  • Where can I find tabs for clawhammer for this version of the song? I've looked high and low, with no success...

  • @MrMahensch I believe you can only mail order it from her website.

  • This is a brilliant video .. great clawhammer style Rebekah has, .., I'd love to play my banjo on that stage too!

  • sounds more like bluegrass .......

  • What does she place on the floor just before playing? (Maybe a Kleenex to dry her hand?)

  • very nice, the build-up in the beginning gave me chills.

  • Fantastic!

  • 5 people must be gay guys! who the hell doesnt like to watch a pretty lady play banjo like a champ?!

  • @georgiaswamper Uh... I'm sure most gay guys do. Please don't conflate sexuality with musical taste--it's insulting.

  • rebekah, when you comin back to clarksville? you find a song you like & you stick w/it-great playing!

  • this video literally made me go out an buy a banjo about 6 months ago... best thing I ever did...

  • Steve Martin said the banjo is the happiest sounding instrument ever. Snow drop played properly is the happiest song on the happiest instrument. I come back to this video after my soul crushing commute in DC hate filled traffic. Fixes me up every time! Thanks!

  • A near Perfect Rendition! The tempo makes me feel like I'm in a horse drawn sleigh trotting through a country side! If the bass player would have been in the same gear and slapped that bass a few times it would be THE perfect rendition!

  • 2:02 it sounds like the banjo is actually singing. wonderful stuff.

  • JUST BRAVO!!!!!!

  • how does she keep it up??? i want to play like that!!

  • i am blown away, this is incredible =D

  • WOW!!!! you are great, I could listen to you all day, you have a great gift!!!! Thank you for shareing.

  • that tune is a CROWN JEWEL and her happiness makes it stupendous

  • what is the name of this wonderful tune?

  • @brownie134 Snowdrop

  • brownie134, the tune is called "Snowdrop".

  • Nice job...Great...

  • I can hear it again and again, perfect!

  • when she smiles you can tell it's from the pure joy of playing the instrument. it doesn't matter what song it is, when you are a musician you are happy to be playing anything. and you know what it means to play enough to cure the itch.

  • I wish people would stop clapping - I want to hear the music not some retard smacking their hands together out of time.

  • Wow! I wish I could do that!

  • Dixie invited us to this - next time we're there!

  • Wow! Great playin...love the spark in your playing....keep firin away.

  • I think that Steve was pretty good. Now we have a teenage girl who can play. Alana.

    Kiss My Ass.

  • OH YEAH!!!! 10 STARS!!! :)

    Luvin this.

  • Brightened up a dull day!

  • Wow - now that's not only great playing but Rebekah knows how to please an audience as well. Bet she plays gigs a lot to have learnt that.

  • I believe her banjo is tuned to open C.

  • Some of the best clawhammer banjo I've heard in a while. Great work lady!

  • Thank You

  • What is the Name of the Song?

  • snow drop

  • Thank you

  • I wish I could play that good. Great Stuff.

  • GReat stuff! WHat is the name of the tune?

  • Snowdrop

  • The banjo originated from African traditional instruments. This style of banjo music originated in the North American Appalachians. It is not based off pentatonic blues which came from the Mississippi Delta. And Rumble dude is a racist douchebag.

  • man, if I clawhammered like that it would shred the backs of my fingers in less than a minute. I'm really curious how she lets loose like that.

  • She plays with Martin Black Diamond medium strings..coated

  • is she playing in "double c" tuning or "open c"

I can get a feel forf it in open c.

  • you got it wrong rumble dude...this music is circa civil war days, hence the title "old time music"...Your point would be good except it's wrong

  • You got it wrong sacsmt dude.... the banjo originally came from the slaves on plantations "circa civil war days". It is an African instrument, originally made with gourds as the backs. The Instrument and music originated from them. Blacks did exist during the civil war, ass.... Your point would be good except it's wrong.

  • LOOK AT THAT THUMB DROPPIN!! HELL YEAH

  • Tear that mug up! Great job!

  • how nice to see a banjo player enjoying themselves normally such a straight faced bunch

  • I Accidentally started playing this yesterday and couldn't remember where I had heard it until now. It's a cool tune.

  • hi everyone. i got really interested in playing banjo and i decided to buy one. at our music store they only have one banjo ant that's rover rb20.has anyone have any experience with it? i know it's not the best thing but i think it's good for start. i would love to hear your opinion guys.thanks

  • RB20 is a mahogany banjo and is a good one. Check around at the local bluegrass shows or on ebay for a good used one if you can though.

