  • Oh that was so sweet:-) Beautiful dress and beautiful model :-)

That was a fashion, don't you think?:-) Thank You:D

  • Very nice!

  • aaw this video is so cute :D

and i really love the costume. i know it's a bit unhandy but women should definitely start wearing those dresses again just because they are so beautiful ;)

  • Goodness me , how good do you look , i just loved watching your video, well done you did a great job ...

  • Although I wish you would have been authentic 100%, well-done vid. As someone deeply fascinated by the American Civil War and the Victorian era in general it's nice and informative to see how women dressed during that time. It was quite the ritual :-).

  • What kind of tapes did you use?

  • wooow =D

  • can you sit down with it?

  • I thing it doesn't look that comfortable, huh?

  • ohhh i love every dress that sissi wears, its just beautiful!! Good job i loved it

  • I absolutely love it.

  • you look lovely

  • How wide is your hoop? I love your skirt!

  • Too much clothing and so much to wash down at the stream. I don't know how they handled that kind of clothing in the heat back then!

  • @blueberries4ever they also wore wool under their clothing most of the time. They thought it would breath better then cotton in the summer. This of course led to many deaths due to heat

  • @Chris25rod Not exactly. Wool doesn't have to be so heavy - it depends on what sheep breed and how fine wool is spun. A good number of men's suits today are made out of wool and they certainly don't die of heat. Wool has excellent properties - wicks away the moisture in heat and retains heat when its cold.

  • superbe! merci. Did the prince charmant come ?

  • Beautiful outfit. Looks just like Empress Sissi's!

  • love the video but her stay should be much tighter!

  • you should be wearing boots under ur skirt their ankles even in stockings never were to be shown back then

  • Omg soooo many layers They must have died of heat exhaustion not to mention just getting dressed looks exhausting! Men where so lucky. Yes we romanticise that era now in retrospect for its beauty elegance and extravagance but it was not really so.

FYI you did an amazing job on this and you looked wonderful great work

  • @niamh2739 well it was for rich people, poor ones wore the clothes that were a bit different

  • you're a lady, it looks very nice

  • wow its so beautiful l love it becuase l love old history and old fashion clothing but it seem hard work !!

  • AWESOME~

  • That was the coolest video I've seen in the last fifteen minutes.

  • How did you make the hoope and where did you get the matierials?

  • Can you sit with that?

  • @cattitta0087 Yes, you can sit in these costumes, surprisingly enough. Women have to sit down sometime. My real question is how to use the bathroom without ruining anything. lol Imagine Keira Knightley wearing one of her most extravagent costumes from The Duchess!

  • @AriaInTheSky So true! hahah, now that's a big question.. lol. I think they needed the help of another women with that.. maybe that's how started the typical girl's reaction to go to the bathroom together.. (sorry my english)

  • @cattitta0087 Hm, good call. I don't mind going alone so much, but when it doubt, walk it out. xD

  • I want to try too! I'm so jealous D:

  • @tessalina You actually do resemble Romy Schneider :) Very pretty

  • @mandelo2 they would have a slit in their undergarments and over their pot, which was a pot (google chamber pot) they lift the dress and- for lack of a better word- squat

  • j'ai fait une reconstitution de la vie de Nikola Tesla, et j'ai dû porter un corset et une robe du 19 ème siècle c'est horrible

  • Just gorgeous!

  • OMG THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!1 I was in the whole video like a dog moving my tail!

  • @xXxMySweetChannelxXx Awww thank you! :D

  • hiihi yeah you could pass for sisi ;) nice video :)

  • @Adeda17 Much obliged thank you. :)

  • lovely!

  • awsome u look awsome pause at 51

  • i saw that cartoon. omg. cute.

  • How do you pee with that thing?

  • @deadlybug Seconded. ._.

  • @deadlybug Lift it all up. hehehe

  • @deadlybug its hard to go bathroom i know cause iam civil war reencator

  • @deadlybug Lift up your skirt and swat over the chamber pot. And oh, crotchless drawers, FWIW.

  • very nice! good job!if you didn't say I'd have never known you wern't wearing your pantiloons!!!ha!

  • lovely my dear but really, tiny steps crossing the porch would go much better with the twirls

  • @Hailstone47 I'll keep that in mind next time I make a video. This is my one and only historical costume vid.

  • as a bare basic concept, pretty good! the original skirt, however, had hidden strings sewn in with which to lift the skirt in the front, when entering stairs, for example, this was for preventing having to bend down to pull up the dress, and to prevent distorting the dress after a lot of pulling ... also, the dress is a bit short in the front, shoes should not show ... and buttons were really tiny, originally ...

  • @AlphaSigma10 Thanks, I'll keep that in mind next time. I would love to see your historical costume work! :)

  • I think your presentation was beautiful and also very informative - and what talent you have! Thank you. Philip de Lacy White

  • aww cute vid. i was just wondering if or wher i could get one of those head pice

  • @mel86lil I made it myself. I purchased fake hair from a wig store and make this by braiding it and sewing it together.

