what a crazy, strange, beautiful song. even if there were love songs, and even if this was one and it was only a memory, and even if you were not all that sure about the memory, and even if you had been to war and now love and songs and guitars were all like a hang-over, you'd still pause over this one.
If anyone doesn't know, in "The Witmark Demos" of Bob Dylans Bootleg series, it says the first 30 seconds into listening Bob Dylan's original demo, she was in tears, then went into the studio and recorded it right away.
Man!!!!! She makes this heartbreaking song even MORE heartbreaking.Loved it on "the walking dead" although i thought it was a little incongruis until i thought about the doctors heartbreak over his infected wife
Would someone please post "Thirsty Boots" and "Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues"? I was one of those who preferred Judy over Joan. It was a great time in folk music.
Thanks Scout4Me1 - - this sounds like the version from Recollections 1969. One of my favorite Judy songs. There is one other I would like to hear uploaded - Fare thee Well - Trad./Dylan on her Recollections 1969 album but unsure which earlier album it came from.
I couldn't find a youtube video with Bob Dylan singing this song. Fortunately I found this Judy Collins video. Only she and Dylan are qualified to sing it. Many thanks and best of luck to your brave cousin.
A consummate fan of the singing & playing guitar artistry she makes me blush. Happy that the years we've shared upon this green earth under the blue skies.
une pure merveille, Judy Collins traversait une bien mauvaise passe quand elle a enregistré cette chanson, son meilleur ami et soutien était Bob Dylan, elle l'a récompensé en étant de très loin sa meilleure interprète.
Excellent audio! Seattle's own beautiful-voiced Judy Collins singing one of Bob Dylan's most haunting melodies: An unbeatable combination! Thank you, and may your cousin remain safe and secure.
@billyguns2 billyguns2!!! This song has gone through me over and over and over again. This is a secret - one of my secrets - this song and its beauty was brought to a great loom. along with me and now there is a secret tapestry. Oh. I am telling all this to you because when I read your comment, "This song destroys me," I had such a strong feeling of - I have no words to describe how strongly I understand those words. Anyway, take it easy.
Judy and Joan - how often they were compared, but they are all in all probably the greatest female singers coming out of the folk movement. Judy has a wonderful voice and has, if you know her repertoire over the years, sometimes a greater variety as Joan. But I love them both, anyway. Thanks for the video,
If Dylan was succeeding instead of seceding he wouldn't give a rats ass that his old lady split.

Of all of Bob Dylan's songs, this one is my absolute favorite, and Judy Collins' version is, to me, the quintessential. Absolute perfection.

Judy's voice - at the upmost of perfection. Tone, delivery, vocal range; just supurb!
Cyrstal clear; just unbelievable voice!

I couldn't agree more - Judy was in her prime at this time. This is by far the best version of this Dylan classic.

This song destroys me, and I can't imagine a better performance of it; Judy Collins was in her glorious prime here.

@TheTroyBreslow yes, thank you for mentioning it. I think Judy Collins covers that Dylan song most beautifully of all.

@TheTroyBreslow I recall my former wife and lover Linda Cambre as I listen. Great song. Terrific performance. Powerful memory.