  • It is so wonderful to see a young beautiful lady smiling and playing Clawhammer Banjo!

    Congratulations and keep it up

    Dan

  • You seem to have captured the true spirit of the banjo. ThIs was an inspiration. Thank you so much.

  • she is amazing

  • wow, makes me realize how much more practicing i've got to do. she's good!

  • Santo Iddio, è stupendo!

  • woooo! great!

  • Shes great

  • It's a double thumb technique in which gives her that unique sound. She's an absolutely amazing banjo player and wonderful person!! There aren't many people quite like her. I'd reconsider my sexuality for a lady like that =]

  • Thumbing(drop, double or otherwise) isn't unique; it's very common. This music is nice for sure!

  • Clawhammer, in terms of which sounds the best, kicks the livin crap out of finger pickin banjo... AND DONT YOU FORGETTTTTTTTT IT!!!

Way to go lady... I think you have the bum ditty down! hahaha

  • absurd? are you kidding?? that's awesome music....the real deal

  • this reminds me why clawhammer is my one true love. well, as banjo playing styles go, anyway.

  • This lady is infinitely cool, and the song is beautiful !

  • Lifted once again..Thanks

  • I am amazed at the Clawhammer style.

  • Amazing!!!!! Perfectly played...

    What song was that? :)

  • The song is called "Snowdrop".

  • yeah, probably about the prettiest banja player about....great as well

  • ........and a beautiful smile!

  • Yee-haw! Git-r-done Rebekah! Awesome playing!

  • Fantastic!!

  • Just simply AWESOME!

    Thank you for sharing.

    Banjoistically yours,

    Jon Eric

  • To troutmaster67.."no big deal"?. Listen to her play. Actually close your eyes and listen. When she gets into it, it sounds absolutely unreal!

  • Comment removed

  • What talent! Loved the sound. I wish Rebekah the best in the future.

  • SHE IS AWESOME!! I enjoyed this vid big time.

Frailing/Clawhammer is a difficult way to play the banjo.....WAY OLD SCHOOL TALENT!!

  • I enjoyed your video. I thought the Banjo player was Excellent. Best Wishes, Wayne

  • I love how playing the banjo makes her smile. That smile is real. Blugrass music is real.

  • Troutmaster67 has to put her down because he doesn't know wtf he's talking about. Do you know how to even play? Since when is clawhammer "know big deal"? Are you a banjo elitist and think picking is done by masters of the instrument and clawhammer is for the novice? Wrong.

  • Once again, I clicked the wrong comment button ...I meant to commend you for your comments about the clawhammer or frailing style of picking that Rebekah does..She is AMAZING!!

  • She has 10 times the talent and tact you have.

  • Yes, she is talented. My comments were directed toward Trout.

  • love the way she goes from o to 100 mph in a second. wunderschoen

  • Cool girl,

    Cool banjo,

    Cool song.

  • I like it. Malc

  • LOVE the intro how it just blows up and the crowd gets totally into it. thanx for posting truly enjoyed this :o)

  • Wow! The most joyful playing I've heard! Fantastic

  • that's my kinda girl

  • this is just great, thanks

  • Amazing, Miss Rebekah Weiler. I you played anything like this at that recent UDMD intro to clawhammer workshop, I would have been too intimidated to join the class.

Luckily, as great as are a picker, you are also a very laid back ambassador for the banjo.

That one hour made banjo approachable, and now I'm dadblasted addicted to the thing.

  • brilliant playing. one of my favourites.

  • Danged fine Pickin' girl.

  • GOOOOOOOOOD

  • wow. thats awesome

  • What song is this?

  • it's called Snow drop

  • is it traditional? or an original?

  • My god she's good

  • Incredible!!! Sounds amazing

  • Dang girl - that's some fast thumb-droppin'!

  • Great job!

  • i want to marry her

  • I always pictured this song as the soundtrack to my grandmother's life..

It means alot to me..done so well.

  • It's talented folks like this young gal who'll ensure the five-string banjo will never die. Great performance!

  • brilliant. great tune and what a smile on that young woman.

  • Very nice...I love Banjo music! :D

  • Cannot quite work out why it lifts me, just happy it does. Thank you

  • Perkele!!!

  • I love you Rebekah.. you inspire me.. keep on keeping on.

  • No doubt about it this lady has got it.

  • I love old-time banjo pickin...now need some buck-dancers. love the dancers on the oter clips too btw.

  • For an "oldtime" competition, this sounds nothing like the original snowdrop. Grandpa Jone's grandson does it right on that cumberland highlander show.

