  • I would never run in a direction I'm not looking with a gun, or back up as some people do. Too many things can go wrong, although whatever you think is natural to you might work, it's really your decision. Unlike all the online experts were not up against commandos in convenience and grocery stores at night. They are mostly sideways-shooting-hooded morons, I think I'll just crouch, square off, zipper up the middle. I wont need to run and they will drop like a tater sack.

  • there is a million different types of techniques some might not be as good as others but wouldn't you wanna know all of them so you can adapt to any situation?

  • All this debate over the video is kinda pointless. This technique will win some gunfights but not all. It's impossible to discuss what is a viable combat tactic without generalizing and thereby weakening your argument. All combatants, spaces and fights are not equal so the best you can do is find a tactic that you can employ enough in training to carry out without thought under extreme duress.

  • Wow I can't believe some people are actually questioning this method. This isn't some dumb action movie where the gun toting hero stands still while the bad guys conveniently fall over for him.

  • fascistoidi

  • "Why don't you just run for cover, why are you backing up, you'll trip." The BG is 3ft away and he's drawing/just drew a weapon... no cover. Under that VERY likely circumstance I wouldn't turn my back. No you sure as hell can't out run a bullet going backwards. But he's NOT just going back, he's getting out of the line of attack moving laterally (out the path of gun's muzzle, the direction a knife wielding maniac is facing). 3/9:00 are easier he just demonstrated the more difficult movement.

  • I quick hard crack to the head of the BG before you start moving can help too...

  • Or give him something to grab on to, take you to ground, disarm you and kill you with your own weapon. If the target requires deadly force give it that, anything else and you may regret it, if you live.

  • Well the person in the video did give the person something to grab. The gun! He should start firing from the hip until he makes enough space to full extend his arm.

  • I think this sort of shooting is needed. I've ALWAYS thought the "standard" tactics were unrealistic.

But I wonder: Instead of running and shooting, might it be better just to RUN (for cover, then shoot)! Hitting someone running is difficult because of the inherent "herky-jerky" motion of running. To SHOOT and run, you have to take that motion OUT--and so you're an easier target. Also, realistically, if you were just RUNNING, the shooter might be a lot less interested in shooting at you!

  • thats not dynamic

  • hes backing up alryt, but to the 5 o'clock position which makes much harder for the assailant to aim to especially when your letting out loads of lead with huge bang... but its important to put more emphasis on the shot placements for this kind of tactic to be effective

  • lol.some people train for living, while others just sit back, say bad stuff, and think there a bad ass, when in real life there nothing but an arm chair warrior that thinks an old fashioned ok corral fase to fase shootout happens in real life.

    Good shooting Sweatinbullets!

  • ,Using cover is essential But if you dont have it. Shooting the other man and making him take 1-2 seconds to adjust to hit you in closerange weapons work that might as well be a weekend, Equals Shots on your opponent first, and that is a great way to start and you have a good chance to "stop" him and your moving your harder to hit period.then get some cover ad infinitum, everyone trains for what to do after the first few seconds(which is probably when you will be killed..?)!

  • typical of an old scholl lets slug it out...

move shoot and increase your distance. get off the line of attack

  • That is some very old school thinking right there. There is a real advancement of the art going on right now and FOF has proved that standing and delivering is a death sentence when you are behind in the reactionary curve. Come over the Warrior Talk forums and you will see how behind in the times that you are.

  • Amen brother!

  • In that hypothetical situation, I would plant my feet (as well as I could under stress) and shoot. Are you saying that backing up has any advantage over an assailant armed with a gun? You're not going to back up far enough to be out of range, in the meantime you're setting yourself up to trip and get capped in the head.

  • I'm not pretending to be an expert here, but what's the point of this? Why would you run away from your opponent? And whoops, you just tripped and got shot in the head because you can't see where you're going.

  • The point is to learn to shoot while moving in every direction. This video is for the guys over at Warrior Talk that are busy advancing the art, not for a bunch of neophytes. Sometimes you have to retreat. Would you move forward if it was eight gang bangers against you?

  • Well said, after you destroy one gang member by yourself, the others will tend to do the opposite in order to preserve their lives.

For all those saying that you will trip then "magically" get shot in the head, you are forgetting that most people who handle a gun under duress cannot fire and hit at pointblank ranges unless they have prior conditioning/training.

This method in the video greatly increases the chance of survival in a situation with no cover.

  • @sweatnbullets It is also useful when others are shooting at you, the first thing I thought when I saw this clip was counter-strike. This would be useful in a terrorist situation where your opponent is armed as well

  • Maybe it's due to the fact that you want to aquire as much distance between you & your enemy & then if need be tactically re-engage him on your terms.
