  • Does anyone know what the name of the Rush song he is playing starting at 1:28? It's that little riff they sometimes play at the end of Tom Sawyer when they play it live.

  • Man, this is fukcing brilliant (excusez les mots)

why they never play this live).

    Tim

  • oh man!! really nice.. is the best neil peart salute that i ever see!

  • I agree... It's the best salute I could have imagined.

In youtube I have never seen such a great mix composition and playing of Rush drums!

    CONGRATULATIONS!

  • BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!!!

i don't care for many 'tribute' videos, but this is exceptional, and CREATIVE.

    great choice of songs.

it's a testament to the greatness of Neil that another would study his work so closely to learn the ways of the master. this is the highest complement to him i've heard yet.

i could nitpick (snare is a little 'off' sounding), BUT a 1:1 'imitation' of his sound would not be as interesting as what you did.

    BRAVO!

  • I Saw Rush In June 1974 in asbury Park-N.J. They Opened 4 West, Bruce and lang,Been A Fan Ever SINCE I,ve seen Them Ever Tour Since,I Remember When Nobody Knew Who Neil Was,Life Is Funny

  • i would like to see you play the intro tho "show me dont tell me"

  • Er, it's called "Show Don't Tell" I think.

  • excellent job

particularly with 2112, cygnus x-1 and cygnus x-1 book 2

(shame you didn't do la villa strangiato)

  • amazin tribute!!

    what mics do you use?

  • I have been a rush fan since the 70's........you are a credit...superb!!

  • I loved your medley

  • Very nice job...you did some stuff I have never herd and reminded me of some I need to listen to again. Keep up the great work ! :)

  • Warning!

Moelller in use at 3:03...Outstanding job!

  • Jon,

As a starting drummer at age 49 you give me hope! I got a lot of practicing to do! That was the best! Neil would be proud!

  • defiantly the best peart cover on the tube. you did this justice and im happy someone did this and did NOT butcher it. great work...so.... anything from snakes and arrows in the works? email me dude!

  • Ha ha..bro..i've been coming up with my own stuff for 20 years and so burnt out on the original thing which is WHY i'm in a Rush Tribute band now. Pure fun..that's all.

    my space / analogkidsdetroit

    Peace,

    Jon

  • Neil Peart has been cloned and this guy is the result , Excelent fella .

I love that first picture of the young Neil on his drum kit.

What a great man. Rush Rules!

  • You didn't do any S&A??? Disappointed. Actually, this is probably the best thing to come out of youtube. Ever.

  • Thanks everyone for all the great comments..very much appreciated.. to try to answer a few questions that came up.. I didn't put anything from S&A because i made this before S&A was out...Yea..just Mapex Birch...the little bell at 1:46 was an old bell my son found hangin in my basement and attached it to the drums.lol..

So thanks all!..these comments really mean a lot to me..Rush Rules!

  • Then what's the last set you show? I could have sworn that is the kit he used to record Snakes and Arrows.

  • You're correct..that pic was taken from his website when they first started recording the album and they revealed his kit on his site.

  • Hey great job, really liked the part coming out of YYZ into a section from Signals and then into Distant Early Warning...

  • Fantastic,A great tribute to the great man himself, well done man

  • Jon. I spent my past 29 years trying to learn ALL I could of Neil Peart. THIS! is an EXCELLENT!, great tribute!... Bravo brother!

  • That was just great Shogun....not only nailing the drum parts but selecting the sections/time to play and the overall production was just awesome. You should get some sort of grammy or something for this...hehe ;)

  • Oh did i mention im going to see them this sunday in fort lauderdale fl ...I GOT GREAT SEATS!! im going to be up loading his drum solo on you tube look 4 NEIL PEART UP CLOSE

  • Man let me tell you ..over the years i'v seen a lot drummers trying to imitate or mimic Neil's lics and grooves ,dude let me tell you that was right on !!!

  • I totaly understand your passion for the Greatst band in the world of all time and you put it together very nicly. fantastic job.

  • Yeah. Loooong time Rush fan.

    Cheers

  • excellent show, excellent choices, hope to run into you in a club one year with my crate amp by my side!

    pete in florida

  • Great Job.

