Ionic order (ιωνικός ρυθμός) @ 03:20. When fashion and architecture devolves into fascism, style lapses and people tend to look too much alike. Note the Astroturf Family @ 02:40. Just a casual observation & another day at the mall ...
Life=odd. When I heard this, it was UK north folk. Special heads, damn special music and too many memories. Industrial city. England. The shop vilnyl, had the inches, big display on the wall. Next to George H and The Fall. And The Smtihs. Greek version was James Dean, in pink. And my dream was buying these sounds. And DB made it all true. If my grand-father suffered on European battlefields, then thank-you for the sound.
@sxpression= Her name is Annie McEnroe. Wikipedia has no information about her. She was in Beetlejuice as the lady who gives Lydia the skeleton key. And she was seen last year in Wall Street: Money never sleeps.
My husband didn't like Byrne's attitude in this film, thought poked fun at small towns. But I thought it was a loving look at all of America---strip-malls and developments, families and love. I thought it was gentle and even admiring: "Look at this...who's to say it isn't beautiful? Hope...love.....satisfaction..." The book contains deleted scenes, and one is a poem: "We are not afraid / We are wathing it and doing it at the same time / And the family really IS the center of the world".
"Part Two / This is Part Two / I am singing in my sleep / Is everybody ready? / Ok? / Let's go." Luis Fine thinks this poem as he finally marries. It's the most wonderful thing Byrne ever wrote--powerful, elegiac, courageous and optimistic. It's also the thing I thought of when I heard how the Shanksville plane went down on 9/11.
I love this scene so much. One of my favorites in the whole movie... I also love the part where they play with food at the dinner table, and the big show at the end, and of course "Wild Wild Life"... but this is soooooooo beautiful. And also hilarious. All at once. David Byrne's "Mm!" at 3:25 makes me crack up.
I wrote this somewhere tonight somewhere on these postings. I got blessed when I found a DVD of True Stories. It was on clearance for about $3.00 uSA. And the last one or I would have bought them both. A great favorite in this movie is when Mr. Spalding Gray tells of the people God created that loved the rocky left over creation named Texas. She who plays from Texas.
I only recently understood how to buy this from ITunes. I bought True Stories on vinyl in 1988. At that time, my dad used to beat the shit out of me. This music was everything to me. Of course, I always wished I was bigger. And they opened a huge shopping centre, like this, not far away. I could never buy David B`s vinyl there.
I`m not a big guy, physically, even now. But I`m a decent fella. Thank God for the memories and the music. Even now, I am a dream op.
I got the re-recorded True Stories album just lastnight (The one where all the tracks are done by Talking Heads). It's really good, but I ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY need to get the film version (If it's still possible to buy it). Dream Operator and City Of Dreams are the definition of what music should be.
The idea for this scene came from "Fellini's ROMA" (1972). To see it on YouTube, search "fellini roma fashion show". The complete one is 9:51 minutes. DON'T MISS IT!
two version of this and the other songs exist-the talking head record of these songs and the cast recording of the songs in the movie. very rare to get either one now a days on cassette or CD.
This scene was filmed at NorthPark Center in Dallas, Texas, which is a beautiful 1960s shopping mall (that may seem like an oxymoron, but it's true...) Much of the movie was shot on location in Texas.
In my teens, in northern England - there were The Smiths, and there was Byrne, Frantz, Weymouth (nice coastal town) and Harrison. They made me very happy. Now, it's so good, I could shed a tear. Actually, I will do, in private. Top quality material, everything about it.
I'd love to own a copy of this exact version of the song.
This song's surreality is magic and natural, sort of like a song before you completely understand its lyrics. This one will remain elusive for a while.
i think david lynch took inspiration from this video for his t.v. series "twin peaks",the red curtain and the breathy vocals, and the dreamlike quality to it.anyone else agree/
I bought this movie on DVD at K-Mart for $7.99. In K-Mart you can find all sorts of things!

David Byrne is a genius. True Stories was one of the best indie movies ever made.
This song is so touching, and soft. Her voice is a beautiful whisper she sings so haunting and lovely.
It reminds me of a mom singing it to her child, you dreamed me a heart, brings a tear every time. Simply Exquisite..
