Saw this film in the theatre decades ago. It still remains as one of the most romantic and bittersweet films of all time. The music just adds to it, so romantic!
My favorite part (in Portuguese) is "é branco demais na poesia e é negro demais no coração"....simply beautiful! First time I listen to it in French; I like it!
The Camarque area of the south of France where the outdoor scenes were filmed is worth a visit. Flamingos, White Horses, Black Bulls, Wetlands and the Coast to the south
The soundtrack to this film was in print on CD at one time, but it was pretty short-lived. It went out of print. And that was that. It was a CD with two soundtracks on it. Un Homme et Une Femme and Live For Life, the other Francis Lai soundtrack. But good luck finding it! It was sometime in the 1990's. Probably more easily found on vinyl I would think. I'd love to own the film on DVD.
How odd. It's a French film and it's hard to find there. Here, in the States, they play this quite a bit. What is hard to find here is vivre pour vivre. That's another Lelouch film from the same period. Tu me comprends?
Pois fica maravilhoso nessa epoca.
This was one of the great films of the 60's. Great story, beautiful cinema values, great music--it has everything! I prefer it in French. I bought both versions of the record when they came out, however. Not available on cd for some reason? A pity.
How I love this film completely...Exquisite music... unperishable. I feel he same excitement that I had when I first saw the film, exactly on March 3rd, 1966. Really.
I can't believe that my husband just called this movie 'passe!' And he's a French speaker and lived in Paris for a good number of years! He has turned into an old man!!
Send your husband back to France to get re-trained... this is a great "man movie"... I don't know what was more beautiful... the soft purr of Anouk Aimée or the roar of the Ford GTO. That should excite any man. And the Ford Mustang racing thru the Monte Carlo rally is one of my top car movie scenes... that was a bit of Monte Carlo history.. when the Cooper was kicked out for the Mustang. Man movie all the way.
Fantastic... so perfect... I must save this. I came back from 3 years in the Army in France... they pulled out of nato.. we were kicked out of France (I don't blame them)... when I left, I was in love with all things french, the women, the moods, the weather (much like Seattle, my home)... and I found this movie... I took everyone to see it.... I must of went 24 or more times... if you loved the movie... you know what's in my soul. Thank you... to whomever posted this clip.

This is wonderful. It is also a note-for-note repro of the Brazilian original. One of those very rare times when a copy is as good as the first. If you like this, check Vinicius de Moraes. You are in for a treat.
This movie and soundtrack could not have been more perfect for each other.I saw the movie in my teens and left a lasting impression on me,thank yo for sharing it with us
I have been trying to find the French lyrics to this samba for many years. This exquisite and sumptuous song brings back REMEMBERANCE OF THINGS PAST. MERCI !! MERCI!!!

En cherchant ses racines vagabondes;

C'est un vin qui ne donne pas l'ivresse;

This song was written specially for the movie.
When Vinicius de Moraes arrived in Cannes, Claude Lellouch said he had a "surprise" for him.
When Vinicius saw the movie, he asked: "So this is the surprise?" You steal my song and say this is a surprise?
