he's dressed up to look that way. It's his character. It seems as though he's been made to look older than Stephen Fry's character even though they are the same age in reality
I agree with TDWPfan94! I really think it is only the weight gain that makes the difference, and otherwise he'd look pretty good for the age of 50! And of course he's also in Snell-guise here, so he's rather more dishevelled than normal.
It doesn't matter anyway - it's just so good to see him stable and working (and, I hope, happy). Tony has made me laugh so hard and so many times, I'll always love him. ^ ^
I would like to revise what my other comment said! After watching this for the 2 time in a row, I'm starting to realize Tony doesn't look that different... His hair is grey and he's gained some wight, but he still looks like the Tony I first saw him as and he still looks great! His laugh still makes me smile and laugh along and he still has that very lovable quality to him! ^_^
I don't care what anyone thinks, I still think he looks amazing and he is amazing. I only really watch this show for him. Plus, his appearance is not even important anyway, he's still as talented as he was to begin with and he always will be whether people dislike his appearance or not. I'm just so happy to see him on television again after everything he's been through. He's a breathe of fresh air! =]

He looks absolutely awful . . . Looked so much better at Whose Line, but on the other hand, can't judge him, cause he's only a human, like the rest of us....
Yes, i agree, it is unfair 2 judge how Tony looks from this video as it is during the time of filming episodes of Kingdom. Tony looks completely normal when he is just being himself (such as the Grumpy old Men clip) although i think the comments below suggest he looks rather dishevelled as his character, which of course he is meant 2, but also that he has put on rather alot of weight 2- which is likely a requirement of playing such a character, which the people below probably forgot 2 consider.
It is unfair to judge Tony Slattery on how he looks in this video - since it was shot during filming of Kingdom in which he plays Sidney Snell - the greasy haired, unshaven eccentric. He actually looks very well - see the recent clips from Grumpy Old Men
I can't seem to watch this, every time i've attempted to it freezes, then continues, then freezes again, it's quite annoying- sorry, but i don't know whether the problem lies with my computer (which i doubt) or the quality of the video....
Thanks. I'm guessing late 2006/7. Tony Slattery seems like a different person now than he was 10 years ago, but maybe that's a good thing considering how miserable he was in the late 90's. He seems a bit calmer, and less wacky.
He does mention spending 9 months combined filming for Kingdom, so it must be after completing filming of series 2 (autumn '07). My guess is spring '08.

Given all the trauma he's been through, Tony Slattery appears to be doing very well for himself. <3

I think although it is unfair to JUDGE Tony Slattery... he is only human, like the rest of us.
I dont think that he put on weight for the part in Kingdom, i think he had already began to yo-yo abit with his weight years ago.
People should never compare how he looks now with how he looked 20 odd years ago and judge him for it.
He did go through alot with himself, to get to where and who he is now.
Thats just my opinion.
Peoples looks change, all the time.

You're right he does look very different!
To be honest he looks quite awful actually, i'm sad and sorry about it too!
Urmmm... yeah he was quite the looker back in the day, but hey what do looks matter when you've been through so much and come out the other side?
:0)

You do have to remember that he is 50 years old here. Back then he was in his late 20's / early 30's

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing recently. It not long since it first aired on ITV.
