  • thumbs up if you're in a down blue situation.

  • meravigliosa!

  • This is Music for smart lonely men.

  • He would not perform unless the audience was quiet.. We waited for hours to hear him, always late, tthus the hush finger... and when he played, he broke away from the melody and improvised... you could hear a pin drop... all eyes on me.

Generique..... can you hear is words? his notes are subliminal... but everyone can relate.....

"You walked out... there were good times.... I am lonely here.... you walked out... it's over..."

  • This song haunts me & evey time I listen to it, I get a sudden feeling of sadness & joy all @ the same time. Its kinda bitter sweet & I LUV IT!

  • @GeorgeC1992 Listen to Flamenco Sketches. Amazing.

  • Great music! RIP Miles. You music sure does provoke thought and feeling! I wish I knew of you when you were alive! But at-least your breath and soul lives on through your Smokey dimly lit music of a timeless era of no expiration.

  • thumbs up if you know what movie this is from

  • This is a piece that must be *savored*! Just close your eyes and let your mind drift back to the Twenties, late at night in a smoke-filled club, just before lights out.

    Mmmm-Mm, sweet, sweet music. :8)

  • same question as GeorgeC1992 for me!

  • This song is taken right from L.A. Noire :P

  • This is so cool, used to play this import from the KUSP library during my midnight to 5 show; imagined the random driver down I-5 hearing something like this through the fog. Miles blows.

  • This song right here talks to me in so many ways. Good musical conversation.

  • thumbs up if your comments never get liked

  • @dstudentsuccess7 Smooth

  • @dstudentsuccess7 cool jazz or modal jazz

cool because of the time period it's from and the slow tempo (particularly in terms of the tempos of the bebop movement just prior)

modal because Miles and other jazz musicians of the time were using church modes, especially the mixolydian, dorian, and lydian, in their music.

If you know music, listen to the scale Miles uses to start off the piece. It's a concert Ab dorian b2

If you're looking for similar stuff, try Brubeck or Mingus for a start

  • @meepmeepXroadrunner

I could be mistaken, but I think he plays

    A Bb C D Eb F G A Bb A ....

(for trumpet , that is. trumpet is a transposing instrument)

isn't that the A locrian mode?

please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm still learning all this

  • @kareljuwet sorry for the late response... that sounds right actually.. those are the notes i always play on trumpet

  • great movie ''Ascenseur pour L'Echafaud'' de Louis Malle

  • The photo of James Dean walking in the rain with his collar of his trench coat pulled up, hands in his pockets, while smoking a square on the streets of New York.

    or

The solo gentleman on the balcony of his flat over looking the city he has taken over with his wit and charm. He has everything he wants, but nothing he needs. Thoughts of the one that got away flood his iron clad mind. The finest cigar money could by in his left hand, a gentleman's portions of bourbon in his right.

  • It's just SOOO SEXY

  • This makes me feel sexy anytime I listen to it. Miles Davis has that affect on people. :)

  • songs like this make me wish I lived a few decades ago when the world hadn't been stripped of all its mystery yet. Times when music hadn't been raped by talentless golddiggers searching for fame and richess. When I listen to this song my soul fills up with gentle sadness, my mind goes blank, my eyes drift away, and I am completely at peace with myself.

  • @fonckmaista You don't know right you are my friend. After a hard day this relaxes you like nothing else.

  • I can just see this song being set to Edward Hopper's 'Nighthawks' painting.

  • smooth and sensual

  • coolest cat on planet ! ice cold

  • INTOXICATING

  • You can't play that reading chords off a chart ... you got to be immersed and in the music to render that kind of lyrical line you've got to hear where it's going

  • @Sorenconrad As far as the studio work that Miles did, it's so hard to decide what his best was. You're talking all modal era, but he had so much out there. I consider him the most influential jazz musician ever. INCREDIBLE trumpeter.

  • Wonderful music and exciting both.

  • 50 years I've been listening to this particular piece...and everytime is like the first time.

Probably the most haunting piece of music of all genres....forget jazz, classical, whatever....this goes way beyond genre....

    Still gives me goose bumps...

  • holy shit. this is incredible. all the instruments are in sync and they make perfect music. awesome music.

  • Sublime......so sublime.

  • If i could concrete this moment...

  • Truly the best jazz I've ever heard.

  • pre-curser to Modal Jazz

  • This song is 11 out of 10!

  • Jazz is considered by many to be America's only true original art form. That said, it is clear Jazz is a melding of everything American which is black, white, Indian. If you listen to Jazz you can hear heavy influences from ALL. You hear rhythm from African heritage which you don't hear in classical. You also hear Classical from European to name two. It all came together in America and melded into Jazz. Jazz is AMERICAN high culture and we all..black, white, indian contributed heavily.

  • melrose men........hahaa jazz music itself is african american created............ ... jazz was the hip hop music of its time !!.. i think you should listen to some of miles davis interviews and you will understand where im coming from.

  • what does jazz being created by african americans have to do with anything?

  • Hey, I understand man. But you saying that it's black high culture, that's the part I disagree with. It's like saying the Milk made for cows is lemonade. Or that italian food is mexican food. I don't doubt that it's good, but it was made for a movie.

  • are you sure about that. looks to me like this was made for a flim.

  • it was made for the film Ascenceur pour l'echafaud

  • I've listened to this song so many times....

  • D&G The One

  • talking about this is impossible

  • spettacolo

  • Superb .............. A harmonious screem thats reaching for the most basic desire of man, acceptance.

  • just , indescribable y'know? It just oozes sex and class and noire as erswew mentioned... I agree completely.

  • I COULD DRINK THIS POST

  • haha ! i could inhale this post ! and live off it

  • alright motherfucker i'll drink it and you smoke it.....and we'll both get f.u.b.a.r....how bout that.

  • IT'S SO GOOD

  • NO SUGAR NEEDED.

  • miles davis is supreme.