  • I love that you made up this video first of all. I do Civil war reenacting, and have been researching everything on originals not just of the 1860's but from about 1500-1970's.. Anyways, I should probably mention that what you said was to be a Swiss waist.. was in fact a 'Medici belt'.. a Swiss waist was a lot bigger, looked like a corset almost.. sometimes it had straps on the shoulders and some didn't. I just wanted to fill ya in on that. Other than that great video!

  • @Godeys1860girl Yeah I called it a Swiss belt for a while. >.< Thank you!

  • goodness...that a lot of layers!

  • I'm wondering... What is it like to sit wearing that... outfit. Obviously, one cannot sit back and relax one's back, And with all these layers of fabric and baleines under your bottom, it ought to be quite uncomfortable. Furthermore with those baleines, wouldn't the skirt lift up at the front?

  • @lukkeoni Nope you sit on the hoops and it isn't that uncomfortable. The hoops doesn't lay flat but it doesn't fly up like you see in videos. You just need a chair without arms.

  • I love that outfit, although if it's really thick cloth, I would hate it be stuck in that on a hot summer day!. Wish I could have a costume like that though.

  • T_T yes it does look fun!!!!!

  • how do u sit in that haha

  • so adorable!! i loved it

  • what if it is a hot day

  • thats so cool!!

  • question...do you do like custom orders? because ive seen a few of your videos and i LOVE em!

  • @kiah666necr0 No sorry I don't take any orders. I make these just for myself and my own enjoyment. ^_^

  • That is just too pretty! LOVE it!

  • I'm not that good at history, but you mention cotton a lot.

Wasn't hemp used a lot for textiles in the 19th century?

I'm not saying they never used cotton, I'm just asking=)

  • sooo coool XD

  • I agree, I love the bustle pad added inside the hoopskirt, it makes a big difference to the way the skirt moves, it's brilliant!

  • @ghislainebeauce Yep, Jenni Lithgow told me it was a good idea and it was. :D

  • Cute video, cute dress, cute person! Thanks for sharing this interesting topic.

  • @lekszi46 Awww shucks! Thanks!

  • @mandelo2 They went just before they got dressed.

  • Very beautiful! :-)

  • i think thats the most layers i have ever seen be put on

  • wow i love your costume :)

  • wow, it looks absolutely like Sisi's dress in the photo, I recognized it immediately =) I would love to have a dress like this. stunning!

  • wow...I love that.I wish I could wear get one of those hoops.....

  • It's amazing how the skirt has such a big volume and yet moves so naturally!

  • wierd but cool lolz

  • Fantastic!! You'r so beautifull with the dress!!!

  • @orangeavenue1 Thanks!

  • How did they sit down??

  • I don't know haw the Victorian lady did handle the summer heat will all this fabric on and no AC. Can you imagine dress up for winter when the heat index is 98F and the humidity makes feel 110F ? Very nice presentation, thank you.

  • You rock girl....That's a lot of work! I made an Elizabethan costume in half scale and I stressed. You're amazing!

  • i love it! its so beautiful :)

how do you sit down in it though? lol

  • @MissBlackberryBlixa

    Hoops skirts fold :)

  • that skirt looks very pretty.

  • DID U MAKE THAT?? WHERE DID U GET ITTT??

  • @TheFunnySho I made it all myself. Patterns from Truly Victorian!

  • Were chemises really that short in the 1860's?

It's pretty short even for today.

Thanks for sharing this video.....I really admire your effort & the gorgeous results.

  • @ggmorvaj

Yes, the chemise would be about that short, but it would be tucked into her drawers before she put the corset on. I'm not quite sure why she didn't have any on...

  • @LeannanStair I don't like pantaloons. They weird me out. I prefer a short chemise with modern panties.

  • Aww you look so pretty with the costume! Great work!

  • Very nice! Have always been interested in 1860's. My favourite novel and movie is "Gone with the wind", so I guess that's no surprise.

  • wow! u are really talented! I love these types of costumes! :) excellent job!

  • FAVORITES!!

  • This was really cute thanks for posting!

  • How can it be 'proper' if she didn't even put pantaletts on?

Also, you probably already know this, but twirling your hoop around in public is a no-no.

  • @zeldagirl7491 lets jsut see who the fuck cares!! why are u cristiszing when u probubly only did research yes it was inapropriot but this is just for her fun

  • @vivienleigh1097 I don't see how this AT ALL concerns you. Don't bother me again with your bad spelling and vocabulary.

  • @zeldagirl7491 wow HAHAHA!! bye bye!

  • She should try recreating Sisi's famous "diamond stars" dress!

  • Eine Kaiserin muß glänzen!

  • you should start from the begining, WEARING NOTHING!

  • @cilva7 bwahahaha... next time ok? :P

  • I saw your ankles! :O

    just kiddin'

  • @LtOfArsenicKisses Oh noooooes!

  • By the time you got undressed for bed it would be time to get dressed for work! hehehe

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing!!!!! =)

  • I love the skirt!!!