  • Excellent medley. I like how you placed "Where's My Thing?" next to "Leave That Thing Alone," two underrated instrumentals. Awesome playing, too. Mrsiix, the song at 1:28 is the first part of "Cygnus X-1: The Voyage".

  • can someone tell me the name of the song at 01:28

  • cygnus X-1

  • thanks

  • can someone tell me the name of the song at 01:28

  • that was some of the most amazing drumming i have ever heared (besides Neil Peart) but still....that was ver very good and keep up the good work!

  • Being a Studio Drummer for 21 years, I must say you're quite an accomplished drummer. Allthough there's a few techniques missing, It may just be your style that differentiates from the original recording, which by all means was NOT a bad thing ...at any rate, thank you for sharing your talent with us. I've been a Neil fan for YEARS...You do him justice well, If I were neil, I'd be honored to have you Imitate, or at least play my stuff. Cheers!

  • we want to see you play your own stuff

  • you are my new idol jon....flawless

  • you are my new idol jon....flawless

  • i admire you so much, you are truly an inspiration, aswell as a peart double!!! bravado sir, x

  • bravo!

  • badass !

  • Very nice salute to the professor! well done! RUSH FOREVER!

  • simply awesome!! love the sound of your kit, especially the snare. i noticed you left out the first album.some of the tunes you picked were

a little suprising, especially countdown. would have rather heard subdivisions.

  • your confusing "countdown" with "losing it".but i agree with you, would've loved to see subdivisions. great job on this vid though. makes me want to practice more.

  • Sorry, I posted before I read your reply DOH!!

  • Countdown? Are you sure?

  • It wasn't "countdown" he played, it was the instrumental section of "Losing It." That's what you must have meant.

  • that's what i meant, yes. i had the pleasure of seeing" countdown "live during the signals tour. i wish someone would put up a video of rush doing that song live. has anyone ever seen them do "losing it "live?

  • VERY VERY COOL MY FRIEND!! CHEERS!

  • Great vid montage and awesome playing! Salude!

  • I'm impressed.

  • Well done, a great tribute!

  • the transition to counterparts was the only part that i saw on ya

    Very nice

  • haha nice dude

  • I've been a Rush fan for 3 decades now, and WOW. This guy can flat beat the skins. Keep it up. Neil is beyond a doubt my favorite percussionist, and this kid definitely has talent. If you close your eyes and listen to what he does, you wouldn't know it wasn't Peart. Way Impressed.

  • Excellent work!! Great sounding kit too!!

  • I'm not a big fan of people spending their time trying to play other people's stuff, but this is clearly an exceptional effort!!You obviously spent alot of time and energy on this project-you too are obviously an incredible drummer! Your playing was relaxed and your execution seemed effortless!Good job mate!!!

  • Amazingly executed, mate. I'm a drummer and a huge Rush fan myself, and I spotted very very few missed beats or fills. Only two, I believe, which is a heck of a lot more than I can say for myself when playing Rush!

Out of curiosity, is that a Mapex M Birch you're playing on?

  • Really good job both playing with the music and recording it. How did you set up the mics?? Awesome!

  • A salute from Chile,

so nice drummer and very nice influences, good job, and make a video of "Tiempo de Festival" of Dave Weckl plz!!

  • Excellent!!!!

  • What kind of toms does neil peart use? Like the brand. I really want to know.

  • DW Drums. The Professor has used them since for who knows how long?

  • He only recently started using DW. In the past he has used Rogers, Slingerland, Tama, and Ludwig.

  • 1996

  • very nice man, sounds great and look very cool

    RUSH - CANADA'S GREATEST EXPORT

  • Hmm... Dunno if you're still taking requests or not, Jon, but if you are...

Losing It in its entirety and Middletown Dreams! :) Two fav's and, personally, I find Losing It to be very fun and challenging to "nail". Got a feeling you'd pull it off very well.

  • Great choices ... I love how Neil uses the snare sparingly on Signals ... and MD is one of my favs, too !!

  • MAn, its DaCheeseWalks here....amazing!!!!
