  • No it only took one take. Cunningham said it himself in an interview. Just talent.

  • Bad movie, but great scene.

  • This bit was the break in the film for the audience to relax and gather an understanding (for those that the hunger strike was new to) to understand what was going on. Without this scene the film wouldnt be as amazing as it is.

  • @calBHA1 try and pass that u said frm this scene n sumwere wer people will see dwn south lik facebook especially, frm a galway kiddo god bless:)

  • one word for this scene brilliant

  • ya blurt we need ya

  • I LOVE LIAM CUNNINGHAM!!!! THAT IS ALLL. "Once there's wine involved."

  • I heard this was filmed all in one take, on the first take

  • @londonthistle Took 4 takes to get it done.

  • Great, natural scene.

  • best, most natural belfast accent from a non-belfast accent i've ever heard. the bit where he says 'fuck off' is pretty much a perfect west-belfast intonation of that, haha.

  • D; all that smoke

    Otherwise, amazing scene.

  • Hey, is this movie on DVD yet?

  • @jack23371 It is :)

  • @jack23371 Of course :) Depends where you are but check Amazon and it should be on there pretty nice and cheap for ya :)

  • Yeah, best price should be on Amazon.

  • I bet those tosspots who run the Oscars havent seen this scene the gobshites

  • great fucking scene, one of the best ever!!!

    great fucking movie as well!!!

  • A German actor fights for the unity of ireland in this awsome film, how ironic, or not?^^ Go bless the Queen^^.

  • One of the best dialogue scenes in movie history.

  • @FYWBreborn one of the best films in movie history? I would say YES. Surely in the top 5 of the last decade.

  • Different class. Faussbender is spellbinding ,ably supported by Cunningham. Makes the hairs rise on my neck every time I watch it.

  • narsicsistic, articulate, mastered

  • best belfast accent from an actor that isnt from belfast

  • @MrIrishrover2010 youre right, and hes from germany.

  • @FrankSinatra89 Your wrong, his parents are German, he himself is a Kerryman, you think a German could master an Irish accent that well, you must be a proper stupid cunt.

  • @mister18cm

    No, his mother if Irish......

  • @mister18cm His mother is Irish :\ :P

  • apparently cunningham and fassbender lived together for a while to practice this scene again and again.

  • I honestly like this even better than the famous monologue (that comes immediately after this) even though that's awesome also. But I lived in NI for a while (Derry) and the thing that really gets me on this particular part of the movie is the sense of humor. Nothing and nobody outside of Northern Ireland cuts the line between the most hilarious thing you've ever heard and the most live-alteringly serious thing you've ever heard so close....

  • bet a lot of this dialog was based upon actual meeting.??

  • need。。。。。subtitles!!

  • Lol why can't people understand whats being said, i can understand them perfectly.

  • @jamesanddaddy dialog was constant wonder how many takes.?

    uk/usabhoy.

  • @jocksmen, they did it in one. It holds the record for single longest take in film.

  • @McBrannon1000 THIS WILL FOREVER HAUNT ME.

    RIP

    BRITBORNWITHIRISHBLOOD

    USA.

  • @jocksmen According to the DVD they took 5 takes of this scene. On one of the takes the actors messed up the dialogue about 10 minutes in. On another one of the takes the boom operator's arms got tired and the mic popped into shot. Other than that they got all the way through it 3 times. I think out of the 5 takes this was Take 4.

  • this movie did the Hunger strikers pure Justice which is something they deserved but never got

  • I read that Liam Cunningham ( Priest ) moved into Michael Fassbenders apartment for a few weeks and they would study this scene and act it out a few times a day . Best scene from the film

  • Amazinfg film.

  • what kind of cigs are those?

  • One of the best pro Irish films ever!!

Should have had a wider audience.

These 2 Irish actors show how much talent there is in Eire.

    Acting.

    Art.

I'm an Australian soldier, with Irish heritage and proud, serving OS.

  • @jeffersonpedler This isn't a pro Irish film, it's just a film about the last days of Bobby sands. The creator of this film Steve McQueen (an english man) said throught the making and during the premiere of this film that he had no agenda to promote or demote the politics of Bobby sands or views of the republicans and unionists in norther ireland.

  • I rented the movie from Blockbuster Video recently in order to a) see it for the first time and b) write a paper on it for Northern Irish Cinema class at Portland State University. I was fortunate enough to have subtitles on my DVD (it's a Blockbuster exclusive). I actually transcribed this scene in its entirety as my focus for my paper. Unfortunately, I lost the word for word notes/transcript on the scene, so I now have to just watch it again and again and write while I watch. :(

  • Does anyone have a transcript? I'm working on one right now, and having a real rough deal with understanding what they're saying.

    sample:

    B: *sometihng*

P: Priest Ettiquette. Never said before your arse.

    B: Sit down then.

P: Thought i'd come over to you eager.

B: Best to over at the door.

P: You'll learn that at your first week at a seminary, boy. Cig?

    B: C'mon.

P: Bit of a break from smoking the bible.

  • "You can sit down anytime you like." "Priest etiquette: never sit before you're asked." "Sit down, then." "Don't want to come over too eager." "Best to hover at the door?" "You learn that your first week in the seminary, boy. Cig?" "Come on." "Bit of a break from smoking the Bible, eh?" "Oh, aye." "Anyone work out which book is the best smoke? "We only smoke the Lamentations. A right miserably cigarette."
  • Sorry, that should be "MISERABLE".

  • @futsalfred2 Just rent it from Netflix and put up subtitles. It's a lot of text but great stuff

  • @BioWolff subtitles are ignorant.

  • @jocksmen especially if ur from over there.?

  • @jocksmen : Ironic you should say that, because in reality, they educate. A thick accent is natural for lots of folks, but it's also natural for people from other regions to have some difficulty understanding them. Besides, without using subtitles, you'll be unable to watch 90% of movies unless you speak 90% of the world's different languages (or hold out for a dub, which few movies get).

Subtitles would be a nice touch, even though I enjoy their accents ;)

  • @futsalfred2 God, your a stupid cunt, you must'nt have ears in your head, or anything between them for that matter.

  • @mister18cm Im not Irish. I can't decipher their thick Irish accent.

  • @futsalfred2 it isnt that hard. quite easy if you open your ears

  • Comment removed

  • @leighxmac74 Well you obviously never read the art of war and dont understand the power the hunger strikers gave us. Sure the loylaists never had the bottle.

  • @shinewearsoff the whole movie is on youtube with english subtitles

  • this conversation is the best part of the film
