  • Love you Oprah :)

  • she should have said, "Also, the cars wouldn't have fit under all your seats."

  • c/o of 2008 Stanford is so lucky!

  • I remember when she spoke @ Connecticut

    Inspirational

  • And you get a diploma! and You get a diploma, and You and you and you!

  • that speech was sublime

  • Daniel Pink!!! yesss i love this

  • can you explain this to me??

  • Global media leader. LOL She is a non-factor in Europe

  • Wow, if I had known failure is a life's way of saying to change course before.. that would've saved me a lot of thinking :) But eventually I've changed course and I think I'm going to be happy!

  • Oprah used to have cred way back , she was about changing systems, now it's celebs and other bullshit, changing yourself to cope within the systems, a total reversal.

  • Love the reaction of the girl at 17:24 :D

  • Steve 1 Oprah 0

  • Fantastic commencement address! Well done Oprah!

  • Oprah always manages to make it about her. You'd think with her level of success she'd move beyond it.

  • @hortonwho22 most commencement speeches are also about the speakers background and the lessons they've learned which have brought them success. she is sharing valuable life lessons with these students.

  • After watching Steve Jobs commencement address; Oprah's opening speech was so boring! Who cares about her God Child?

  • @Vivamamaafrika This isn't a competition. I'm going to watch Jobs' one in a minute, but Oprah's really spoke to me. I found it very enlightening and wise. You can tell she's been there and seen it.

  • This was a very encouraging video for me!!!!!

  • What did Oprah do that was inspiring. I'm confused.

  • life is now.

  • How to High Five Oprah like a boss

  • After watching Steve Job's inspirational 2005 speech in comparison to the first 5 minutes of Oprah is really awkward. She has become so self-centered as seen in her rant about who she knows. It is Standford's graduates TIME not OPRAH's.

  • Oprah is so amazing. I love her way of life!

  • oprah can pull anything off love that woman !

  • what kind of wisdom? maybe she's experienced... well as for me the speech from the beginning was kind of "showman product". I listen to it during my classes before and I thought she was just a simple human being. here with the video I see her as a showman. though while listening I noticed that she started talking about kind of interesting things. well.. her experience but the picture gives us that it worth being yourself. however, I don't agree that your emotions are always your GPS...

  • If I was graduating ide probs be wondering why oprah kept talking about the acheivments of one kid :P

  • In America, we don't need re-education camps. We have a bullshit-promoting educational system, we are stupid enough to believe our politicians. And we have sports to keep our minds occupied

  • how did she get into television?

  • SHe's so funny! an AMAZING speaker!!!

  • So wise and so humble...

  • I love that girl texting 3:37.

  • @FluXez00 couldn't agree more

  • Why is it that we think so much alike....

  • too self absorbed. this is about what wise words you can offer to the crowd, not a speech about oprah, about oprah's god child, her bff. She should have taken this more seriously.

  • i don't see how oprah can be inspiring to anyone with an IQ of over 50.

  • @JohnF30Music pretty proud of your IQ of 51, aren't you?

  • Oprah Favourite Things on my Channel...:)

  • Oprah, She So strong So power and So Beautiful mind for everybody...i like you so much. you make Commitment to success and happiness. Thank you... Oprah Winfrey

  • This was very dull and boring. To be honest it sounds like Oprah preaching a load of nonsense about growing as a person in stupid 'life-changing jargon'

  • great speech! everybody's asian though lol

  • thank You Creator!

  • An awesome speech, indeed. Absolutely empowering.

  • Thanks this is just what I needed at this very moment.

  • So inspiring!

  • @FluXez00 Thats because you didn't get past the one minute. You poor a minute man...

  • that was really bad... I kinda' expected better from Oprah :|

  • One of My favorite Human being

  • i've just wasted my time watching oprah's speech... people! Watch Steve jobs' speech!!!

  • kinda boring and a bit too self appreciating

  • i love you oprah..i like your speech ...super nice

  • This only confirms Ms. Winfrey's status as the most influential woman in America. One of the best speeches I've heard showing this woman's tremendous self-awareness and profundity.

  • It's like watching her talkshow.. If I were Kirby, I'd be like: " c'mon, it's not about me, go on with the rest of the story" ...

Hm.. I usually like her but right now, I don't know if I like the speach or not..

  • Steve Jobs had a far better speech.

  • All Hail Oprah!

  • Okrah is my heroin.

  • O.K.

    Oprah gave speech at Stanford.

