Motorola blows the eris and iphone outta the park! the eris sucks i had it and returned it in like 4 days after the worst experience. dont waste your money. the picture quality is great idk what you are talking bout dude but its very easy to take steady pictures if u open the phone and use the depad....
@Bobina20 haha sounds exactly like my story... got the droid eris for free with the 2 year contract.. had it for 48 hours could not stand the fucking thing and returned it.. HTC makes the simpleist things so complicated.. got my droid and I cannot be happier AMAZING phone.
@Bobina20 It's not a shitty choice, I've used the Droid too (and the iPhone for that matter) and I much prefer the Eris. The UI is way more sleek, it has multitouch unlike the Droid, it has way more features like a WAY better media player, it can view and edit documents, the email syncing and contacts system is leagues better.
And despite the fact that the Droid has a more powerful processor for apps, the Eris is way quicker flipping through the homescreen and menus.
ummmm shitty answer not gonna lie lemme throw these right back at ya, Eris has shit speaker compared to droid ive had both so id know. the droid has a much nicer and louder speaker. DOLPHINBROWSER on droid= multitouch and also downloading the htc keypad = both options name 1 thing the droid cant do that the eris can and ill throw it right at ya!
1) HTC Sense is a MASSIVE upgrade of the Android OS. I don't think I've met anyone who doesn't think it looks and functions better than regular Android including 2.0
2) The Droid lags in when switching between homescreens and menus. Everyone knows that and its mentioned in countless reviews, it's not very smooth compared to the Eris which is amazingly fluid.
3) Eris has a better camera. Done.
4) Physical call and end keys are better than having to use the screen.
@MercenarySlick droid has multi touch aswell however only a select few developers made use of it (i.e Dolphin Browser) in android 2.1 it not only gets the multi touch in the default browser but also flash video.
I agree with most of your comments. I'll check out the better keyboard app. I have large thumbs and I cant use the top row of the qwerty keyboard without angling them in an uncomfortable position. If only the screen slid out a little further, I could fit my thumbs on top of the top row. I'm finding myself using the on-screen keyboard which I was not expecting to do.
my contract end in feb 2010 and i can't wait to get a new phone! when the this phone came out i was so excited! like you said, people get paid to say good thing about it. so your review is awesome! i struggled between this and blackberry tour. i have one of the ealrier htc now. you mentioned the htc. what do you recommend? we all want something that 'works'.
Yes!, you can download apps that allow you to download free music to your music player. Browse the internet at some of the fastest speeds possible. Completely customize it however you want. Voice command GPS-free, most apps/games are free, plus so much more. I am fortunate enough to have both the iphone and droid and i personally am leaning toward the droid(who's cost is not even nearly the monthly data price). So yes!
Also regarding the original bugs on the droid. I am completely in agreement with letsfindjesus here. The iphone has been out now for a good amount of time. On the other hand, the Droid has only been out for a few weeks. Give Android some time for a few updates, just as we had for our iphones, and we will see far more improvement with some of those small flaws we're seeing right now with the droid.
yo dude check my video im not 14 mor have small hands and i can use the keyboard just fine
next time when you go look at phones before you buy them pick it up and try it out you can tell from first touch if your gonna like it or if it wont fit your hands lol QQ
nice review well detailed and im 14 but i have huge hands but that keyboard is probly biugger than the one i have now im getting the droid soon when i get my upgrade
PERFECTLY DONE. Thats what im talking about. Finally someone who doesn't bash the Droid. I love the way u tell it straight up with the people. Well done review. Keep it up man. Im subscribing for sure. =) U remind me of Robert Downey Jr a little bit. I dont know why though. Its the personality. =) Kool review man.
Excellent! The way reviews should go. I have the Droid and I pretty much agree with ya. Yeah, it's Android and the Verizon network that sold me the phone.
Damn, I didn't see your original review, but I like your straight forward response and feedback about how the phone's been for you in daily use. Keep it up man
Oh...gotta question, I know my iPhone I can be on the phone and check my email/use maps, weather etc at the same time. Do you miss doing any of that on the Droid. thanks
I got my Droid four days ago and am in pretty much agreement with your critique. I still really like the phone, though perfect it is not. Other than the physical keyboard issues, hopefully software will fix the other areas of concern. I'll probably get better with the keyboard over time. Thanks for the review. This is my first smart-phone and only now am I beginning to understand the benefits they really offer.
just a heads up the HTC phone verizon will be releasing in december does NOT have a physical keyboard. that being said, it will be the best android phone out there (multi touch, htc sense, android 2.0, 1ghz processor) the stats on it are ridiculous
This is one reason I got the droid over the eris. Whenever in the car I just put it in the mount(a universal mount I got so fits in with case on). And I plug it in with retractable car plug. So whenever I'm on the go, I have a fresh battery when I arrive. And it is always ready to be used for navigation, although usually I leave the screen off/black and just have it there and answer calls if needed. The speaker phone works great from on the windshield mount.
battery time isn't really a problem though. For GPS you want it plugged in as that will kill your battery quite fast, but for normal usage(after the first couple weeks of initial extra use) it will last well over a couple days without a problem. If using music and apps all the time, of course the battery will drain faster and you should have a car charger/home charger so you can always power it up.
I was just mentioning that the phones are advancing far faster than batteries in terms of processors and what not. Someone motioned an HTC phone coming out but by adding super beefed up processors it will kill the battery life.

The Droid only has multiouch on a 3rd party browser, not on photo viewing and on-screen typing like the Eris.
- Doesn't have the HTC Sense UI which makes Android 2.0 look like shit.
-Only has 3 homescreens that LAG when you switch between them.
- Doesn't have different scenes each comprising of an entire set of 7 homescreens. - Has bad photoquality compared to Eris.
- Doesn't have physical buttons for Call and End.
The Droid just doesn't feel good. Even closed up the keyboard moves around.
MercenarySlick 2 years ago
im not fighting with some1 who doesnt know their facts what u said is bullshit.
1. doesnt have htc sense- alright good for you it doesnt mean anything
2. LAG? idk where uve tried it but hell no it doesnt lag at all
3. photoquality is very good including your led flash! keep in mind ive had both devices.
4. uhuh so we are lazy that we cant touch the send and end keys? wtf are you talking bout!

Camera: agree 100%
Video capture: agree
Keyboard: not liking it but still usable after sometime...BTW big hands :) I HATE THE D PAD
Onscreen Keyboard: works, i like it, but needs multitouch support for rapid typing
Nav: amazing, works great for my area
proximity sensor: havnt had that with my droid, happend though had that with my previous.. LG Dare
Just my thoughts :)
BTW don't you love the screen? all of it's high density pixelalyness?
