  • Oh, and I feel that the holding technique also needs looking at - what about continental, english, or a mix of the two? Makes it so much smoother and easier. There are lots of fairisle charts out there, or viewers can make their own - technique is what it's all about!

  • I know I am going against the flow here, but I wanted to say this is not the best technique for fairisle, and will probably cause problems for people who learn it this way. Taking both yarns underneath one another is going to lead to a tangled mess of yarn, and it is best to have one designated to go over, and one designated under. Lots of knitting experience doesn't necessarily equal good knitting skills! Still, if it brings more people to knitting, then job done. Just not well done!

  • Awesome video Judy; just loved it. And with the simple pattern you're showing here, you could even get brave and use 3 or 4 different colors to make this even more spectacular. Really look forward to watching more of your vids Judy and hopefully soon getting some of my own vids up here. Thanks for sharing :-)

  • @rjknittingdude

thanks for the comment. please do keep watching. look for me on facebook too.

  • ok, now i feel like a total idiot/ baka. MAKIG DESIGNS IS EASY

  • Is it possible to direct me to where this pattern is written out? I'd like to write it down, thanks!

  • @BeStrixed

I'm sorry, I don't have it written out. I will try to do that sometime in the future.

  • @jennnyroxsox

it's on my "to do list". it's a little complicated, but worth it. please keep watching.

  • Does anybody know how to put a picture on the scarf? Because I wanted to knit a picture of a bird but I'm not sure how.

  • @happypersononfridays

if you can do fair isle you can do this. take your time. good luck with it.

  • Fair Isle looks like it makes more sense than cutting your yarn and weaving in ends over and over.

  • @MyassWins

    definately!

  • Thank you for showing fair isle on the purl side! I had to do it and didn't know how to carry the yarn. Thanks again!

  • glad that helped. you have to do both sides after all. happy knitting!

  • the back looks weird!! streight yarn over there!! how i make both sides nice

  • Dear Judy, thanks for so many videos. I suddenly realise that one can actually create so many patterns and add so many colors to an otherwise plain knitting project by such simple knitting technique. I really learn a lot from you.

  • terrific judy. love how you do it! knitting requires real patience.. i love learning how to personalize designs into projects. love all your work and thanks for sharing.

  • first off, i would like to say you rock my socks off!!! but i was wondering why, when you are purling, you just transfer the first loop on to the right needle without doing anything with it?

  • Hello, Congratulations. Is wonderful!!! God bless you!.

My name is Silvia - from Medellin -Colombia. Tank you.

  • thank you. glad to hear from someone so far away.

  • you knit like I did before I learned to hold both the yarns at the same time, you can either hold one in the left and one in the right, both in the left (like I do) or both in the right - and you just flick over the one you need, It made my knitting easier and fasterd.

  • there is a way you can do that called two fisted fair isle (i think) what you do is hold your main color in your right hand n your contrasting color in your left

  • I have been trying to understand the whole technique by reading about it, but it just helps to see it being done! Thank you!
