Despite being over 70 Tamura Sensei is quite remarkable. His timing is wonderful and his posture is very solid yet at the same time he has very fluid movements. Anyone interested in Aikido should try and meet this master. One of the all time greats.
aikido traditionally is a peaceful art. its a martial art as well as a religion. there are other branches of aikido that do have competitions like tomiki aikido. but there is no question regarding its effectiveness.
huh, funny, you'd think someone would explain it if it was just me who didn't understand (as opposed to just giving thumbs down :)...but its cool, everyone also has the right to believe illusion. so go for it.
@Tartersauce101 STAGED? You are hilarious. It goes for Aïkido as it goes for any other fields in life: it is when you have mastered it that it looks easy and "staged". I would love to give such a "staged" performance.
well no one is invincible. Miyamoto Musashi himself said that a lot of his battles he won by luck. You never know however a man who spent his entire life studying martial arts can be a tough rock to kick..... piece
i don't know your age but this master was over 70 years old when filming. Steal a time machine and go kick his ass when he was 30, don't forget ur camera so that we can appreciate the show...hehehe
It is a little bit different, then the karate or ju-jitsu. It seems it is a kind of dance, "fake" martial art. But I took part in a training with an old japan master and i felt that he could kill me any moment... and the statement that there is no need power is fault. The old man is so strong as it was not a challenge for him to push me for 4-5 meters. He was toshiro Suga.
Others have also questions about aikido - weather is it effective, or not? Because thre is no "normal" fight in aikido, you can not practise like in karate or jiu-jitsu. But there are some try - search for "real aikido". I think they are trying to "realise" the aikido.
@droidpeti Actually, Toshiro Suga was Tamura Sensei's student, but maybe you know it, he was also an actor (moon raker) and and studied art in Paris, meeting him would be an honor for me, I feel a little bit jealous of you. Must have been great practicing with him.
@maceioninjutsu you'll die before you can...Ok, this one was easy, he died a few days ago. Yet I would just love to see you punching Tissier for example. Please, whenever he goes to the US find him and punch him, please, please, please...I hope that you record it and you have the guts to put it on youtube then.

I started aïkido a few months before his death, so I didn't have any opportunity to meet him, and when I look at such a master, I deeply regret that.

Just found out now that he is no longer here. I was at a seminar with him a few years ago in sweden. He reminded us all what aikido is all about.

Dunno who gave you the thumbs down.
Don't feel the need to convince you into getting another opinion though.

I'am martial artist too and been for a while. This man may be good, but that doesn't stop him or anyone else from getting their ass whipped.
