  • I thought it was foreign when I saw the FFO,

until I saw TUPNI on the back.

  • what speed are you playing the tape? 15ips?

  • OMG!!! That is great! My father has a old system I guess you can say from 1970. He's go a Akai Super Delux 1800-X with the Cross Field & 8-Track Player on the side of the system. It's amazing what you did with this reel to reel tape recorder! :-) that is awsome sounding. I never thought you could do something like that with it. nice work! :-)

  • Hi, this is inspiring, as I'm trying to do something similar! Have you simply MOVED the original PLAYBACK head to a new location, further from the record head?

  • so the new heads are just bolted down? Are they straight to an output jack? and what kind of mixer is that?

  • insane...thanks for posting!

  • ok tell me now. how do you add the extra head to thin type of Webcor? please respond!!!

  • thanks man, im finding this stuff really useful for understanding tape delays for an essay im writing. I've created made something with a similar sound digitally using a single delay with an eq which is fed back on itself, but it just doesnt compare to this! :)

  • I made something similar some 25 years ago. I used an old mono Webcor machine and added electronics from a scrapped 8-track machine (second head/playback electronics). I could mix some of the output back into the record input for repeats, etc. Also I made a wooden arm that the second tape head mounted on that pivoted. It was driven back and forth from an arm going to an eccentric mounted to the top of the capstan to get some wicked chorus sounds.

  • why is you video backwards?

  • Now how would you get a single delay like the old sun records?

  • I've got one of these recorders for sale. If interested g3502001@yahoo.com put webcor in message header.

  • I love this thing, it sounds amazing. I thinking the same thing might be possible with some old cassette players/recorders by building a new head inside a cassette. I'll be keeping a keen eye out for some old reel to reel stuff after watching this though, Cheers.

  • but how is the new head routed to the mixer.

    thanks for another sweet vid

  • Is this what Les Paul did with a Wollensak 1500?

  • les paul used an ampex 350.

  • Very neat.

  • Why is the video backwards?!

  • How do you only get one echo from it then?

  • Hi Man;

Originally, is it a 3 head recorder? How did you install the new recording head to it?

    Thanks

  • originally it is a 2 head recorder. I found an empty spot after the record head and screwed it down. I hope to eventually get the head to be moveable.

  • Funny stuff, many are wondering how you done that without adding electronics to the third head, i will try & get my tech to do this to an old Philips machine i have, maybe best to start with a 3 head machine & add a pitch control... great upload!

  • Very good video it is!

I just have a question: Where does the sound come from, i. e. which head do you connect to the amplifier from which the final sound comes from? Is it the recording head? In other words what is the final output?

  • the sound comes from the Existing Play/Record Head

  • wow, those noises are sort of scary.

  • Awesome video :)

Just wondering how you connected the additional play head to the jack... is it simply connected directly via speaker cable, or is the head connected to its 'original' circuit board and then to the jack? Cheers, G

  • it is simply connected directly via shielded wire... Hope this helps!! thanks for watching!

  • Muchos gracias :)

  • It doesn't need any extra circuitry?

  • there is something magical about old tape delay isn't there

  • It sounds magical enough to me.

  • can i do something similar to a walkman? answer please.

  • is the best, and it beats digital*

  • thank you!

yea this will do, vintage analog delay is the beats digital which is so fake, this will be good for the band