    Obama gave speech at ASU.

    does anyone see irony here?

  • i had really learned from here.. she is the best..

  • Wow, she's so amazing and I like her speech very much.

  • boring

  • I will keep this commencement address for good , I think it actually helped me a lot.

Especially, I got stock with my MBA program. I thought I gonna finish this semester first and travel alone to meet different people. I thought live ar the present and find the joy of your life matters more than getting that dipoma on time.

  • @FluXez00 your loss it was actually amazing

  • dazzling

  • wow amazing

  • im so glad im not kirby over there at that moment

  • "Incrediable! Beautiful soul and heart, do be used in service for the greater good"! Wow! she has changed the world for the better.

Quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, "Not everybody can be famous, but everybody can be great because greatness can be determined by service"...." You only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love". Sharing to gifts to all graduates: Eckhart Toole's - 'Our New Earth and Daniel Pink's 'A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will rule The World.

  • q palabras tan emotivas e inspiradoras q ella dice, hace que tu reflexiones y pienses sobre errores q pueden ser facilmente solucionados, que chevere persona es ella, es una entre un millon

  • wao.........i feel as if i know her values..thanks for sharing

  • Simplicity of life's truths remind us of the core essence of human existence. Simple but meaningful

  • I actually watched the whole thing.

  • this is the first video i saw about Oprah, and i think i understand why she so famous.

    i love her

just from this video, i find that something has in my mind for so many years has been assure by Oprah. isn't it great minds alike?

from now on, i gonna watch more video about her

    "become more of yourself"

    give, gian, happy......

    so good

it just feels right watching this video

  • @nicole1007n i totally agree! :) she has a lot of wisdom! i loved watching her very final episode of her tv show also... it was really good to watch.

  • Loved her speech, found answers to many questions I had for a long time. What an inspiration she is!

  • I learned alot about myself from this speech. Thank you Oprah, yeah I like that name better than Suzie..lol

  • It's not about who can give an excellent speech but it's who can give a speech worth listening to. Oprah probably didn't give the best speech many of us have or will heard/hear but she give one that was worth listening to. Putting her personal twist on it sharing quotes, and real life experiences to students who was about to enter the working world. She is one of the very few celebrities who give back so willingly and finds true happiness not by what she has but by helping others.

  • inspired!

  • I so love Oprah!

  • " to be happy you have to give back " .. couldn't agree more, :) awesome speech Oprah!

  • Oprah is great . She has a lot to share. gain. JK Rowlings talk is great too.Lisa Kudrow is a really really good story about life and hardship and faith in self and vocation.Hear them!

  • @lovesGenet The JK Rowling one is amazing- it brought me to tears, and also allowed me to cheer at my computer screen.

  • would have been great if she gave them all cars

  • @matling

The content of a good book is more valuble than any car!

  • @matling Most of these people don't need to be given a car. Most could probably give help to someone else less fortunate.

  • i like oprah and her genies but i find the Steve Job's speech is better and more to the reality.

  • I graduate from high school from developing country but always follow the news of Oprah Winfrey and like to know the least her news best regarding for her

  • I'm going to Stanford :)

  • Nice.

  • Oprah talked extensively about Barbara Walters also.

  • Big Fan of Oprah. I think its very cool someone finally wrote this book. "You Have A College Degree, Now What?" was released last month. Spotted it on Amazon.

  • What an inspiring speech this is. I agree wholeheartedly with what she said about happiness because in my experience living in the moment and giving back has certainly contributed greatly to my sense of purpose and fulfilment in life.

  • 2 words. Quit Hatin'!

  • That was an awesome speech. Thank you for your wisdom... <3

  • practical, inspiration and moving

  • J.K. Rowling's Harvard Commencement Address 2008 is way better.

  • i've never been a fan of Oprah's, lets' just say im not her demo....but i found this to be very inspiring.

  • No wonder Oprah's speech only has 417666 views while Steve Jobs has over 1.8 million. This speech doesn't hit the heart as much as Jobs' did.

  • @SPMNDK89 why can't you just say "watch Jobs speech" like maraianazhovnirenko did? btw - her speech has been up for how long? and Jobs has been up for how long?

  • I really like the way she speak

  • Hey, she is very stupid, I dint think she is this stupid! And she is a celebrity?!

  • @in11560 LOL

  • wtf is up with kirby? who cares about her? not me! this is the worst commencement speech i've ever heard!

  • excellent work!

