Fuckin History There

I saw Social Distortion there its a bad ass fuckin place

  • Mad Season is too good!

  • by far my favorite mad season song.

layne sounds phenomenal in this one.

  • Man! Stanely's vocals are incredible.

  • Stayley, and yes your correct.

    His music is incredible!!

  • Staley

  • Its actually Staley, not stanely and not stayley.

  • Your right!

  • ther God like ;]

  • "Above" is probably one of the best albums ever.

  • layne did write all lyrics for madseason

  • Did Layne write any songs for Mad Season?

  • I believe he wrote all lyrics. I remember reading that.

  • thx

  • Long gone day i think was wrote by mark lanagon.

    srry for my grammer

  • i think every alice in chains fan should hear mad season. from memory i actually heard this band before i was introduced alice in chains. had no clue what the band was called at the time. so then i got into aic and explored laynes personality and career. then i found this long lost band. i ran right to best buy the next day and bought mad season's above. long live laynes legacy(lol 4 l's in a row)

  • coldfire, lucid comment.

  • people, you don't know English? Look it up, for crying out loud!

  • his voice was in shape tough

  • During all his Mad Season performances, he just seems to drained of energy....

  • drained of energy??? check him out on the mtv unplugged with aic, now that's wat drained looks like...
