First time I've seen Ms. King on video also; she lived in my hometown of Malden, Ma., I believe. Amazing singer! Tragic that she passed away so young.
Teddi was an acting singer, that is, she portrayed a character and told a story in each song, like presenting a three-act play Few singers at the time did that and, of course, it is the key to what Barbra Streisand did. Teddi's crystal voice and impeccable musicianship should have won a wider audience, but she never got on the label she needed to be with, namely Capitol.
A great singer who had the misfortune of being on RCA, a label which never at any point had a clue as to how to plan albums with distinctive themes, imaginative titles, creative cover art and then how to promote the artist and the product. The list of lady singers done wrong by RCA is long, long, long.
It's a shame that more people don't know about this wonderful singer and her brief life. I have some of her recordings (always looking for more) but had never seen her perform until I saw this video. Wow! Very impressive. I hope there is more video out there in the world and that it will be posted.
Greenuptime's response expressed my exact thoughts, quite uncanilly, as I watched Teddi King for the very first time. Having tracked down almost everything she every recorded (I think), I can only echo the request to please, please, post more of one of the most under appreciated vocalists of her time. The word rarity is bandied about a lot on youtube, but in this instance you really have struck gold.
Thanks, JVF, for the time and effort involved in giving us a glimpse of this lady in her vocal prime. I only have some of the last and posthumous recordings, and they're wondrous enough (love her "This Is New"). But this clip is a wonderful surprise, and lets you get an idea of the force she could wield with her voice without breaking a sweat.
THANK YOU for posting Teddi King on YouTube! I have been patiently waiting for her to appear. I believe that I own everything she recorded, but have never actually SEEN her singing. What a treat to watch her in action. Don't you have any more you could post???
I have perhaps one or two others only, which I will get to eventually. I hasve quite a few singers I want to upload, which is a time-consuming process to isolate, convert to avi & than upload; and I have quite a few other music activities I'm committed to. Glad you enjoyed it.
One of my favorite singers! So great to see her here.

@DazzledNessieCullen Yeah the 1920s were cool. The decade of this video, the 1950s, was nice as well. ;^P

What a stunning voice! Great control, something today's singers should take note of.
