@rockleeno1 Morning Musume was originally formed in 1997, through nationally televised open auditions (much like "Making the Band"). It quickly became a phenomenon, and to keep things going, the management decided to hold more auditions for more members. At the same time, some members decided to leave the group for various reasons.

With members periodically joining and leaving like this, it became part of the group's schtick. To date, they've had a total of 29 members over nine "generations."

I think it would be really hard to be Risa-san or Ai-san because the people who they grew up with keeping leaving. They have seen more generations come and go than anyone.

Some form new groups, some go solo, some jump to other agencies, some go back to school, some start families, some "retire" due to scandal, some get tired of the business, some are let go because they're not popular enough to keep on the payroll, and some just fade from public view without any official end.

The best analogy is a sports team. The roster changes every year, but the team keeps going.

First Gen Abe- Solo. Third Gen Goto Maki- Solo. Fourth Gen Ai and Nozomi- Formed their own unit. Fourth Gen Ishikawa Rika- Joined another unit. Fifth Gen Konno- Went to college. Etc.

@girligirlie well, this group is allways adding new members, but also some members are leaving, mostly beacouse they gona start a new carriere by their own, ofcourse this is a good thing for them, but you got to understend, they spend more time with eachother than their own familys, so they get to close between, and is hard to stop seeing some one you have been with for many years, thats is why they cry, and is why we cry to T_T

not all the time. only maki goto, abe natsumi, iida kaori, and yuko nakazawa (first and last names are not in a specific order) became soloists in H!P after their graduation, and I think only Maki Goto, Ai Kago, and Yaguchi Mari are still soloists out of Hello! Project.

some graduated members continued school, some became part of another band. A couple of them even got married or have boyfriends...

Not literally, no. It's just a way to commemorate when members leave the group. It's more dramatic than simply announcing the changes, and both the members and the fans seem to enjoy it.

It's also an opportunity to sell more tickets and merchandise, since graduation concerts tend to be much larger than usual.

Morning Musume isn't the first or last idol group to do this. Onyanko Club did it first in the '80s, and other modern groups like AKB48 do it as well. It's just part of the idol world.
