Here's a funny idea----wear a helmet or hat with the pop filter attached out in front of hat/helmet with stiff wire,etc.----ha ha------when you're singing the pop filt will be always in front of your mouth when you need it
"Cutting up pantyhose in your bedroom is normally weird." hahaha at least there isnt a leg inside...and I guess it would be much weirder if it wasnt YOUR bedrrom
i havent tried this but instead of buying pantyhose if you have a mom or wife that goes to places like dsw shoes or payless they have these like socks kinda that are like pantyhose and i think the same material, when next my mom goes there i will take one and on the plus side they are free
I think there's a cheaper and easier method than this and dare I say it- a better looking one too.
Go to the kitchen stuff department of your supermarket and buy a metal splatter guard (used to cover frying pans etc to prevent hot splashes of fat. Costs around 2.99 for set of two here in the UK) I bent the metal handle in two places so that it fitted on to the mic stand and screwed tightly on to it.
Job done-looks good is strong works well with no rattles etc.
@magpiejefe Sounds like it could work. You should do a video showing how to do this method. I'm still using my same pop screen today, so I'm still happy with mine. But I'm sure there are people who could benefit from a stronger, better-looking method. Thanks for the comment!
@ItsKnucklez Good luck finding a pop screen for $5. Cheapest and crappiest ones are typically around $15, and they're lesser quality than these homemade ones, believe me.
Two layers works well, yes. Any more than that, though, and your voice will be too quiet to be picked up well by the mic. I have experimented a bit with this, but feel free to try different methods and let me know what worked and what didn't for you! Thanks. =)
Y'know, I'm not really sure. I know the windscreen is intended to block out white-noise, specifically while recording outdoors, but I'm not sure on how it deals with popping noises. This method is cheap enough that you could try it out and see how it works for you. Hope that helps!
I'm glad you got some use out of it. At the time, I was using a Logitech USB mic. I use a Blue Snowball Mic now, and I highly recommend it for just about recording you need to do.
thats not a bad idea to rubber band it. Thats a great idea; ever since i watched your video; thats what i do. haha, i rubber band it... keeps me from holding it, and when i sing, its not tiring! :) thanks.

is it better to have two layers or pantyhose?
natalie501 11 months ago
@natalie501 One is sufficient, but two is fine as well. Too many layers though, and you'll some some of the clarity, or the "punch" of your voice.
