Whaaaat~~? It's Gilles Simon. He's a good player but it's not worth posting a video about Federer reacting to this somewhat awesome point which is inferior to what he has done before... Unforgettable reaction my ass.
@italkcrab the reaction wasn't bcuz of simon... it was bcuz of the situation.. imagine you're the defending champion of the tournament and in the SECOND ROUND you're beeing pushed to a 5th set, 5th game without any breaks of serve, then you have your 1st oportunity and somehow you manage to turn that point arround and make it... now you are the one with all the chances to win the match.. i agree with you that isn't worth to say UNFORGETTABLE REACTION but it was a great match overall :P
Amazed at the amount of 'obsessive' tennis fans there are, almost as bad a footie ! sheeesh, there is a life outside of the sport guys....come on now !
What Rog expresses is controlled emotion. He was very emotional as a young player and would get angry and verbal and was told by his coach to stop it. He did and it made him a better player. Too much emotion is distracting; they have to stay focused.
The most epic reaction of Federer after a match, was when he defeated Igor Andreev at the 2008 U.S. Open eightfinals... I suggest everyone to go and see it... completely emotional...
my skin started to act weird when I saw it the first time ... another epic reaction from Roger was at the end of the 2011 Roland Garros Semi-final against Djokovic with the index finger pointed up (like I'M THE BEST ! F*CK THE REST !), with a evil smile on his face, ending with a massive YELL ! :D same reaction from me ;)
Roger rarely gets the praise that he deserves for it, but the fact is that he's just as much of a fighter as anyone else out there. The only difference between him and players like Hewitt and Rafa is that he generally lets his racquet do the talking, rather than his showing of emotions on-court during matches...
the last time i see this reaction of federer, it was against nadal in the final of Wimbledon, i dont remember the year, but it was during a tie break, 1st or 2nd set, 2nd i think :O
I remember I started watching this match at the beginning of the third set, and as Federer was 2 sets up I really thought it would end quickly and.... Well, lots of emotions in that match!
@Moddick2 Its an unforgettable reaction because compare to every other top 10 player you rarely see Federer show emotions and thats why. With the likes of Nadal, Djokovic and Murray they display such reactions in every single match they play.
I don't think Nadal's reactions when he wins big points are natural, as Federer's reaction is here. In fact it rather seems he's learned a routine, a protocol he was tutored into by his mentors -it's the same little routine all the time: he brings up his knee and pumps his fist in the air...It's really contrived and quite unnatural. Presumably he was taught this little ritual because he was too repressed to express a winning vibe naturally. Ivanovic does it too...
You are right, seems we're two in the world. they just can't see it and the reason appears to be they're looking at the world with preconceived notions. They simply go 'OF COURSE Nadal is very expressive emotionally', and then they see what they want to see.
@suddenlyitsobvious i just find it ironic since fed is a passionate person with a lot of emotions but had to limit those emotions on court b/c they interfered with his performance. thank goodness he did. it would've been a shame if rf never realized his full potential. now nadal is not so intense in real life, but on court he gets super hyped and pumped. not so much anymore. rarely as a matter of fact. i just find your whole statement COMPLETELY ironic int that regard.
I don't think there's anything about my comments that can be understood to be 'ironic'. They're either true or false. And it is simply a fact of life that Nadal's reaction to points he considers important consists of that routine I mentioned and that is always the same, meaning NOT spontaneous or natural but a preprogrammed, learned behaviour, suitable for that particular occasion...
@suddenlyitsobvious lol, if you say so. watch?v=O5LRj9z07lA. now i've been following both federer and nadal for YEARS, and i think it's one thing to say his reactions are over the top (different strokes, different folks), but to say they're contrived or routine...i mean, i can't help but laugh. HARD. and the irony is that federer is the one who's reaction is unnatural. he's naturally very emotional, but he holds that in check so it won't compromise his performance on court. r u sure u're a fan?
Well, I did watch it and it's true he's being particularly happy about this point here, in a match that took place 5 YEARS AGO. Even so I find there appears to be a subtle disconnect between Nadal's emotional feelings and the way they are expressed. Even in the particular vid there's simply something contrived about in his gestures that simply doesn't compare with Fed's direct, instinctual reactions.
You say you've been following Nadal and Fed for years. So? The majority of...
...people posting on tennis threads have, or at least, certainly a big proportion.
Unfortunate you start confusing the issue with your statement:
'and the irony is that federer is the one who's reaction is unnatural. he's naturally very emotional'
You are here confusing 'natural' with 'habitual', or 'normal', meaning you consider Fed's behaviour 'unnatural' because he doesn't often or usually display it.
However, what was obviously being covered by this term 'natural'...
...is that it was a direct translation from his emotions into behaviour, in animal-like fashion, it came from within.
Whether Fed does it often is irrelevant to the issue under discussion and I procure to non't letting my assesments and discernment be influenced by such issues as whether or not I'm 'a fan'.
I'm looking at the dynamics taking place, not too preoccupied with creating imaginary scenario's.
@suddenlyitsobvious your attempts at sounding smart have lost me. at any rate, you think what you think and that's great. i still find your statement ironic, but i'm not trying to change your mind. merely making an observation. good luck!
Attempt at sounding smart? Or maybe it's quite the contrary: YOU are attempting to do so, using the word 'ironic', without understanding its meaning.
I think you shouldn't give up this easily.
You have a problem with the term 'natural/unnatural' and with 'ironic'. Just fix that problem and my main observation should be quite intelligible. Good luck also!
@suddenlyitsobvious i'm not giving up. these youtube debates are pointless. you say your thing, i say mine, we dance in circles for as long as we're both willing to keep responding. pointless! as for my point...i stick to it. the def of irony: "The expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite..." i made an observation, you disagreed. cool. it's too hot where i am to give another moments thought on this issue tbh.
'it's too hot where i am to give another moments thought on this issue tbh.'
Meaning you just think what you think and say whatever you say without caring whatsoever or even understanding what is being said to you.
Sure, the point is not crucially important and there are certainly more important things going on in the world. However, if you could simply bring yourself to understand SIMPLE things being communicated to you, there would have been no need for spend...
YOU react to my post, and then simply don't understand what is being said back to you. It is a bit easy to say debates are pointless and going around in circles, when you simply don't have the ATTENTION SPAN to listen to people you are addressing.
Bottom line is you repeat what you've HEARD about Nadal & Fed dealing with emotions, but YOU YOURSELF cannot recognize, cannot discern the difference between REAL emotions and A SHOW.
@suddenlyitsobvious i didn't say debates are pointless. i said youtube debates are pointless. see? my point proven already. i credit everyone for having reading comprehension skills when most times, they don't. bottom line, we don't know either player personally, so all we have are opinions based on our subjective observations. assumptions. u assume what you've observed is correct and as such, you presume that i can't discern between ~emotion and A SHOW or i don't ~understand! lol, cool!
Everything's subjective so nothing's true is obviously what you believe. You don't realize that beyond our subjective views lies an accurate perception, or an erroneous one, or anything in between.
Don't give up on truth ghlover, there actually is such a thing and our minds are equipped to get there and grasp it through the kind of mindwork you're not too interested in, apparently because it's always very warm wherever you live.
@suddenlyitsobvious nyc to be exact, and yeah. it's 90+ degrees. 100+ in the sun. i thought of a response, it sounded good, but i'm not gonna get into a philosophical debate about perception or the subjective nature of "truth." too hot, don't care anymore, whatever. off to see transformers 3 and hope it's not a waste of my time. good luck.
he think he got the match when he is 2 sets love thats what gave simon confidance and played well and rog should be careful or next time he will lose and he dont need this losts specially in this round and in this tournment while he is defending champion and need to defend it to have so he can have chance to be no 1 again to break sampras record
@jdub81sbm u know im federer fan but that doesnt mean i always have to say good job rog or i love u or u r the best or stuff like that.there is something wrong with him in this tournment.by the way there is records for sampras rog didnt beat yet.rog is one week short from sampras record for beeing number one which is 286 rog is 285.and sampras won 7 wimbledon rog is 6.sampras and rog have 5 us open and world tour finals.and rog should win over 20 grand slams so he can maybe secure the record
@jdub81sbm rog should win over 20 grand slams so he can maybe secure the record coz nadal is getting close and he is young while rog losing stupid losts to del potro ,berdyach, soderling in the slams and with djokovic in us while he had 3 match points and he is getting old ...
@UMARWY the losses against delpo, berdych and soderling weren't stupid.
they just played better that day. ok, maybe fed should've never lost the second set in the final of the us open against delpo, but it kind of cancels out because delpo should've never lost to fed in the semis of the french that year
@NiggeliNG he is defending champion and need to defend this title to stay close to nadal untill the clay season coz if he lose before the final and nadal wins nadal gonna be no one and away ahead from federer like 5000 points and federer dont seem to care about clay season coz he not gonna play monte carlo and i dont think he ever would beat nadal in roland garros coz he just dont have nadal strengh in clay....if he dont win ao 2011 i doubt he would get back as no 1 again coz he is old
@SuperBenLinus We can't say Roger Federer is the greatest of all time. Each time reveals it's genius : Borg, Mc Enroe, Becker, Agassi, Sampras, Nadal, etc... Roger Feder is a fabulous tennis player, but he's not perfect.
@SuperBenLinus Even Federer doesn't say he's the best. You can say that he holds the most grand slams and other achievements, but who knows, someone who's more talented than Roger can show up in the future. Then someone else who's better than that someone else. That's one of the reasons why I find Tennis to be so entertaining. It's a progression of amazing players, each bringing something new to the sport.
@4Ventus Totally agree, you´re the first person I read who´s not saying past players were better, or that present players are superior, or that rackets and technology blah, blah, blah. Tennis as any other discipline is about evolution, and every single contribution is crucial to the sport.
wtf?

