what a load of rubbish. i liken today's science to a child using a circular saw.
if anything, what the history of science has taught us is that we are wrong.
"four fundemental laws of the universe, strong and weak nuclear force, electromagnetism and gravity" - didnt the acient greeks believe it was "earth, wind, water and fire"? not much has changed really.
@johnnytheprick "'four fundemental laws of the universe, strong and weak nuclear force, electromagnetism and gravity' - didnt the acient greeks believe it was 'earth, wind, water and fire'? not much has changed really."
Seriously? Even by youtube's standards this is a really stupid comment.
like i said, nothing much has changed. in another 100 years, we'll have another 4 fundemental laws of nature. have you studied the history of science?
@johnnytheprick A lot has changed. You wouldn't be able to stream this video on your computer or type your silly comments if our understanding of the forces of nature were still based on Aristotelian physics.
@johnnytheprick It's not the number "4" that matters, it's how we understand the universe. With all due respect to Aristotle, you can't compare the Greek understanding of the universe with our current understanding. The Sun does not rotate around the Earth, matter is not infinitely divisible and light exhibits a dual behavior. You simply can't explain these phenomena accurately using the Greek ideas. In another 100 years we may have 4 other forces but our understanding would be much better.
its moments like these and comments like yours that make me want to build a time machine........not possible with our current understanding of the universe? perhaps we did get it, have got it, and ALWAYS will, get it wrong.
to quote a wise man: "those who dont learn from the past, are bound to repeat it."
@johnnytheprick '"four fundemental laws of the universe, strong and weak nuclear force, electromagnetism and gravity" - didnt the acient greeks believe it was "earth, wind, water and fire"? not much has changed really.'
like soooooooo many others before, youre the ignorant one. in 400 hundred years, what do you think theyll be saying about our current understanding of the universe? why is it that every generation believes it has the "answers"? afterall, it was only 50 years ago that it was believed that NOTHING can travel faster than light and that the atomic structure was "to our understanding"........
@johnnytheprick They'll likely say that we didn't (yet) have the details of the big picture, but that we did understand most of the fundamental laws. Your analogy b/t the four fundamental forces and the four "elements" described by the ancients simply doesn't make sense.
> it was only 50 years ago that it was believed that NOTHING can travel faster than light
Not exactly true. Nothing that carries information nor anything with mass can exceed C. That hasn't changed.
you either study science or, like me, try to understand the nature of most things. my bet is youre studying maths/science/physics. i come across the likes of your mindset often.
as for (quoting me): "it was only 50 years ago that it was believed that NOTHING can travel faster than light"- i stand corrected. he said/wrote, that nothing can accelerate to the speed of light. where you got "nothing carries information........"
"Nothing that carries information nor anything with mass can exceed C. That hasn't changed." - have you tried to prove otherwise? blind faith is not the scientific way, perhaps being a best seller is.
I gave it a thumbs up, but I was disappointed she doesn't seem as flirtatious or as nice in this, as when she was younger and would always say "Hello", I miss that.

Uh, here's a clue: Studying science IS trying to understand the nature of things.

It is a fundamental tenant of both SRT and GRT.

Personally? no. No need to. It's tested on a daily basis in particle accelerators all over the world,