  • Listen to the Jobs Speech there in 2005

  • even i didnt understand why was kirby given so much importance. i mean oprah is here to talk about her life experiences and stanford and its principles.. and not her god-daughter

  • @imaMACfanatic Because when you are as big as Oprah, there are some social senses which are lost. In this case, she thinks that it's okay to talk about her friends in a self absorbed way that is not compatible with the situation. If she mentioned this in a 1 on 1 conversation it would be fine. She's used to talking about personal things that have no value on her talk show in which she speaks to millions, I'm sure its the same mechanism at work here. The rest of her speech was pretty good imo.

  • This wonderful and generous spirit called Oprah supports Bill Gates who wants to reduce the black population of Africa through abortion and sterilising vaccination GIRLLLLLL FRIENDDDD!!

  • i personally have issues with her speaking at stanford university and especially when she had exhibited some unappealing behavior in the past or when she has dealt with some people who are just a bunch of phony star seeking celebrities trying to steal needed attentions.

  • Are people really complaining about her talking about Kirby. Kirby is like her child. She's her god daughter and the daughter of Oprah's best friend. The whole reason Stanford was even able to GET Oprah there was BECAUSE of Kirby. So why shouldn't she mention her. She was the reason Oprah came, and she is Oprah's god-daughter. And since Oprah has no children, she's practically her child. More importantly of 29 minutes, she only talked about her for three lol. Relax. It was a good speech.

  • @BreezyGraffiti I know right. It was a great speech, people just wanna peck away at someone until there's nothing left. If it was Bill Clinton talking about his daughter Chelsea nobody would have cared, it's just because it's Oprah. It was a very thought provoking speech, I'm inspired each time I hear it and I learn something new each time.

  • what a terrible role model, worshiping money...

  • love her makeup

    (how shallow of me)

  • Kind of boring...

  • "global media leader" haha

  • She means that just because you graduated from Stanford doesn't mean you will be success

  • love u oprah.........simply awesome...............hope i was there........i would have taken admission in stanfords had i known u will be the commencement speaker.......lolzzzzzz

  • love ya oprah..........great inspiration for everyone in this world......

  • I personally don't care if she talked about Kirby that much because I don't live in a perfect world where celebrities don't get extra recognition. I am a huuuuge fan of Oprah because of her wonderful and generous spirit and would have been honored just to have her share her wisdom with me.

  • your dumb

  • @woah455 she is amazing

  • she has done more 4 bw than anyone else

  • I am a sixty year old U.S.C., U.C.L.A. graduate. I listen to this speech often and I learn something new from one of the most successful black women in history. I remember from my speech classes before many of you were born, the first part of a speech is to get peoples attention, usually with comedy. It is appropiate to focus on Kirby because she is a 2008 Standford graduate and Oprah godchild. I find what Oprah said relative funny. I mean "sort of."

Who just "sort of" know Oprah

  • @alz123alz~ I thought this speech & its delivery was just great too!

Oprah, showed a really friendly, down to earth self.. I would have liked her even if she wasn't Oprah!! Based on this straight-forward speech!!

I found myself listening very carefully to every word & loved the fact that she related to her God-daughter!! I mean how many people still have godparents around?

Oprah, was sooo happy to be able to visit her on her graduation day and really went for it!! Nice one..

  • @alz123alz what do you mean "sort off" i graduated in 2007 AND SO???? are you giving a back handed complement if so.... Please take it back and appreciate Oprah is an inspiration to all regardless of colour!

  • Kirby got a beat down after all this nonsense.

  • The commencement was about all of those graduating? or was it about Kirby? Why do people idolize so much actors, tv personalities? Perhaps the wisdom gained from those who move society forward is not valued. We value where the money is , money thrown in the direction of our own entertainment.

  • in reality she is a glorified talk show host Nothing More

  • YOUR JUST JEALOUS BECAUSE YOU ARE WORTHLESS LOL - She's accomplished more than your mediocre ass ever could

  • I would have walked out of this joke if this were my graduation.

  • purduedude10~ Shows how shallow you are then!!

  • u suck!!! She the richest woman in the world and DON'T CARE WHAT U Prejudice people think!!!!! She is changing the world, u only change your clothes..lol

  • i didn't really like it that she talked so much about kirby..kind of awkward no?

  • i agree

  • @winkiiV~ You probabley don't have a good-daughter that your proud of yet!! This God-daughter is like her own child!! Who else is she going to brag on?

Nothing wrong with what she did!!

  • I agree with woah455 - who care's what she did I would have more admiration for what research she gave back to Stanford or how high her GPA was. How superficial.