  • Out of this World :)

this is How all instruments should be played - With joy

  • yep. what the Swedes call "Spelglädje" (joy of playing). It's why people still play folk music. For the sheer fun of it..

  • What is her name? Is she married? Fantastic girl!

  • Real good. Made me do the buck-dance.

  • you know a good banjo player cos there's blood on the skin

  • Oh my goodness,Rebekah, you really know your clawhammer!!! Excellent, excellent, my compliments!!!

  • what is the name this song please?

  • The name is snowdrop.

  • I'd like for this Lady to play at my wedding; if I ever get married, that is...

  • )O( Wicked!! :)

  • Frailing!!!YEAH! All I can say is WOW!

  • GET MAD AT IT!!!!!!!!!

I'm blessed to know this girl as a friend and co-worker! She's an awesome person, and she's so happy when she's on that stage. She always wears those sunglasses and a smile on her face!

  • Tell her thanks because she just put a smile on my face too.

  • makes me want to go to Clarksville and by a big hat..and listen to this awesome music all day long - fantastic....

  • Wow, great song... And she is so happy!!

  • This was wonderful. She is happy that she's playing. To me, that's how a banjo is. I see all these videos of players whose fingers are playing happy but whose faces look like they're at a funeral. Banjo is an American word for "Be happy!"

  • Absolutely fabulous, best I ever seed.

  • Go girl

  • You are great

  • cool ! I just dont get it about this technique - can somebody give me a hint? How does she do it ?

  • The technique is called drop thumb frailing also known as clawhammer. The notes are played by striking down on the string with the back of the finger- that is the nail is used to pick down on the string and the thumb plays the fifth or drone string and as you'll notice is brought down to play other strings as well- the "drop thumb" of the technique

  • THAT is what a banjer is spose to sound like!

  • EXCELLENT ! from Claiborne County Tennessee !

  • great performance. Something about the clawhammer style is just beautiful. Pick it girl. Love to see more.

  • I saw Bob Flesher play this in Galax one year, Snow Drop, I think. She's a better stage performer, WOW she's great.

  • WOW!! Both the music and the picker sparkle. This gal has got natural stage appeal that the audience obviously loved..and top notch banjo skills, too...she is a blue ribbon package for sure! Somewhere I bet Uncle Dave is hollerin' "Hot Dog Girlie!!"

  • In addition to a great performance, it's nice to see a contest where a player with that foot-stomping Uncle-Dave-Macon-style big-strum style is appreciated as much as the more restrained Round Peak stuff. She's a lot of fun to watch and makes that White Lady sound awesome!

  • Ando does a great job of demonstrating that the "big-brush" style can be very melodic and musically interesting. Love the video.

  • Whats the players name?Shes awsome!!!

  • Rebekah Weiler - and yes, she is an awsome banjo player.

  • Is she sportin' a resonator on that machine?

  • No. It is a Gold Tone WL-250+ open back banjo.

  • Hi Jim. The tuning is "Open C" gCGCE. Tune to "Double C"(gCGCD) and then tune your first string which would normally be a D, up one whole step to E. Hope this helps! : )

  • O, thanks to your this comment,

now, I'm enjoying to play this number.

    Thank you very much.

    (I'm not 'Jim', though.)

  • I would like to confirm what tuning she is using. Can anyone give me the notes for each string in this tuning? Many thanks if you can... Cheers, Jim

  • I love the way Rebekah sneaks up kinda' quiet like on the audience and at 16 seconds into the song she puts on the afterburners and instantly electrifies the audience. What a great performance!

  • This is absolutely fantastic!! I have just started learning clawhammer and watching this lady has almost put me off. How many years of practice would it take to get to this level?? OMG!!

  • Keep going!!! My friend just started learning the cello at age 55!!! It's never too late!!

  • Very,very good!

  • Her showmanship is great, unfortunately the idea of a contest is to impress the judges...not the audience.

  • So I guess the winner didn't win the audience's heart then? Isn't that kind of disappointing when only a few judges show "approval" and this girl gets over 15,000 hits in YouTube and wonderful commentaries?

  • No, it isn't disappointing. It's just the way contests work. All aspects must be considered including musicality, technical perfection, overall difficulty of the song, and showmanship.

  • This is the banjo player my husband thought was best.

She definately had the greatest showmanship for the audience!

  • Actually the name of the song is Snow Drop. It is a Sam and Kirk McGee tune.

  • Fantastic indeed. Any chance you know what song it is?

  • not sure what the name is.

  • Name of the song is "Snowflake".

  • no its snow drop

  • fantastic performance