@UMARWY the losses against delpo, berdych and soderling weren't stupid.
they just played better that day. ok, maybe fed should've never lost the second set in the final of the us open against delpo, but it kind of cancels out because delpo should've never lost to fed in the semis of the french that year

@jdub81sbm weeks as nr 1.
rog (285) is one behind pete (286)

@UMARWY rog doesn't need this title so badly for getting back to nr 1.
after the AO he has much fewer points to defend than rafa, especially from the the clay court season to wimbledon.
NiggeliNG 1 year ago
@NiggeliNG he is defending champion and need to defend this title to stay close to nadal untill the clay season coz if he lose before the final and nadal wins nadal gonna be no one and away ahead from federer like 5000 points and federer dont seem to care about clay season coz he not gonna play monte carlo and i dont think he ever would beat nadal in roland garros coz he just dont have nadal strengh in clay....if he dont win ao 2011 i doubt he would get back as no 1 again coz he is old

@UMARWY who says that nadal wins the title if rog doesn't?
they aren't the only players left in the draw

The greatest of all time....

@SuperBenLinus We can't say Roger Federer is the greatest of all time. Each time reveals it's genius : Borg, Mc Enroe, Becker, Agassi, Sampras, Nadal, etc... Roger Feder is a fabulous tennis player, but he's not perfect.

@Polyteeke We can't say?? who are you? Comparing Roger with your list is just a complete joke.. if he's not pefect, who is!!!
SuperBenLinus 4 months ago
