@PennyDreadful1 Well, then Doro wins as when Anneke started singing in The Gathering, the band was a totally diferent genre. No longer Doom/Death but a Doomy sort of Gothic. Nevertheless, the genre they started developing is more melancholic than before, somewhat unique, brilliant.

@Solitudinis Wins? I meant that this song and this album(mandylion) is old school symphonic female fronted metal. A forerunner to bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation After forever and so on. When people think chick metal they tend to think of bands like that. Maybe I sould have been more specific.

I really enjoy the first The Gathering album. Long time ago... Anneke is a nice singer? Yes, she is, but she isn't a metal singer... that's why I cry for the days when metal has rules... 80's, of course...

Have been following them since half 90's. They were great back then. As expected, they have improved. Anneke has come a long way. I remember her being shy and standing behind a pillar, but still singing great.

Have been following them since halfway 1995 as well - right after they released Mandylion.

For me, the Gathering died after How to Measure a Planet .. They stopped being Metal and started being soft synth-pop.

But this song .. Yeah. This is a rock icon. This is the very song that made a Metalhead of me.

The Gathering have always been fairly prog to me. I love all their albums with Anneke, but being the metalhead that I am, Mandylion is a top favourite of mine. With any prog band you're not always going to expect what they put out next.