  • @rokyourbody She mentions Kirby to show she has a personal connection with the graduates , to show this isn't just a throw away speech , that it means something to her , it was entirely relevant to open the speech that way.

  • She is the best

  • yeah she is

  • Kirby is so freaking lucky!

  • she is awesome!

  • Very inspirational speech

  • She is enlightening. I did not have the same type of guidance as Oprah but everything is coming into everything. I am en route to being the next millionaire. Thanks for sharing your wisdom O....!

  • 14:00 When you work in the right job it just feels right. Feelings are our GPS.

  • omg i was there! my cousin was graduatng! it was such a cool time and i want to go to stanford university like her. she inspires me like oprah does to others. my cousin was on tv for being the only person from her school to go to Stanford. go hispanic pride!

  • She is really a wonderful person with excellent sense of sharing right things.

Caring person with excellent sense of humour.

  • I just want to say that I really enjoyed Oprah's speech.

  • Winfrey is a sexist bigot who should be held accountable for supporting and helping a racist communist to get in the White House. She is a JOKE!

  • Do you even know what communism is, I thought they stopped making films on communism long ago! :P i mean off course your main source of information..

  • Good speech but far from the incredible speech of Steve Jobs in 2005. That was really GREAT

  • Oprah is a wonderful person who has done well in her life and is amazing at caring for others .Bravo ..Helping others do help ourselves ..Its great she does it from the heart

  • i was overwherming by her adress.

i think she is a queen of the mass media.

    i always support you. ophra.

thank you for your a great adress.!

  • Dyslexic?

  • who is this woman ?

  • Most of the signficant contributions in science and medicine have been made by black people.

  • I hope thats a joke

  • Great lessons that will never be taught in the classroom and if remembered and practiced, it will save these people lots of time and grief.

  • its not a g8 speech though but the last 3 minutes was good the rest was like a story

  • If I remember correctly from forty years ago when I studied speech, the first part of a speech is to get peoples attention. Its appropriate to talk about Curby since she is a graduate of the class 2008.

OPRAH business is talking, although how elegant. Have you notice that most commencement speakers are wealthy and heavy philantropists. Its expensive to attend Stanford, however , Oprah probably have made contributions to help maintain the status of that University.

  • I think it was good speak but you talked a lot about curby

  • The purpose of a commencemennt speech is to impart knowledge to graduates of one"s personal challenges of becoming sucessful in life. If you listen to Steve Job commencement speech , which I enjoyed, he talks about his life from birtth to present. If you are talking about your successful life, the only pronoun you can use is "I". Be Open To The Lessons

  • Oprah working on stanford? or is she a student loL?

  • She could NOT pass the ASTs man!

  • Learn to learn from other successful people.

  • What kind of speech is that? Very disorganized like the religion she is spreading.

  • Excellent speech.

  • show some damn respect.

  • i didnt want to see that whole speech.. because Steve Job´s speech was on a so much higher level than this.

I stopped about 4 minutes into this speech and everything i got out if it was seeing her braggin about how everybody wants to know her.

"ooh my god do you know Oprah Winfrey?"

    fucking crap.

    for gods sake.

  • And then she shut up about her Goddaughter and gave the speech

  • "Graduates, look under your seats...!"

  • I really enjoyed that speech.

  • pure crap too long 30 minutes of me myself and I.

  • beautiful! her speech was from the heart !

  • I was kind of surprised her speech wasn't better organized. It was very interesting, but I think would have been much better short and sweet, no more than 10-15 minutes, with a clear theme. I kind of got the impression she was speaking extemporaneously for a lot of it. She is the most successful woman in the world, and a great communicator, so when she talks, people listen. I thought her advice was very good. Stanford was very lucky to have her as their guest speaker.

  • what a wanka just cus u "sorta" know Oprah doesnt mean u r so good

  • Oprah has nothing interesting to say. And who cares about Kirby? Just another priviledged black.

  • If you get past the first 5 minutes, she is actually pretty interesting. I don't care about Kirby per se, but if you think about it, everyone who gets to go to Stanford is privileged, and talented, and smart. We all know, many people who are very talented and smart don't get to go to the best universities. That's life. Still, others like Oprah never got to go to Stanford either, and look what she did with her life. I think she did very well.

  • She really needs graduation....:-O

  • What a nutjob to pick. This lady has no idea what logic or reason mean and they pick her???

  • Anyone read the scathing newsweek article about Oprah?
