Hi Vanessa, I was wondering if you have this video in Spanish? Some of my sewing friends are more fluent in their mother language than English. Thanks. Lovely tutorial as always.
@MiaVitaBella No I don't. I don't sell my items these days. Just don't have the time to make inventory... plus, I have a lot more fun teaching new projects to all of you guys! :o)
Really great video! Thanks for taking the time. I'm on a short budget but have sewing experience and this saved me buying a pricey book. I look forward to making some of these for my expected grandaughter and I'll pass the site location on to others. Thanks!
Really brilliant video. My son went to a craft fair and came back with yards of cording but no instructions. He told me about the great bowls he had seen so I went on youtube and found your great video - many thanks as i am now set to give it a go
@PTuinman If you absolutely had to join two pieces I would put some clear tape around where the two ends meet to keep those fraying edges contained and then just sew with it as usual. Hope that helps.
@JeiBabi The machine I use for this project is a Janome 11542. I use another sewing machine that has like 300 different types of stitches for whenever I need a blind hem stitch and I do have a serger as well.
Awesome job with this tutorial! Thanks so very much. I am so bad at directions, and really needed a video rather then just written directions. :) Wonderful job with explaining what you were doing. You are a wonderful teacher! Would you happen to have a vid of how to make a crocheted over clothsline basket?
I tried posting this once, but it didn't go; so I'll try again. AWESOME instructions & can't wait to try this. I did notice your fabic appears to be "stretchy", but it didn't appear that it was cut on the bias. Should it be cut on the bias? Thx so much!!
@arkygirly1 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. :o) I didn't cut them on the bias. I think because the strips were so thin and the fact that I wrap it around the cord at an angle help add to the stretchiness you see. You can cut them on the bias if you want. It's up to you. I like to cut it however I will be able to get the longest strips..
@TheCraftyGemini how can i figure out if my machine will handle this project or not? I so want to try this.. This is really an amazingly cute basket..
Great tutorial. When I wrap the fabric round the cord, I get a lot of thread ends sticking out. Do you get these? If not, how can I avoid them and if you do, how do yu deal with them?
@MooseMail59 Thanks. That often has to do with the quality of the fabric. I find that if I starch the fabric and then cut the strips that it reduces the raveling by a lot. Hope this helps. :o)
@taibahussain The cord is going to be covered by the fabric so it's just a matter of preference in which one you use. Start watching at 2:32 for info on how wide to cut the fabrics. Hope this helps. :o)
Hi, I really want to make a few of these baskets but i'm not sure how much cord i will need. On average, how much cord would you need for one basket the same size as the orangey/yellow one shown in your video?
Also, would this be ok to use for the baskets (it is from joanns website)? --> 8/32'' Diameter Cotton Piping 50yds
@taibahussain Hi... start watching at 3:50 to hear all the info regarding how much cording to use. The 8/32" cotton piping may be too thick to start off with depending on your sewing machine. Like I mention in the video I recommend starting with a narrower cord like the clothesline. Hope this helps. :o)
I tried making a bowl and my (expensive) sewing machine's motor overheated. I am trying to find out if clothesline comes in 100 % cotton. The only kind I can find is cotton on the outside, but synthetic inside. If 100% cotton clothesline exists, do you know where I can buy it? Thanks!
Ouch! I always get mine at Joann's. Go to Joann(dot)com and search for "cotton filler cord." That's for the thicker cord I usually use. You can also type in "cotton piping" and see a few different choices. Hope this helps!
About how long would this take for each basket you show? I mean like a small, medium, and large according to the ones in this video. It looks really time consuming. It looks fabulous though!!!
@Missrlbarlow The smallest one took me about 30 minutes. Then the largest one probably about 45 minutes. The first one will take a while because you are still learning how to wrap and sew as you go. Once you get a system going it goes by quickly. :o)
I want to say you are wonderful and perfect teacher thank you very much but can you show video about skirt , dressing and all other cloths plz and thanx again
I wish I could make this.... I have a 4 year old sewing machine still in the box! I'd rather learn to build a car than try to learn this newfangled machine! Thanks so much for the lesson but I can't even sew a hem.
@AuntDuddie I have other videos showing you everything from how to thread the sewing machine to sewing a simple hem in a small project.... Many of my viewers have learned to sew with my videos. Give it a try!.... Check out my "Getting Started" video tutorial first. Have fun!
This is crazy amazing, and has to be my weekend project lol! Curious how you think this would go with a really strong fabric glue like Aleene's or any other? Also could this be hand sewn as well (i'm teaching my little one and feel this would hold her attention more than an apron). Congratulations on winning Nextup!
@enigmaticveil THANKS! With that strong glue the fabric will hold nicely to the cord but I'm not sure how well the coiling part will work with the glue. The different levels may not hold up enough to give the basket the structure it needs. This project definitely CANNOT be handsewn. It's tough enough for some machines to sew it.. it would be practically impossible to do it by hand. It's just too thick. Hope this helps! Happy sewing!
I love this!! I can't wait to try making one. Your instructions look great. I will post a photo once I've made on. Thanks Vanessa, love your tutorials!
And to think I was just in the store today grimacing at the prices of the cute little bowls they have there wishing I had one to add to my room.
Problem=Solved as I happen to have all these supplies on hand already. :0D Very well done tutorial! (And bowl!)