  • That does look fun...wow thanks for sharing. I never thought to do a dress base off of one of the royal family.

  • This a very nice outfit and this is the late 1860s the other half of the 1860s the skirt was more wider at the front but the volume was gradually developing towards the back. The king and I movie is a good example of how women dressed in the early 1860s.

  • @veraellen1924 The dress is based off a 1864 Sissi "photo shoot". She would have been ahead of everyone with fashion and she did have elliptical hoops on. You can even see in some of her earlier outfits that she had them.

  • If it was the 1860's I wanted to see a crinoline dress, and instead you are putting on a bustle. That came aboot a decade later

  • How about you do some research? The bustles of the 1870s were formed around a "natural form" skirt, i.e. A-line in modern jargon. This style, of a hoop with the slight bustle over it, was common toward the late '60s.

  • @jangmiflower Thank you!

  • @niwatoriichi Not a bustle. Elliptical cage hoops and totally appropriate for mid 1860s to later.

  • Elisabeth wasn't a hooker. She was an Empress and a Queen.

  • Wow! I can not imagine that i would have to put all of this on in the morning! But then again, I guess she didn't have a 9 to 5 job, and there were no traffic jams either :-) Thanks for sharing this!

  • @bloknotedotnl You do know middle class people didn't dress up like this. It was mostly high class people and royalties who dressed up this much, but then again not every day.

And when they did dress up like this, they got help from servants.

  • @Sw33tSm0k3 ... Who says I am Middle Class? *grinn*

  • @bloknotedotnl I could be wrong but i'm just saying:)

  • I absolutely love this design! What pattern did you use, if you used one? It looks fairly simple to make. Did it take you long?

  • @MsBeccabeck Truly Victorian patterns. Took me about 6 months including some research time.

  • hello ..i would like to know how you made the hair piece? i have shorter hair so i need something i have made my dress but could use help with the hair peice its my halloween costume my daughters and i are doing the little women theme this year ...but need a good hairpiece...thanks..

  • @LaFlacs Long fake hair from a wig store. Then I braided it and sewed it together. No pattern or help. Just sorta figured it out somehow.

  • I wander how the black undergarment is named (I mean the one which makes the form for the dress in the down part).

  • they're called hoops.

  • thanks for sharing this video!

  • Can you do a tutorial of you doing the hoop skirt.

  • @SuchaCaligrrl Maybe... in terms of what?

  • i watch this video over and over again!

it is loverly and i was wondering if you have more costumes and like to make more of these video's?

i would love to see them!

  • @Renske82 I do... I am thinking about reposting stuff on my account. This one is my friend's account. I have a Regency outfit I could show. :D

  • cool vid... i knew there's a lot fo clothes involved but i didn't this much... one question though... can you actually sit while wearing a dress like that?

  • I'm a guy, and I appreciate the post!

On one hand to put women thru all that just to get dressed, seems ridiculous.

But when its all put together, it looks great!

    Hmmm.

  • Hmm .... you must have a big house. And you really have to make up your mind to go to the toilet!

  • Fantastic!

  • Wow did you make all this? Really cool!

  • You look gorgeous! I really want to start making big dresses like this one. You are really talented

    Bravo =D

  • красиво.

  • Great video! Remember "She knew....how to walk pigeon-toed so that her wide hoop skirts swayed entrancingly," from chapter 3 of Gone With the Wind, in describing Scarlett O'Hara.

  • ah so thats how they got the whole tent look, i always used to wonder why victorian dresses looked so big at the bottom, now i know.

thanks for sharing this with us.

  • Hmmm... Nice dress!

Just step more regally! Hoops flare out when you tred hastily.

  • Thanks for the educational video. Wonderful costume and beautiful detailing! Only one suggestion: try not to stride around like a field hand when wearing hoops. Smaller steps are more becoming and of course, more ladylike. :-)

  • Pretty dress!! :D

  • Beautiful knife-pleats, I'm drooling!

  • Is very nice ^^!

    I love it

  • That was so cool! thank you for sharing it. I am doing a re-enactment tomorrow and I'm singing. Anyone reading this, I would love a critique on how my practice went. I posted me singing the song I'll be performing. But, I;ll have to post of me singing in my ballgown after tomorrow. Anyhow, Thanks again for the inspiration on the gown.

  • That was great! I do love the movement of the gown.

  • lovely, lovely, lovely. :)

  • great video, would love to get an outfit from that period for the guys..

a question though, can you actually sit down with those hoops on?

  • Oh yeah. What you have to do is find a bench or a chair without arms. Then you just sit down on the hoops and make sure nothing flares up to show your undies. :P

    Be well,

    Tessalina

  • very helpful, do u knwo where i could get cheaper dresses for the civil war?

  • eBay? Etsy? These costumes usually aren't very cheap just because of the amount of fabric and time put into them.

    Be well,

    Tessalina

  • Very very interesting!

Congrats from Portugal! (not Madeira though...

  • Her hoop has a wonderful shape and she look just like the photograph of Elisabeth!
