I hate the way the Latino media and many liberals are portraying immigration reform. They paint those who support laws like the one Arizona has passed as anti-immigrant. The law applies to all those here illegally, whether they are from Canada, El Salvador, Poland, or Morroco. Its time for both sides to come to an understanding of both sides and come up with some sort of a fair compromise, but the opinion of Americans should prevail over non-citizen opinion.
This guy is an imbecile. Under no stretch of the imagination can one be stopped "just for being Hispanic" under the new AZ law. He clearly doesn't have a clue as to what constitutes "Reasonable Suspicion."
THE BILL STATES you must be doing something wrong before they check a persons status. They will not target a person who has done nothing wrong American or Mexican. So unless an illegal aliens is walking a dog with a bag of cocaine hanging out of its butt he will not be bothered. Plain and simple the fedral law already exists. If you dont like it then we must rewrite the law but untill the law is changed we must follow the laws currently in place. Wich is opposite of what the feds are doing
@4skin As an attorney I can assure, I have been pulled over many times under the pretense of breaking the law...Speak frankly with law enforcement and they will tell you they can pretty much find a myriad of traffic infractions when they follow you...Similarly, in Federal Court there is an old expression which says the Feds can indicte a ham sandwich if they so desire...Criminal law and its accompanying Constitutional amendments evolved out of the State's abuse ...
@4skin Exactly...Probable cause is a catch all used to circumvent civil rights which has resulted in Miranda and its progeny. While I agree with you the laws must be enforced, we must also not be hypocritical about the purpose of this statute. While in many ways it attempts to reinforce the jurisdiction of the Federal Government its main purpose is to target hispanics.
@4skin If the main culprits were German or Irish immigrants perpetrating the same crimes, there would be a larger outcry within the white community if the police were given broader powers to make Terry stops of all caucasians. I'm in agreement however with one aspect of the statute: culpability of employers is finally addressed. If illegal immigration were truly a concern in this country the GOP and Dems could end it tomorrow - $10,000 fine per employer per wrkr per day worked.
